I remember seeing the trailer for this film when it was a preview during I think something Marvel oriented. I rolled my eyes when it appeared as though it was going to be a Social-Justice-Warrior, girl power, shitshow.
I did not go see it in theaters for that reason... well, that and the fact that I feel as though all of these things are pretty much the same and we are witnessing the slow death of the franchise. The movie did make back it's budget, but after marketing it might have just barely made anything at all. I would be surprised if they make another one.
The plot involves the life of "Molly" (played by Tessa Thompson) who after meeting an alien and seeing the Men in Black wipe the memory of her parents goes on a life-long quest to become a member of the secret organization.
This part of the film is actually pretty good as it shows MIB from the perspective of someone who is aware aliens and MIB exist, but also how well they cover their tracks to remain unknown to the civilian population.
She of course eventually becomes an agent and becomes known as "M." She gets paired up with agent "H" (Chris Hemsworth) who is a highly-regarded agent that seems to not care a great deal about protocol. Their mission inadvertently has them encounter what I consider to be the coolest baddies the franchise has ever seen.
Known simply as the "Twins" (played by real-life twins Laurent and Larry Bourgeois) these shape-shifters have a really evil appeal that many of the other cartoonish characters of the series haven't really contained. Whatever, i thought it was awesome.
But basically this movie just follows the usual MIB path of having some cutesy beings, so gross ones, and of course a bunch of great technology to show off with CGI. The story is the same as it always is... some alien wants to destroy the world for some reason and its up to the agents to stop it all at the last minute just like they have done in all the MIB's leading up to this one.
from the official [Sony Pictures](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz97F7dMxBNOfGYu3rx8aCw) channelI honestly would have never seen this if it hadn't popped up on Netflix and I certainly wouldn't have paid money to see it in theaters. The global markets have responded in a similar fashion, voting with the general absence of their wallets as this is the first MIB film to NOT make at least $100 million. Perhaps it was the absence of Will Smith. I don't know, nor do i care.
That being said, it wasn't a SJW cringe-fest the way the trailer indicated it would be. There are only a few moments of PC-dom and it is glanced over and not made a big deal of.
It's decent mindless entertainment such as if you are gonna clean the living room anyway, which is precisely what I did while it was playing.
