In my life I have had the opportunity to watch many good quality anime but few have been as good as Hellsing Ultimate. And I say this for many reasons, for the deep level of its story that leads us to a plot a little particular and full of morbidity, because we are facing an anime that is definitely not for children given how bloody it is and because in the end it fulfills its function which is to entertain and it does it in an exceptional way.
We are used to seeing different roles as far as the interpretation of Alucard is concerned, as for example in the well-known Castlevania where we see a version of him a little more friendly, quiet and not so demented and dark. But that changes in this anime where we see the true face of Count Dracula, where we appreciate who he really is and everything he is capable of, because yes, this vampire is one of the most perverse characters that exist in popular culture.
Ok, but what is this story about? - Let me tell you. Hellsing is an organization created many years ago in England in order to protect the Queen and put an end to any creature that lurks in the dark, creatures known as vampires. This group has been passing from generation to generation until reaching the current head, Integra, who is the one who discovers the existence of Alucard and who by past pacts is tied to this organization so it ends up becoming the most powerful weapon of Hellsing to fight evil.
But in this series besides vampires there are other challenges that the Hellsing organization has to deal with, in fact there are two. The first of them is a group of religious fanatics belonging to the Vatican and the second is another group but of Nazi separatists, each of them with their objectives well marked will give the fight against Integra, Alucard and the entire Hellsing organization.
As you can see in what I told you before and is one of the things I liked most about this anime is that there are elements that are undoubtedly very controversial for many people and also have an important historical burden, either for better or for worse. Having been able to mix elements such as the church by the hand of the Vatican, a Nazi movement that is no secret that made many pacts with the same church and also the whole issue of vampires with the story of Dracula is something that really gives a very good and great plus to this gem of anime.
If I had to summarize in a few words what this story is in the end I think it would be a "Theological horror". Because that's what it is, throughout the plot we will see many conflicts that have to do with beliefs, with faith, with who is the true God, if in the name of him you can do anything and the role of humans in the midst of these struggles. You will see many important historical elements that for those who know only a little of the universal history of the world is very interesting.
But back to the main character, Alucard, and as I said, we are facing the best version of him. A ruthless creature who is only on Earth to fulfill the orders of his mistress Integra, which are none other than to kill and annihilate all the enemies of Hellsing no matter what. And he does all this in the most bloody and crude way possible, as only he knows how to do it. And that is another of the great characteristics of this anime, how brutally violent and bloody it is to the point that everything becomes surreal.
And don't get me wrong, the whole thing is a gem that I enjoyed to the fullest. These stories of this type are still seen today but not as often as we would like despite the fact that this anime is more than 10 years old; because yes, this is not new. But continuing with the review another of the really strong points and as usual in the anime is the quality of animation, even though we are talking about more than a decade ago.
The combination of slow motion, 3D scenes and how realistic it is because little is said about this but to be really impressive and visual there has to be coherence in the animations and here those are things that do not fail. In my opinion, the amount of points that an anime adds when it is well animated is quite a lot because beyond the story and its background, fans really judge it a little more by sight.

In short, an anime with a very attractive story where we will see very interesting and complex characters, Major Nazi and Alexander Anderson for example, which will wrap us in a kind of religious/historical/violent bubble where only the fittest will come out well. A story that I also realized that raises and questions the role of the human being in these battles and wars, something that really makes us think a lot and that is appreciated, that not everything is reduced to blood and mutilations.
I give this great anime an 8/10, I think fans of Dracula, history and anime of this style I'm sure they will like it without any doubt, it has it all sincerely. You can find it on Netflix and it has 10 episodes of 45 minutes approximately. Give it a spin you will not regret it and for that I leave you the trailer:
