How does it feel when one knows that s/he is going to die? How does it feel when the pitying faces surrounding you makes it remember the person more than that s/he is going to die? It's indeed horrible. Why am I saying that? It's because last night I watched the anime " I Want to Eat Your Pancreas". This anime was on my waiting list for at least three years, and finally I watched it. The duration of this anime movie is 1 hour and 48 minutes.
At the beginning, a boy (Haruki Shiga) accidentally discovers that Sakura Yamauchi was suffering from terminal pancreatic illness from her diary. The boy was unfazed upon learning the truth about the illness. He was an introvert type person who rarely talked to anyone, and he didn't like meddling in others' business. He used to be lost in his own world, and he loved to read books. He didn’t love to interact with anyone, and nobody used to like him but on the other hand Sakura Yamauchi was totally opposite of his character. She was cheerful and easy-going personally. She loves to interact with people, and everyone was friendly to her.
Instead of knowing that she was going to die, she was trying her best to enjoy life as long as she had time and she thinks every day is gift for her and human connections are something that makes her life meaningful. She insisted on being friends with Haruki Shiga and that brought unwanted attention to others because everyone was shocked he she became friendly with someone having such kind of personality means both having opposite personalities.
She needed to hide her illness from others for being afraid of others to be emotional while she could act freely when she was with Haruki Shiga even if he knew the truth. The bonding between them became better and the story unfolded was amazing. The interaction between them makes moments meaningful to each other and both have influence on each other. One question of Haruki Shiga was “What does living means to you?”- was something that caught my attention. He cared for her and he was happy to know there was someone who cared for her even after knowing the truth, which actually made her both scared and happy.
Unfortunately, she didn’t die of her terminal pancreatic illness. She died for that for an accident and it was something unexpected. This anime made me realize that life should not be measured by the length of how much time we live. It also made me realize that death can come anytime. It can come today or tomorrow or some other days. So, we should try our best to enjoy life as long as we survive and we should try to connect with more people as long as we are alive. I must remind you that it’s indeed an emotional one. You will feel hope and heartbreak at the same time while watching this one.
I would love to give 80 ratings to the anime movie out of 100. I think I am not an emotional person, but the message that lies in the anime is meaningful even if the plot seems simple. I recommend you to watch it, and I think you will enjoy it too.
