Rato tenía que no traía a estos lares una serie y es que me he estado poniendo al día con algunas que tenía en lista de espera, el tiempo no da para ver todo lo que quisiéramos. En esta oportunidad le tocó el turno a FROM, una serie de terror la cual tiene la bendición del mismo maestro del genero Stephen King, por si les sirve de algo. Llegué a ella por mera recomendación y debo decir, y desde ya es un adelanto, que los niveles de enganche que tengo son poco normales. Es una historia muy inquietante, adictiva y que desde el mismo minuto uno te mantiene en una expectativa latente; no paras de preguntarte el por qué de las cosas que allí ves y suceden.

It's been a while since I brought a series to these parts and I've been catching up with some I had on the waiting list, time is not enough to see everything we would like. This time it was FROM's turn, a horror series which has the blessing of the master of the genre Stephen King himself, for what it's worth. I came to it by mere recommendation and I must say, and it is already an advance, that the levels of hooking I have are not very normal. It is a very disturbing story, addictive and that from minute one keeps you in a latent expectation; you do not stop wondering why the things you see and happen there.

Y es que les pregunto, que harían si llegan a un lugar, un pueblo en este caso, del cual no pueden salir? - ustedes me dirán que con un par de piernas o un carro todo es posible pero allí se equivocan y es que estamos en un sitio aparentemente desconectado de todo lo conocido donde la realidad es un poco extraña. Las series de terror por lo general me gustan más que las propias películas, imagino que es porque al tener más tiempo de desarrollo es posible que las cosas salgan mejor y logren el efecto buscado; brevemente les puedo decir que esta historia es un thriller psicológico llevado al terror en donde la fuente de todo es desconocida ya que no sabes si es paranormal, humana, alienígena, monstruosa y un largo etc. Pero bueno, hablemos entonces de lo que es esta gran serie que está volteando miradas.

I usually like horror series more than the movies themselves, I imagine it is because having more time to develop it is possible that things come out better and achieve the desired effect; briefly I can tell you that this story is a psychological thriller taken to terror where the source of everything is unknown because you do not know if it is paranormal, human, alien, monstrous and a long etc.. But well, let's talk then about what is this great series that is turning heads.

Esta trama da comienzo con la familia Matthews quienes estaban haciendo un viaje en su casa rodante. Todo iba bien hasta que de la nada se consiguen un árbol atravesado en medio de la carretera que los obliga a desviar el camino hasta caer en un apartado, siniestro y abandonado pueblo. Las vibras que da aquel lugar no son las más saludables pero aún así entran para buscar ayuda y poder volver a la ruta, lo que no saben es que de aquel pueblo no se puede salir, por más que lo intenten y por más convencidos que estén de querer encontrar la salida no será posible hallarla. Ya con esto empiezan los juegos mentales y de raciocinio y es que no hay lógica en lo que está pasando, de hecho no hay sentido alguno en aquel lugar.

This plot begins with the Matthews family who were taking a trip in their motor home. Everything was going well until out of nowhere they get a tree stuck in the middle of the road that forces them to detour the road until they fall into a remote, sinister and abandoned town. The vibes of that place are not the healthiest but even so they enter to seek help and get back on the road, what they do not know is that they cannot get out of that town, no matter how hard they try and no matter how convinced they are of wanting to find the exit, it will not be possible to find it. With this, the mental and reasoning games begin and there is no logic in what is happening, in fact there is no sense at all in that place.

Con el paso del tiempo a esta familia no le queda otro remedio que quedarse en aquel sitio, un poco en contra de su voluntad, pero con la ayuda de Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) el sheriff de aquel pueblo, deciden entrar en razón y acceden a quedarse pero no sin antes escuchar todo lo que azota aquel lugar. Al estar rodeados de un bosque prominente los lugareños aseguran que una vez se pone el sol salen unas criaturas aterradoras de él por lo que la única protección es encerrarse en sus casas, asegurar puertas y ventanas y muy importante, usar un talismán en cada casa, todo esto hasta el amanecer. Obviamente es difícil de creer hasta que lo viven en carne y hueso. A pesar de todo las personas que allí habitan tratan de llevar una normalidad artificial mientras resisten a dichas criaturas y al agotamiento mental.

With the passage of time this family has no choice but to stay in that place, a little against their will, but with the help of Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) the sheriff of that town, they decide to come to their senses and agree to stay but not before hearing everything that plagues that place. Being surrounded by a prominent forest, the locals claim that once the sun sets terrifying creatures come out of it, so the only protection is to lock themselves in their homes, secure doors and windows and very important, use a talisman in each house, all this until dawn. Obviously it is hard to believe until they live it in the flesh. In spite of everything, the people who live there try to maintain an artificial normality while resisting these creatures and mental exhaustion.

Cuando comienzo a ver una producción de terror siempre lo hago con escepticismo porque es un genero muy complicado, siempre lo he dicho, y es que lograr que el espectador tenga las sensaciones que seguramente los creadores y escritores esperan es algo no muy fácil de hacer. Cuales son esas sensaciones? - pues incertidumbre, tensión, contrariedad, intriga y si el trabajo es top, miedo. Todas por lo menos una vez las he experimentado con esta serie, en mayor o menor intensidad, pero les aseguro que a lo largo de los episodios si están presentes. Esto hace que indudablemente no sea una historia aburrida, en ningún sentido lo es, al contrario es una que en sus diez capítulos te mantiene atornillado a la silla.

