Greetings friends of Movies & TV Shows, I recently saw a movie and I thought it would be interesting to review it. It is not so new, it was released in 2010, what happens is that I do not have much time left to watch TV. I am taking advantage of the fact that I have installed Netflix, I was interested in the title of the film and the truth is that I was not disappointed.

How cruel can human beings be, who is more cruel, men or women? Watching this film made me think, men are always more ruthless than women, maybe it's a cliché, maybe not, the truth is that this time I could see the audacity, intelligence, but above all the coldness and cruelty in a woman.

Revenge is a dish that is eaten cold, but above all it is sweet, very sweet, hence the title of this film "Sweet Revenge". Before I get into the plot, I want to tell you that I couldn't help but put myself in this woman's shoes and think what I would do in a moment like that.

Sarah Butler stars as Jennifer Hills, a young writer who rents a cabin away from the city to concentrate on writing a novel. Perhaps she had one of those classic writer's blocks and wanted to get away from it all. The place was beautiful, with a lake almost in front of her, extraordinary landscapes, where she could walk or run outdoors. In addition to writing, our protagonist took some things to distract herself, wine, lots of wine to relieve stress.

Everything was going well until she began to hear strange noises in the surroundings, being alone, in a forest in the middle of nowhere, I would be a little afraid of friends of strangers that might be roaming the place, and in fact, they were.

Before staying there, Jennifer had put gas in her car where she had an impasse with the guys manning the gas station, and it was they themselves who broke into the cabin. One night, after hearing some noises, the 4 men entered the cabin and tortured the girl for a long time while having fun in what they thought was a simple game. In a moment of carelessness, the young girl was able to escape and in the middle of the journey she meets the Sheriff and the old man who had rented the cabin to her.

It seemed that Jenni was now safe, but it was not so, this man under the garb of the law was in cahoots with the men who had tortured her. There were no longer 4 men, now the woman had to face one more, the sheriff. There was a party inside and outside the cabin, Jennifer was raped several times and the intention of the men was to kill her and disappear all evidence, however, things did not go as expected.

From that moment on, these men unknowingly marked their own destiny because they suffered twice as much as each one did to her. The scenes are quite crude, but bearable, it is here where this woman put her impetus to the test to do what she did and collect her sweet revenge.

What struck me about the film

One of the things that didn't convince me was the scene where Jennifer, already broken after the rapes, was walking towards a bridge, the men were following her to kill her and then she jumped into the river. She never came out, she was supposed to do it to breathe and even more in the case of her who was in such a deplorable state of health after being beaten and outraged. The men looked for her everywhere, never found her, and of course, surmised that she was dead.

Nowhere in the film was there a flashback to explain how she survived being in that weakened state. Also, the girl after a month of being missing started stalking these men and here another point caught my attention, she left a sandal to one of them at the door of her house, the ones she had lost in the middle of the forest while running away. The idea was to somehow tell them that she was back. I can't imagine that she went back to look for them, to find the same sandals again and perfectly clean after all that time. At the moment I thought she bought others like them to carry out part of her revenge, maybe it is something trivial and unimportant, but it seemed a little out of place because it was an object she lost and I did not see it easy to recover. Did she want to prove she was alive? In that way it seemed a bit absurd to me.

It was also unclear what he did with the sheriff's daughter when he took her to the park posing as her new teacher.

My rating

I think I give it a 8/10, the movie is interesting from the beginning and just when you think everything is going to get better it takes a totally unexpected turn. I think a woman of her stature (she was quite the delegate) would have a pretty hard time single-handedly doing what she did with these men much bigger and sturdier than her.

The scenes are quite chilling, there are things they didn't show and I'm thankful for that, because at the time I felt like I wasn't going to endure them and even covered my eyes, fortunately they didn't get to be so crude, certain situations were left to the imagination. While he carried out his revenge, I saw how each scene was worse than the previous one, what will he do to the next one, was the question I asked myself and when everything was about to end I said to myself "the sheriff is still missing".

I think that the cruelty of the human being will depend on the force that motivates him, what do you think?.
