So far we started watching "Vinyl", on the same day we also finished the 1st season of "Euphoria". A series that promised to be a great title, and ultimately let me down a lot. I will say yes, the first half was great, but with each episode of the second half it got worse and worse. If I had to compare it to anything, it would be "Sex Education". The series, like "Euphoria", tells about the difficult problems of adolescents or people who have become adults, but without artificial powdering of reality or polishing certain topics. I say this both from the perspective of the entire season and individual aspects, most of which are more favorable for Netflix's production. I say individual because there are aspects in which he is doing better.
The main character is 17-year-old Rue Bennett played by the charming and talented Zendaya, known for her role as M.J in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Malcolm & Marie" (Netflix), "The Greatest Showman" or "Dune", which will soon hit theaters. Rue is addicted to drugs - and we're not talking about the weak like marijuana or amphetamines, but something much thicker. Do you know what George Floyd really died of, contrary to the current narrative in the shitty media? For example, fentanyl, which also appears in this story, and if the effect after taking it did not differ from reality, then ... Well, I am not surprised that George could not breathe properly. Anyway, the main character has been suffering from various problems since childhood - e.g. panic attacks or other psychological or neurotic conditions (if I made a mistake and gave it a wrong name, I apologize). Like her friends or colleagues - the pressure of the environment or family visible in many different examples (Kat, who was a shy girl through her carcass, quickly discovers her sexuality, or Nate Jacobs, who hides a shy boy who cannot cope with aggression under the alpha male's skin. ), alcoholism in the family (on the example of toxic parents - a father who killed himself by alcohol and a mother with a weakness for alcohol. As you can see, we have the potential for a really good show that addresses teen issues. Not only from the USA, but also from Poland and other Eastern European countries. I know a few similar cases myself, and I am also familiar with some of the problems of some heroes. They were presented very well - as I said, series produced for HBO or Amazon are usually of higher quality in terms of directing, script and the performance itself. Sure, Netflix has shown several times that if necessary, it can spend a lot of money and their series are of a good level, but they also produce a lot of junk productions. Amazon and HBO are trying to avoid them, or at least I haven't found the weak ones so far. The language is stronger and situations are often shown in a sharper way than in Netflix series. As a result, problems such as the fight against drug addiction can be shown better and more realistically. A young man in such a state is not only a screaming child, he can quickly turn into an unbalanced person who is able to kill or hurt the closest person just to get another dose of the drug. I also liked the deeper approach to the problem of teen sex - although SE compensates for it by showing it more from the side of disease, I was more impressed by showing the effects of peer pressure and how quickly the internet can reproduce content that should not be available to it. Unfortunately, apart from a few other smaller threads, this is where the "Euphoria" dominates the competition from Netflix. Sex Education also has some silly and unnecessary scenes that spoil the overall tone of the story and shallow down the problems it tries to portray, but these mostly catch your eye later, not in Season 1. Indeed, if you only consider individual episodes, I would probably praise the HBO series more, but when I have to judge the overall picture, despite my good intentions, I cannot find more advantages in favor of the work I am discussing.
My girlfriend, in my opinion, rightly summed it up - the first half was very good, and the second only spoiled the impressions. In the case of Sex Education, the level goes up slower and is more polite to the problems it raises, but the progress is consistent. We delve deeper and deeper into teenagers' problems, discover the challenges they face every day. Even though a few threads are ... stupid, they do not make the main message shallow. In the case of "Euphoria" we are dealing with a drop in level - especially in the case of the final, which was a big disappointment for me and my girlfriend and discouraged me from waiting for the sequel. In addition, the issues he touches on become too superficial, like in a weak or medium-sized teen show. It's not as painful a fall as Raised by Wolves, but it did hurt a bit. To sum up - I recommend the first half, but later it is only worse.

