Impressions quickly from 1 animated film. I will not write about everything that I liked or disliked, I write from the heart. I will start writing the mini review on Sunday, but I will have to watch it again, this time in English, because judging this movie is not that simple - there are LOTS of things to criticize and praise for. Kind of like "WarCraft" in the movie version.
Lots of monsters but unfortunately went for quantity not quality. Aguara's design weak (like most monsters), but they showed their behavior and power exactly as Sapkowski did in "Season of Storms". The approach to children and the magical power that gives them a position on the level of Vampires, some magicians, good witchers. Phantoms are very cool, Drowners are cool, Basilisks are awkward, a werewolf can be.
One Witcher test is mega stupid, but it would be defensible if they made a few small changes. Poisoning them with potions, poisons, magic, i.e. mutation etc. it turned out as great as I imagined it to be.
Many controversial things seem to me that I can justify, because there was an answer to them somewhere in the books - e.g. that the Traits of Magicians and Witchers behaved exactly as they do now, e.g. officials - when they see that the source of income is ending, they generate new problems. Sapkowski explained this on several levels in the book. Not everything, because some things are ... Well, just inconsistent with the canon.
Vessemir ... Let me put it this way, this movie was too short to be portrayed well, and so were the other characters, so ... It is partly in line with how the games, books and other Witchers talked about it, but I understand to some extent people complaining that this is not the Vessemir. I will explain it in the review. This Yennefer from the movie is IMO worse than from the Netflix series.
The witchers and their signs are too strong. Some things only good magicians could do, in terms of skill, but it's not that bad. Which doesn't mean it's okay.
Blood, fights are in line with what Sapkowski wrote and the games presented. In this respect it is good, and at times very good, but again - The Witchers remind me more of the warriors from the end of the 1st series of "Dragon Ball" than the Witchers from the books.
There are some elements that spit on the canon of books, but there are also LOTS of small elements that will appeal to The Witcher fans.
Overall the movie is nice, but it is underdeveloped in many respects. I don't know if you like it. I liked it moderately, but I understand the people who complained. This is one of those cases where it is difficult to say whether a movie will appeal to large groups of people or not. A purely personal matter.
Animation, line - it was below average at times, but most things looked at least acceptable, so I'm not complaining.
You can see that they took a lot of stuff from the games (mainly models - like food, armor etc.)
And now I'm finishing, because my sorceress is complaining that I should leave the computer :P.
No po prostu niezgodne z kanonem.
Vessemir... Wytłumaczę to w recenzji.
