Although I sometimes complain about streaming (in the sense that there are too many entities on the market, which makes it difficult for viewers to have access to everything), its unquestionable advantage is that companies are fighting for the number of subscriptions and our attention. These inconveniences are basically easy to avoid (because it is enough to buy streaming for a month and watch everything that interests us legally), in return showrunners and companies go to great lengths to gain access to our wallets. Thanks to this, we have gigantic access to a variety of content that would have been unattainable for us years ago. Mainly because the cost of producing a series for a niche group in society is not that high, and if it is good, it may attract attention thanks to the fandom and, for example, their memes, thanks to which various information can be transferred quickly and easily. "Invincible" is not a niche topic, on the contrary - we have a huge boom in productions with super-heroes, but it has brilliant memes and a very good plot. I don't know how much the comic book's creator owes, and how much does Amazon contribute, but thanks to this company, many have discovered this story, and memes from him are very popular this year.
The story is trivial at first, to the point where it might turn some viewers off, but it's worth watching 1 episode for the end! A few times I was even surprised that the author was not sued by DC for IMO excessive inspiration. The similarities are gigantic, at times I felt like I was watching a kind of cheap porn parody that tried to be faithful to its prototype, but fortunately I changed my mind not much later. Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't done research and I don't really want to do it, but didn't the authors (Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker) have the ambition to make a comic strip that deconstructs their genre? One that would demolish some stereotypes and modify patterns that are characteristic of them? No matter, maybe I misinterpret. Anyway, the plot is about Mark Grayson. An ordinary teenager who attends a regular high school and leads an ordinary life. His father is an Omni-man (Superman in this world), but Mark was an ordinary teenager until high school. At some point, his super powers have revealed themselves, and we watch him deal with growing up, unfamiliar problems and fighting evil. These unknown problems are not something completely unheard of in the arts (literature, comics, anime) or the internet. Some elements from the Kirkman and Walker comics have appeared before in games, anime, comics, and some have been the subject of many discussions among fans of this type of culture - what if Superman decided to rebel against people? What if super heroes killed or their images were purely artificially created creations? I know it's not something particularly innovative, but I'm not a member of the comic book fandom so I don't know the topic that well and can only talk about such standard questions. Coming back to the topic, even though they are not innovative threads, I did not expect such creativity and frequency when using or modifying them. More than once I was surprised because I expected a simpler solution or that they would drag a thread longer.
The plot partly reminds me of the anime "Boku no Hero Academia". In Invincible, super heroes, super powers and super villiani are also widely present, and we have different teams of both groups, a supra-governmental organization that oversees the work of the former. In general, you will find a lot of things that connect both titles, but they differ in one thing - the age category. "Invincible" is a series intended for adults, not only because of the sex, brutality, bloody fights (if you like how blood spills during strong scenes, here you will have a lot of it), but also the topics the series touches upon. These are not too heavy philosophical debates, after all, it is primarily an entertainment series, where such elements are only an addition, but clearly stand out from the series intended for a younger audience. Besides ... Hmm, how should I say it, so as not to spoil ... Oh, let me put it this way - imagine the most serious topics that the MCU touches on. For example, Thanos and his motivation, government participation in the actions of super heroes, some of their controversial actions. Here we have more of it, and in addition, without overly smoothing the presentation. The style of this series reminds me of the famous movie from the DC universe - "Justice League Dark: Apokolips War". With one small, but noticeable difference - the Amazon series had a much larger budget and probably better creators.
Sometimes there were simplified scenes at the level of Walaszek's production like "Kapitan Bomba", but they were definitely better made. However, there were so few of them that I can turn a blind eye to it and say that "they had to save on something". I suspect that in the 2nd and 3rd season there will be even fewer of them. Apart from these little things, it was great! The character's animation and movements were dynamic, the power and speed of the strokes were great! As a fan of large-scale hand-to-hand combat and destruction, I had a lot of cool scenery to look at. The series gave me as much pure and unfettered joy as the final season of "Castlevania" - there are many shots that make a nice wallpaper for my phone or computer. Each fight scene deserves credit for either its quick pace, ingenuity or execution. If you missed a decent kill after the last movie "Dragon Ball Super: Broly", then Amazon will make you enjoy waiting for the next film.
All in all, Amazon's latest creation is one of the best surprises this year, and maybe even the best. Trailers didn't impress me, most of the nerds of both genders in my news bubble had seen this show some time ago and I had been ignorant for a long time. And as it usually happens, I am glad that I found out about this work so late - thanks to this, I will suffer less while waiting for the next seasons. And it's for what, it's a very good series for young people and people of my generation who are bored with overly schematic productions. Some are still fans of Marvel, some do not like this subject at all, some are bored with the MCU and are looking for fresh impressions. Regardless of which group you belong to, "Invincible" is a show that is definitely worth your time. At least this one hour to watch 1 episode. I am giving myself a mark of quality - it is a good show for both the eye and the soul, I rate it 8 + / 10. Besides, this work perfectly shows that the real confrontation between Superman and Batman is over, or the strongest incarnation of the former against Goku in full power. Contrary to what some commentators say, the hero of one of the most famous Japanese comics has no chance. And Omni-Man is just such an average version of Superman - it is neither the most powerful nor the weakest.
