If I had to die tommorow, and could read only one last manga, it would be Monster or Berserk. It is really hard to decide which one is better. However today, I will recommend you „Monster.“
• 1994-2001 • Written by: Naoki Urasawa • Genre – Psychological, Thriller, Mystery, Seinen • Vol:18; Ch:162

The story is about japanese neurosurgeon Kenzo Tenma working in Germany. He has everything in his life. Bright future, money, girlfriend, just everything. Lately, he gives preference to a young boy with gunshot wound to his head, againts mayor of the city he lives. The boy survives, the mayor dies. Tenma loses everything after that.

This is everything I will tell you about a plot. It is for your good, trust me. However it is not „tales from hospital“. Story is actually not about hospital at all. Characters are really well written, you will feel, what they feel and with combination of grim atmosphere, you won’t stop reading. Story has few moments, which you will remember for a very long time and that is always a good thing.

For interest, plot is set in Europe in 80’. Characters travel few times to my country, Czech Republic. You can see czech inscriptions. To be honest, they are not translated well, but this one „Obluda, která nemá své jméno“ which means A Nameless Monster is translated well.

At the end, if you want to read a very good manga, pick this one, you will not regret at all.
