Making a pact with the devil is never a good idea—something Grace MacCaullay understood perfectly in both the 2019 original and this sequel. There is a common belief that sequels are never quite as good; while that is certainly true for much of cinema, there are exceptions, and I believe this film is one of them. It succeeds because it preserves the essence of the first movie while featuring a significantly better cast. When something works, there is no need to tinker with it too much; creating a dark comedy infused with horror and slasher elements is a recipe for success—provided the story remains coherent and, above all, delivers the kind of horror that fuels the genre. Ready or Not 2 has all of this, which is why audiences—myself included—ended up liking it so much.
Hacer pactos con el diablo nunca será una buena idea y eso es algo que Grace MacCaullay lo ha entendido a la perfección tanto en la primera entrega del 2019 como en esta segunda parte. Hay una creencia que dice que las continuaciones o secuelas nunca son tan buenas y si, eso pasa muchísimo en el cine pero también es verdad que hay sus excepciones por ahí; este film creo que es uno de ellos. Y lo es porque mantiene la esencia de lo que el primer film y porque creo que este casting es bastante mejor. Las cosas cuando funcionan no hay que modificarlas mucho, hacer una comedia negra enmarcada en lo que es el terror y un poco de slasher es garantía de éxito siempre y cuando tenga coherencia y que sobretodo tenga de ese horror del que tanto se alimenta. "Ready or not 2" tiene todo esto, por eso es que es a la gente le terminó gustando tanto, incluyéndome.
This picks up right where the first movie left off. Do you need to watch the original? It certainly helps provide context for the events, though it isn't strictly necessary. Grace (Samara Weaving) survives that fateful night at the hands of the Le Domas family. To set the scene: we are dealing with a group of people who made a pact with a demon—Le Bail, alias Bael—trading their souls for eternal fortune. Grace believed it was all over—that the game had ended and the "curse" had been lifted—but nothing could be further from the truth. It turns out that was merely a prelude to the real test; it seems high-society families around the world entered into similar pacts, and now, following the demise of the Le Domas clan, a new "game" must be played to claim total power over that network.
Esto comienza justamente en el final de la primera película. Tienen que verla? - para que tengan contexto de lo que pasa si pero tampoco es tan necesario. Grace (Samara Weaving) sobrevive aquella fatídica noche en manos de la familia Le Domas. Para que entiendan un poco hablamos de una gente que hizo un pacto con uno de los demonios, Le Bail, que no es otro que Bael, para así tener fortuna siempre ha cambio de sus almas. Grace creía que todo aquello había terminado, el juego se había acabado y la "maldición" había llegado a su fin; nada más alejado de la realidad. Resulta que aquello fue solo el preámbulo para la verdadera prueba y es que tal parece que esos pactos también los hicieron familias de la alta sociedad alrededor del mundo por lo que ahora, gracias a la muerte de los Le Domas, tiene que hacerse otro "juego" para el reclamo del poder total de esa red.
All these families are summoned for the hunt—an event Grace must participate in yet again. The twist this time is that she isn't alone; she is joined by her sister Faith (Kathryn Newton), who helps her navigate the madness of being pursued by a group of people hungry for power and the perks that come with being beholden to Le Bail. As I mentioned, this is technically a horror movie—the kind driven by death and slaughter, featuring graphic violence and gore. Yet, it also incorporates dark comedy that makes the film incredibly entertaining to watch; these two genres always pair well together. The movie is packed with action from start to finish, as Grace is a constant target; the pursuit intensifies once they reach the location of the final game. Watching her fight to survive—both in the first film and this one—reveals a tremendous burden that she handles remarkably well; indeed, she proves to be far more capable of defending herself than one might expect.
