Once again this popped up on my "feed" on Netflix's main menu and I had never heard of it before it was just there. I wasn't really much of a Motley Crue fan back when they were really big in the mid to late 80's but I did hear about how nuts they were while touring and what not.
We all know about Tommy Lee because of reasons :P but I never really knew much about the rest of the band. For one thing, I had no idea that Nikki Sixx was actually the original driving force behind the band and I gotta say as a fellow bass player, that it is very rarely the bass player that writes most of the music.
The biopic does a really good job showing the human side of these guys and not just focusing on their crazy antics (although it does focus on that a lot too) and it also shows a great deal of compassion that they have for one another (although it doesn't seem like they saved any for really anyone else.)
Bands and everyone else (and most anyone else) look ridiculous by today's standards but to be fair, I think that if you look back in time 20 years from really any modern time that the same can be said. I feel as though director Jeff Tremaine (director, and also one of the stars of Jackass) did a very good job of portraying the times with the costume and makeup decisions.
When I started watching this, i wasn't really in the mood to sit down for something 1 hour and 40 minutes long, but there was never a point during this film that I wasn't truly entertained - It is just perfectly done

This is the most entertaining thing I have watched on TV in recent times both fiction or non-fiction. The pacing is perfect, the choice for actors was perfect, and really everything else in the film is perfect as well. How they found someone that looks exactly like 1990's Heather Locklear is amazing as well. Overall, I would say that even if you weren't alive during Crue's time in the limelight, this is a wildly entertaining film.
On a scale of "Urgh!" to "Wowsers!" I give The Dirt a well deserved score of....
