I did not see this in theaters because they didn't have it in English. Although I have to admit that is not the only reason I didn't go. Had it been in English I probably still wouldn't have gone.

You see, I am one of the people that feel as though the Star Wars universe has been pretty much destroyed since shortly after Disney got a hold of it. I enjoyed Rogue One, but have been underwhelmed with anything else that has come out, in particular I absolutely hated The Last Jedi. I wrote a vitriol-filled diatribe about that piece of crap.

That being said, Solo was visually stunning, the story was actually pretty good about how Han ended up being a smuggler and his introduction to Chewie. Lando, and of course the Millennium Falcon kind of makes sense.

Now, i hope this doesn't make me sound too misogynistic, but Disney just had to go and throw a feminist agenda into the film again didn't they? I'm not going to spoil anything but there are several instances where the women characters are the saviors to the "donkey stupid" men they are accompanying and I just gotta wonder why Disney keeps doing this. Even one of the droids was a #metoo robot with an attitude who is hell bent on saving the world and equal rights.

The visual effects are amazing, especially the scenes during the Kessel Run, which is funny to me that such an epic event can be spawned from one line that was spoken by Han in the Mos Eisley Cantina back in Star Wars IV.

This was the best part of the film for me and for and I would imagine this was incredible to see in the theater. I saw it on on 50" screen with a pretty poor audio system so I can only imagine how intense it would have been in an IMAX theater.
Having their escape cut off by a star destroyer surrounded by a space maelstrom was eerie and awesome.

I would be interested in seeing how much of this was CGI and how much was actually done using scale models. If it is 100% CGI it is very very good CGI because it looks crisp and never fake the way the CGI did in Episodes 1 and 2.

The acting is good, the action is nicely paced, the story is interesting and the addition of Woody Harrelson is always welcome in my book. The only problem I had with it is that they have a slapstick feel to it and hints of a political agenda. Overall, it is worth seeing and deserving of praise.

I liked Solo too, as it felt like a return to the spirit of early George Lucas, the guy who came up with the rollicking Indiana Jones adventure serial type of story, as well as the original Star Wars, which immediately announced itself as an action serial by beginning with episode 4.

And of course, these were the most fun characters in that original adventure serial, Han and Chewbacca, since they were the two characters who always had a sense of humor and a feeling of a lived in relationship, and here, they get to meet for the first time in battle, and then go on an adventure. And a heist story is often one of the most fun kinds of adventure.

The trouble with the movie, for me, was it was all a little too predictable, like a heist movie for little kids, rather than big ones, and in an age of Game of Thrones heightened awareness of the mortality of characters, it really didn't offer any edge of your seat moments of threat.

Further, as a movie, it doesn't really have anything to say (I don't count the politically correct stuff as an actual theme, as it's simply a backdrop for the story), so lacks resonance, and it certainly doesn't linger in the memory. Like a night drinking with friends, or an afternoon orgasm, or any number of cheap thrills, experienced and immediately forgotten.

Ultimately, it's great fun, which is a major plus, in an age where franchises are being stripped of their charm by soulless corporate planning.

Luckily, I did get to see it in IMAX 3D, with lasers, which cost a fortune, but really allowed immersion into this fun fantasy world for 2 solid hours of escapism. :)

Wow, an 8. I'm pretty surprised by that. Last Jedi was prettier, in my opinion, although also considerably dumber.

One of my beefs with both this and Rogue One is the new Star Wars team's ability to really get the worst out of excellent actors. Maybe it's that it came out less than a year after The Glass Castle where Woody Harrelson's performance really blew me away, but he's utterly wasted in this movie. Similarly Forest Whitaker in Rogue One. Surely if you can get these guys it would be a good idea to try to use them well.

Solo (film ) is one of my favourite films. I enjoyed every single scene and it was a great fun too see with sitting my friends.

I actually thought Solo was pretty good. And honestly, don't shoot me but I think Disney has done a better job at story telling than the work done in the Anakin movies. Of course none have held up to the original Star Wars series.

I get what you mean about the feminist agenda. I am all for equal rights, but not at the cost of swinging the pendulum to another extremist position. I have been commenting to my wife about how in every single show that we watch, especially in DC Comics shows, a female character cannot be seen being overpowered by a male character. They do this to the point of distraction. Notice this on any hero movie or TV show made recently. If a female and a male character are fighting, you can skip it because the girl is going to win every time.

A particularly stupid example was on an episode of Supergirl where she ended up fighting Superman and kicked his ass big time. The apologists say that they are both super, so it could happen. But think about it. He is a huge strong man and she is a dainty little girl. They are both from the same planet and have the same powers. I don't think it would be sexist to say that he could kill her with one punch. It's just common sense!

Solo, the latest edition to the Star Wars canon is solid, entertaining fare that satisfies but also feels somewhat inconsequential. This story concerns itself with the backstory of Han Solo, played with gusto by the charismatic Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars films. Relative newcomer Alden Ehrenreich is serviceable in the role but never soars. He lacks that certain star power to truly convince. There is star power here though as Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke shine in their roles but ultimately the story feels a bit routine. Which is Solo battling and struggling to carve out a niche in the war ridden Empire. Of course he manages to escape several dicey situations and there are big action sequences with a slew of special effects, but nothing ever gives you the wow factor. There are some nice new characters and it all moves at a good pace as you would expect with Ron Howard at the helm. But I think I just expected a little more bang for the buck.
