Who likes narco-soap operas?
Maybe they’re not everyone’s cup of tea; in fact, not many people even like soap operas. I remember watching one or two back in the day, but all that drama—the same old story of the poor girl who falls in love with the rich guy—it all got boring. Then these action-packed soap opera-style series started coming out, depicting the world of drug trafficking in countries like Mexico, Colombia, the United States, and, of course, Venezuela, which isn’t immune to it.
I’ve watched a few series of this type; I remember sharing a review with you about women involved in this world, who also became rich and powerful thanks to the drug trade. But for a while now, I’ve been watching this rather long series about a man who wanted to be the lord and master of the drug trade.
🎬 The Lord of the Heavens 🎬
The series is called El Señor de los Cielos, which tells the story of a man named Aurelio Casillas and his determination to become the biggest drug trafficker in all of Mexico; to do so, he must face his enemies—of whom there are many—because every season, someone always emerges who wants to destroy him and his family.
The series consists of 10 seasons, with the latest one having just premiered; I’m currently finishing up Season 9. However, in addition to these 10 seasons, there’s a prequel—so to speak—also based on this series and its continuation through his family, focusing primarily on his heirs, his children. This is the famous CASTILE DYNASTY.
But getting back to the topic at hand, this series has a little bit of everything—from action scenes to romance; that part is kind of annoying, to be honest, hehe. If it focused solely on the action, the fights, and the confrontations, it would be a real hit, but as I said, it’s a narco-soap opera, so these kinds of scenes and relationships are a must.
Because of his struggle for power and control over everything, he’s had to suffer the consequences—losing his children, his mother, his brother… you name it. Even so, the Lord of the Skies keeps fighting to stay on his feet and remain the master of it all. What’s interesting about this series is that it shows us the extent of his power—not just in the criminal world, but in the political sphere as well—and how he even manipulates the country’s presidents.
This man actually existed, as the story is based on the life of Amado Carrillo Fuentes, a drug trafficker who became the head of the Juárez Cartel in the 1990s and was nicknamed “El Señor de los Cielos.” He was one of the most powerful criminals of that era, taking the place left by Pablo Escobar.
Rafael Amaya plays this character, and he has undoubtedly done a great job; he has been portraying this man for several years now, and I’ve read in some interviews that he’s mentioned how challenging it has been for him to play the role.
I'm waiting to finish watching this 9th season of Dynasty so I can continue with the series. It really keeps me entertained, hehe, but anyway, if you like this kind of show, I recommend it; that said, as I mentioned, there are parts that will bore you. Do what I do and fast-forward through them, hahaha...

Quizás no a todos sea de su gusto; incluso no a muchos les gustan las novelas. Recuerdo que en un tiempo yo veía una que otra, pero tanto drama, la misma historia de la chica pobre que se enamora del rico, todo eso me aburrió. Luego empezaron a salir estas series noveleras llenas de acción, relatando y mostrando el mundo del narcotráfico en algunos países, como México, Colombia, los Estados Unidos y, por supuesto, Venezuela, que no escapa de ello.
He visto algunas series de este tipo; recuerdo haberles compartido una reseña sobre mujeres involucradas en este mundo, las cuales también se hicieron ricas, poderosas, en base a este entorno del narcotráfico; pero desde hace un tiempo estoy viendo esta serie bastante larga, sobre un hombre, que quiso ser el dueño y señor del narco.

Dicha serie se llama El señor de los cielos, la cual relata la vida de este hombre llamado Aurelio Casillas y su empeño por convertirse en el mayor narcotraficante de todo México; para ello deberá enfrentar a sus enemigos, que son muchos, y es que cada temporada siempre surge alguien que quiere acabar con él y su familia.
Dicha serie consta de 10 temporadas, donde recientemente se acaba de estrenar esta última; yo estoy terminando de ver la 9.ª temporada. Sin embargo, aparte de estas 10 temporadas, hay una precuela, por decirlo de una manera, también en base a esta serie y su continuidad con su familia, relacionada más que todo con sus herederos, sus hijos, siendo esta la famosa DINASTIA CASTILLA.
Pero volviendo al tema, esta serie tiene de todo un poco, entre escenas de acción, romance; esta parte es fastidiosa, la verdad, jeje. Si se centrara nada más en la acción, las peleas y enfrentamientos, sería realmente un éxito, pero como dije, es una narconovela, entonces este tipo de escenas y relaciones no pueden faltar.
Por su lucha por el poder y control de todo, ha tenido que sufrir las consecuencias, perder a sus hijos, a su madre, hermano, en fin; aun así, el Señor de los Cielos sigue luchando para mantenerse de pie y seguir siendo el dueño de todo. Lo interesante de esta serie es que nos muestra el nivel de poder que tiene no solo en el ámbito criminal, sino en el político, el cómo maneja incluso hasta los presidentes del país.
Este hombre existió en la vida real, ya que dicha historia se basa en la vida de Amado Carrillo Fuentes, un narcotraficante que se convirtió en el jefe del Cartel de Juárez en los años 90, el cual fue apodado como El señor de los cielos. Fue uno de los criminales más poderosos en esa época, ocupando el lugar dejado por Pablo Escobar.
Rafael Amaya es el encargado de personificar este personaje, el cual sin duda ha hecho un gran papel; son varios años ya representando a este hombre, y he leído en algunas entrevistas que se le han hecho lo fuerte que ha sido para él representarlo.
Estoy esperando terminar de ver esta 9.ª temporada para ver la dinastía y así continuar con la saga. Me entretiene mucho, jeje, pero bueno, si a ustedes les gusta este tipo de series, se las recomiendo; eso sí, como dije, hay partes que les van a aburrir. Hagan como yo y adelántelas, jajaja...