When I start watching a horror production I always do it with skepticism because it is a very complicated genre, I have always said it, and that is that making the viewer have the feelings that surely the creators and writers expect is not very easy to do. What are those feelings? - Well, uncertainty, tension, disappointment, intrigue and if the work is top, fear. I have experienced them all at least once with this series, in greater or lesser intensity, but I assure you that throughout the episodes they are present. This undoubtedly makes it not a boring story, in no sense is it, on the contrary it is one that in its ten chapters keeps you screwed to the chair.

Lo que hace a esta serie ser lo que es sin dudas es el desconocimiento absoluto de lo que te rodea, es decir, es muy probable que las respuesta estén en las narices de todos los habitantes pero por el miedo y la desconfianza del no saber que hay más allá de los arboles no sean capaz de encontrarlas. Ese es el verdadero juego, pareciera como una especie de experimento en el que se mide hasta donde es posible que llegue la mente hasta el punto de un posible colapso. De hecho en la serie se ve un poco de esto, como la fragilidad mental puede llevar a las personas a tomar decisiones que son pagadas con un alto precio. Y todo esto cubierto por un velo terrorífico en donde estas criaturas y otras cosas inexplicables acechan sin piedad a todos.

What makes this series what it is without a doubt is the absolute ignorance of what surrounds you, that is, it is very likely that the answers are in the noses of all the inhabitants but because of the fear and distrust of not knowing what is beyond the trees they are not able to find them. That is the real game, it seems like a kind of experiment in which it is possible to measure how far the mind can go to the point of a possible collapse. In fact in the series we see a bit of this, how mental fragility can lead people to make decisions that are paid with a high price. And all this covered by a terrifying veil where these creatures and other inexplicable things mercilessly stalk everyone.

El terror puede ser representado de muchas formas, en este pueblo lo podemos ver hecho miedo en las personas, a través de las criaturas que noche tras noche buscan entrar a las casas observándote por las ventanas y en acostumbrarse a vivir encerrados. Como ya dije es un thriller muy bien logrado que engloba todos estos temores y logra plasmarlos en la pantalla dando origen a unas escenas que puede que te den tu ligero susto, o te desconcierten o que te hagan darte cuenta lo preciada que es la libertad y tener una vida "normal". Hay unos diálogos muy buenos, la cinematografía también es de calidad ya que está hecho para que todo esté dentro del contexto derrotista y desesperanzador, en fin, un producto sorprendentemente bien hecho.

Terror can be represented in many ways, in this town we can see it made fear in people, through the creatures that night after night seek to enter the houses watching you through the windows and getting used to live locked up. As I said, it is a very well done thriller that encompasses all these fears and manages to capture them on the screen giving rise to scenes that may give you a slight scare, or disconcert you or make you realize how precious freedom and having a "normal" life is. There are some very good dialogues, the cinematography is also of quality since it is made so that everything is within the defeatist and hopeless context, in short, a surprisingly well made product.

Los personajes son muy diversos en donde todos o casi todos han pasado por situaciones complicadas dentro de este pequeño pueblo. El sheriff interpretado por Harold Perrineau es la persona que trata de mantener todo unido y en orden a pesar de llevar una carga emocional gigante, la culpa es algo que día a día lo carcome. Muy top ese personaje. Lo bueno de esta serie es que todos son protagonistas, no veo que hayan personajes secundarios ya que todos aportan algo a la trama, son relevantes en varias cosas por lo que siempre está pasando algo. Sin mentirles estamos hablando de por lo menos 12 personajes los cuales todos tienen un grado de importancia clave en el desarrollo de esta historia.

The characters are very diverse where all or almost all of them have gone through complicated situations in this small town. The sheriff played by Harold Perrineau is the person who tries to keep everything together and in order despite carrying a giant emotional burden, the guilt is something that eats away at him day by day. Very top notch character. The good thing about this series is that they are all protagonists, I don't see any secondary characters, they all contribute something to the plot, they are relevant in several things so there is always something going on. Without lying to you we are talking about at least 12 characters which all have a degree of key importance in the development of this story.

Esta trama se merece un sólido 8.5/10. Es de lo mejor que he visto en el año en este genero ya que lo tiene todo, una trama inquietante, buenas actuaciones, escenas bien logradas y hechas y no es que me deje llevar mucho por esto pero si el propio Stephen King da su beneplácito es porque de verdad vale la pena. La pueden ver en HBO, tiene segunda temporada la cual ya está en emisión así que hagan como yo y vean la primera y de una salten a la segunda. 10 episodios de 50 minutos aproximadamente. This plot deserves a solid 8.5/10. It is one of the best I have seen this year in this genre because it has it all, a disturbing plot, good performances, well done and well done scenes and not that I get carried away by this but if Stephen King himself gives his approval is because it is really worth it. You can watch it on HBO, it has a second season which is already on air so do like me and watch the first one and then jump to the second one. 10 episodes of 50 minutes approximately.
