Such a loose impression on my part, because a full-fledged review is unnecessary in my opinion. The movie is a very cool, brilliantly made show, but aside from the technology, there's nothing really worth writing about. Well, unless for you it is a value in itself that the latest child of one of the most important creators of contemporary cinema is a well-executed blockbuster in every field, which is not so common in the last dozen or so years. I don't want to say that bad movies didn't come out in the past, because that's at least partly a myth (or entirely, something up for debate), but I don't think I'm lying when I say that more time was spent on them, or at least more expensive.

By several years, I don't mean just the worst stage in Marvel's history, i.e. recent years, it's just that stage is most visible when you can no longer pretend that everything is ok. I'm not saying that Cameron is perfect - the second part "Aliens" is unfairly praised IMO, because it's boring, because there were ridiculously few Xenomorphs (and their short airtime and terrible editing, they're not even funny) and worse than part 1 in every way. "True Lies" had its problems (we watched it recently, so I'm fresh), stupid lyrics that would match a lot of idiocy from HBO, Netflix, D+ series, BUT internally it was a cohesive movie that had its own vibe. You could like it or not, but the movie was "some". All we could do was criticize the script and its mishaps, but Cameron compensated for that with other aspects.

"Avatar 1" was a technological breakthrough, like "Doom 1" at the time of its release (or "Quake" or "Unreal") and don't even argue with that, because I've seen ignorant people do that. I do not say this with a feeling of superiority, although it beats a kilometer from the above statement. I'm ignorant myself and know how much I don't know about it, but I'm aware of the fact. It was enough for me to read the statements of people who know technology or at least are cinema hobbyists, and when I was a more ordinary, gray viewer, they were already interested in it and wrote about it. The movie had its plot problems, it was too simple etc. but in terms of the quality of effects, creativity, ingenuity, showing all this - it came out absolute mastery.

And the second part is also a benchmark of current possibilities, we see it very well in this production costing 350-400 million dollars (I'm betting this after the statement of the producer, Cameron's long-term collaborator, who said that the full budget of the film was much higher than 250 million, about which are spoken). I told my girlfriend that what she sees here is the best possible filmmaking technology (or very close to that) played by a man who has eaten his teeth on it and, like George Miller, knows how to use these gigantic resources in a meaningful way. The sequel looks insane, especially the underwater scenes. This is literally "God of War 2018", but in the form of a movie, not a game. If you know the game, you know what I'm talking about, if not, then ... in other movies you will not see it yet. Or in other words - maybe they will be just as good, just as refined, just as majestic, big, epic... but not all at once. Why? Because there are simply not many people with such a reputation, with such skills. And as we've seen from many movies, that can easily go wrong. And when you invest that kind of money, producers want to get some kind of guarantee of earnings. Marvel has started to lose that reputation (whether you agree or not, those are the facts - and yes, that explanation didn't sit well with me either, but it's true) and we're seeing the effects of that.

Cameron still has that reputation. "Avatar" had virtually no spin-offs around it, toys and the rest of this type of merchandise was also woefully underused (which was definitely fixed in this part, as you can see by the length of the film - that's why I waited for the premiere on D+, today over 4 A one-hour trip to the movies is too much and tiresome time investment for me. Disney is certainly not displeased.), and it earned almost $ 2.5 billion. I was sure of that, but I decided I wasn't 100% sure, so I didn't say before the premiere that Disney and Cameron would definitely not lose. Now I can boast that some commentators were wrong, and I was among those who predicted the box-office result correctly. Ultimately, I'm not thrilled with the film, but the special effects, image quality and general entertainment it provided for me and my girlfriend made our voices crack and I couldn't say anything in my natural tone of voice. I was like an intimidated teenager who got a chance to date the hottest high school boy in school. I will probably return to it, this time watching it in the original language version, but I will not watch it 4 times, like its predecessor. Nevertheless, I will definitely come back to this world once Cameron shoots another sequel. He's made enough money for Disney that they'll probably let him do one (or two) projects on a smaller budget. And he will earn even more, I can already see these attractions in Disneyland.