Tak czy siak, główna bohaterka od dziecka cierpi na różne problemy - np. ataki paniki, czy inne schorzenia natury psychologicznej lub neurotycznej (jeśli popełniłem błąd i źle to nazwałem, to przepraszam). Podobnie jak jej koleżanki, czy koledzy - presja otoczenia lub rodziny widoczna na wielu różnych przykładach (Kat, która była nieśmiałą dziewczyną przez swoją tuszę, szybko odkrywa swoją seksualność lub Nate Jacobs, który pod skórą samca alfa ukrywa nieśmiałego chłopca nie umiejącego sobie poradzić z agresją), alkoholizmu w rodzinie (na przykładzie toksycznych rodziców - ojca, który zabił się przez alkohol i matki mającej słabość do alkoholu. Córka w wyniku tego cierpi na syndrom DDA, czyli np. ma problem z nimfomanią, trudno jej nawiązać trwałą miłosną relację, której nie jest w stanie zrozumieć. Inny przykład - ojciec jednej bohaterki pije codziennie od 10 lat, a żona to akceptuje i tłumaczy jego zachowanie przed dziećmi). Jest też Jules, która jest transseksualną nastolatką. Wracając do głównej bohaterki, po śmierci ojca wpada w uzależnienie od różnych narkotyków, bo tylko w ten sposób może osiągnąć stan, w którym czuje się spokojnie i bezpiecznie. Dzięki poznaniu Jules Vaughn, jest w stanie poradzić sobie z trudnym zadaniem, jakim jest odwyk.
Jak sami widzicie, mamy tu potencjał na naprawdę dobry serial, który dotyka problemów nastolatków. Nie tylko tych z USA, ale również Polski i innych krajów Europy wschodniej. Sam znam kilka podobnych przypadków, jak również nie obce są mi niektóre problemy części bohaterów. Zostały przedstawione one bardzo dobrze - jak już mówiłem, seriale produkowane dla HBO lub Amazona, zazwyczaj cechują się wyższą jakością w kwestii reżyserii, scenariusza, jak i samego wykonania. Jasne, Netflix kilkukrotnie pokazał, że jak trzeba, to potrafi wydać dużo pieniędzy i ich seriale prezentują dobry poziom, ale produkują też wiele śmieciowych produkcji. Amazon i HBO starają się ich unikać, a przynajmniej ja póki co nie trafiłem na te słabe. Język jest mocniejszy, a sytuacje nieraz są pokazywane w ostrzejszy sposób niż w serialach Netflixa. Przez to można lepiej i realniej pokazać problemy, jak np. walka z uzależnieniem od narkotyków. Młody człowiek w takim stanie nie tylko jest krzykliwym dzieckiem, może się błyskawicznie zmienić w niezrównoważoną osobę, która jest w stanie zabić lub skrzywdzić najbliższą osobę, by tylko zdobyć kolejną porcję narkotyku. Podobało mi się również głębsze podejście do problemu seksu nastolatków - co prawda SE kompensuje to pokazywaniem go bardziej od strony chorób, ale mocniejsze wrażenie zrobiło na mnie pokazanie skutków presji rówieśników oraz tego, jak szybko internet potrafi powielać treści, które nie powinny do niego trafić. Niestety, pomijając kilka innych mniejszych wątków, to tu kończą się rzeczy, w których "Euphoria" góruje nad konkurencją od Netflixa. "Sex Education" również ma kilka głupich i niepotrzebnych scen, które psują ogólny wydźwięk historii i spłycają problemy, które stara się przedstawić, ale te głównie rzucają się w oczy później, a nie w 1 sezonie. Fakt, gdyby brać pod uwagę tylko pojedyncze odcinki, to prawdopodobnie bardziej pochwaliłbym serial HBO, ale gdy muszę oceniać całokształt, to mimo dobrych chęci, nie jestem w stanie znaleźć większej ilości zalet na korzyść omawianego przeze mnie dzieła.
Moja dziewczyna moim zdaniem słusznie to podsumowała - pierwsza połowa była bardzo dobra, a druga tylko popsuła wrażenia. W przypadku "Sex Education" poziom wolniej idzie do góry oraz grzeczniej podchodzi do problemów, które porusza, ale postęp jest konsekwentny. Coraz bardziej zagłębiamy się w problemy nastolatków, odkrywamy wyzwania, z którymi muszą się mierzyć codziennie. Mimo, że kilka wątków jest no... głupich, to nie spłycają one głównego przekazu. W przypadku "Euphorii" mamy do czynienia ze spadkiem poziomu - zwłaszcza w przypadku tego finałowego, który był dla mnie i mojej dziewczyny dużym rozczarowaniem i zniechęcił mnie do czekania na kontynuację. Poza tym problemy, które porusza stają się zbyt powierzchowne, jak w słabym lub co najwyżej średnim serialu dla nastolatków. Nie jest to tak bolesny spadek, jak w przypadku "Raised by Wolves", ale trochę zabolał. Reasumując - polecam pierwszą połowę, ale później jest tylko gorzej.