Todas estas familias son convocadas para dicha cacería en la que Grace deberá participar, si, otra vez. El detalle es que ahora no está sola, esta con su hermana Faith (Kathryn Newton) quien la ayudará a salir de la locura que supone ser perseguida por un grupo de gente con hambre de poder y por los beneficios que supone estar a merced de Le Bail. Como ya dije esto es teoría es un terror pero ese que viene dado por muertes y matanzas, ese que puede llegar a tener un poco de gore y ser gráfico. Pero también cuenta con una comedia negra que hace que el film sea increíble de ver, estos dos géneros siempre van a ir bien juntos. El film está envuelto en una acción de principio a fin porque desde el inicio Grace siempre ha sido el target de todos, hay una especie de persecución constante hacia ella que se intensifica cuando llegan al sitio donde será le juego final. Verla tratar de sobrevivir tanto en la primera película como esta es una carga inmensa que ella lleva muy bien y es que si, se defiende mejor de lo que se piensa.
There is something strangely compelling about watching a group of people kill each other, especially given the variety of deaths—some of which are highly detailed and striking. The action runs the gamut, featuring firearms, swords, supernatural explosions, and plenty of brawls and hand-to-hand combat; the film is truly fast-paced. Add in the sheer amount of gore, and the result is spectacular and visually arresting—delivering the kind of bloodbaths that really grab the audience's attention. As for the plot, it holds up well; while the ending is somewhat predictable, the path taken to get there is murky enough to maintain a sense of intrigue and suspense. You never get bored watching this movie; it is incredibly entertaining, with constant action, and the performances and cast really elevate the experience.
Lo entretenido que es ver a un grupo de personas matarse entre si es algo que no tiene sentido porque hay variedad en las muertes, algunas bien detalladas y llamativas. Hay de todo tipo, con armas de fuego, espadas, explosiones sobrenaturales, muchos golpes, peleas; realmente es bien movido el film. Si a esto se le suma lo sangrienta que es pues el resultado es espectacular y vistoso. Y digo esto porque veremos los típicos baños de sangre que tanto llaman la atención. A nivel de trama pues creo que va bien, su final es algo esperado aunque la forma en como se llega a él si fue algo que no se ve muy claro lo que hace que la intriga y expectación esté presente. No te aburres en ningún momento viendo la película, es super entretenida, siempre está pasando algo y bueno que las actuaciones y sus elenco también ayudan.
Samara Weaving’s performance in these films is top-notch; I really enjoyed watching her act because she brings a ton of intensity to every scene, regardless of the emotion she needs to convey. I’d say the film rests almost entirely on her shoulders. However, Kathryn Newton also deserves a mention, as she shares much of the suffering and the fight scenes with Samara; together, they prove to be absolute machines when it comes to survival and combat. The cast is rounded out by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy (in a great role), Elijah Wood, and the fantastic Olivia Cheng. Clearly, this lineup is far superior to that of the first installment. To wrap things up, I can tell you that this is a great sequel that keeps the spirit of its predecessor alive—featuring plenty of blood, deaths, and action, along with a pretty solid conclusion to the story. Highly recommended if you enjoy these genres; I can guarantee you’ll have a great time watching the film. It runs just under two hours. I’ve included the trailer here so you can take a look.
Lo que hace acá Samara Weaving en estas películas es muy top, disfruté mucho verla actuar porque a todas las escenas le pone una tonelada de intensidad, sea cual sea el sentimiento que tenga que interpretar. Diría que el peso casi total del film recae en ella. Pero también hay que hacer una mención a Kathryn Newton quien comparte gran parte del sufrimiento y las peleas con Samara, las dos juntas logran ser realmente par de maquinas de supervivencia y de matar. El elenco lo completa Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy (en un muy buen papel), Elijah Wood y la gran Olivia Cheng. Claramente este lineup supera y por mucho al de la primera entrega. Como conclusión les puedo decir que es una gran secuela que mantiene la llama de su antecesora, mucha sangre, muertes, acción y un cierre de la historia bastante decente. Muy recomendada si les gustan estos géneros, ya les digo que la van a pasar muy bien viendo el film. Dura poco menos de dos horas. Por acá les dejo el tráiler y así le echan un vistazo.
