"Kubrick, but what have you done? What is this? Is it cinema, is it painting, is it literature, is it classical music? Well, it can only be defined in two ways: 'Barry Lyndon,' and pure art.
I've never seen a movie like this before. I don't care that it stars Ryan O'Neal, who I admit is not a great actor (although I think he brings a perfect sense of fragility to Redmond here), I think this is one of the greatest films in the history of cinema, much better than 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', which defeated it at the Oscars.
The cinematography is perfect, really. With the lenses that NASA provided to Kubrick, he achieved images of a sharpness and naturalness of light still unmatched.
Of the soundtrack, well, what can we say with the classics that form it, only that they are conjugated with the image to perfection.
You've done it again, Kubrick; although, on second thought, when haven't you ever done it?
It's certainly not a film for everyone, due to its length (about 180 minutes) and its classic story, but if you like good cinema you can't miss it.
