The Silence of the Lambs was directed by Jonathan Demme and features Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins and Scott Glenn in the lead roles.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Harris, written in 1988 as a sequel to 1981's The Red Dragon.

An absolute classic. We are talking about one of the greatest films in the history of cinema , a true masterpiece that will keep us trapped from minute one, partly thanks to the direction of Jonathan Demme, but above all because of some protagonists who fill the screen in each of their fascinating and memorable encounters and, especially, by an Anthony Hopkins carrying out the role of his career. "Magnetic."

The Plot: The FBI is in the midst of a complicated investigation to uncover and catch an elusive serial killer known as "Buffalo Bill" (Ted Levine), who kidnaps young women, holds them prisoner for a time and then abandons their skinned corpses, and to try to get something to help them catch him, the decision is made to turn to one of the most famous serial killers of recent times, who is serving a life sentence in a psychiatric institution: Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), aka "Hannibal the Cannibal," who is also one of the most reputable and respected psychiatrists in the world.

The director of the Behavioral Science Division of the FBI, Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn), chooses for this mission not one of his expert agents, but a senior student at the Quantico Academy, Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster).

With it, a new chapter in the history of cinema and almost a subgenre within the criminal cinema was definitely opened: the story about the study and the hunt for the serial killer, despite the fact that other films already explored this phenomenon.

The Silence of the Lambs was the third film to win the five main Academy of Arts awards: Oscar for Best Picture, Oscar for Best Director Jonathan Demme, Oscar for Best Actor Anthony Hopkins, Oscar for Best Actress Jodie Foster and Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay Ted Tally, a feat that had already been achieved by It Happened One Night in 1934 and by One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1975.

It is also the first and to date only horror film to win the Oscar for Best Picture and the second to be nominated, a feat that had only been emulated in 1973, when The Exorcist was nominated in the same category.
