I did not pay much attention to this crime in 2017. It was a very media case, the Spanish press very skillful to exploit and take advantage of the rating, they made their feast both in written press and TV programs. At that time I was going through a lot of problems so I could not read or watch much. Now, with the Netflix release of this miniseries, plus a documentary, I have been shocked by how these events happened.
Like the true crime The Staircase, it's a story that if you're told it, it's hard to believe. In many occasions reality is more incredible than any fictional creation. This case has all the ingredients that the public loves in a story: love, sex, betrayal and death. Pillars on which countless fictional narratives have been built, but which are also part of our daily lives, hence the success of films and series of the true crime genre.
Laura Sarmiento is, together with Verónica Fernández, the main creator of the miniseries. Her previous series was very well received by the public and critics: Intimidad. Also inspired by real events. Last year I saw the movie La Jefa, whose script was written by her. I think she is a great screenwriter, whose career includes several successful Spanish series and no wonder, she was one of the screenwriters of the series that marked a before and after in Spanish fiction: Crematorio.
Burning Body addresses a well-known fact in Spanish society, leaving the real names of those involved, but also making some changes to help the narrative and the rhythm of the story.
No presté mucha atención a este crimen en 2017. Fue un caso muy mediático, la prensa española muy hábil para explotar y aprovecharse del rating, hicieron su festín tanto en prensa escrita como en programas de TV. En esa época yo estaba pasando por muchos problemas por lo que no podía leer ni ver mucho. Ahora, con el estreno en Netflix de esta miniserie, más un documental, he quedado impactada por cómo sucedieron estos hechos.
Al igual que el true crime La escalera, es una historia que si te la cuentan, es difícil de creer. En muchas ocasiones la realidad es más increíble que cualquier creación de ficción. Este caso tiene todos los ingredientes que el público adora en una historia: amor, sexo, traición y muerte. Pilares sobre los que se han construido innumerables narraciones de ficción, pero que también forman parte de nuestra vida cotidiana, de ahí el éxito de películas y series del género true crime.
Laura Sarmiento es, junto a Verónica Fernández, la principal creadora de la miniserie. Su anterior serie fue muy bien acogida por el público y la crítica: Intimidad. También inspirada en hechos reales. El año pasado vi la película La Jefa, cuyo guión fue escrito por ella. Me parece una gran guionista, cuya carrera incluye varias series españolas de éxito y no es para menos, fue una de las guionistas de la serie que marcó un antes y un después en la ficción española: Crematorio.
Con el cuerpo en llamas aborda un hecho muy conocido en la sociedad española, dejando los nombres reales de los implicados, pero también haciendo algunos cambios para ayudar a la narrativa y al ritmo de la historia.

Something that impacts the audience when knowing the details of the events, is that those involved belong to security forces that are to protect citizens, but whose personal lives are in constant conflict, delivered to their passions that will lead them to make bad decisions, blinded by love, with tragic consequences for each of them.
The miniseries manages to show us the personalities of those involved, their motivations and decisions, so that we can understand why what happened happened happened. It does not try to exonerate anyone, but to show all possible elements, especially the version of the jury and the prosecutor. The loose ends and the fact that we do not know for sure who the executing hand was, leaves the door open for us to make our own analysis.

Hay personalidades con un gran magnetismo. Esto se mezcla con la capacidad de mentir, engañar y un inmenso ego, convirtiéndolos en seres capaces de traspasar los límites morales.
Relaciones tóxicas. Quizás muchos hayan experimentado este tipo de relaciones. Suerte para los que han escapado de una. Lo siento por los que siguen atascados con una pareja tóxica. Huyan inmediatamente. Aléjense. Huyan. Hay muchas posibilidades de que no acabe bien. Tal es el caso de la historia que se nos cuenta en la miniserie. Relaciones muy tóxicas, donde la mentira, la infidelidad es la protagonista. Una mujer con una fuerte personalidad, hombres posesivos, celosos y locamente enamorados.
Todos policías. Algo que impacta en el público al conocer los detalles de los hechos, es que los involucrados pertenecen a fuerzas de seguridad que están para proteger a los ciudadanos, pero cuyas vidas personales están en constante conflicto, entregados a sus pasiones que los llevarán a tomar malas decisiones, cegados por el amor, con trágicas consecuencias para cada uno de ellos.
La miniserie consigue mostrarnos las personalidades de los implicados, sus motivaciones y decisiones, para que podamos entender por qué ocurrió lo que ocurrió. No trata de exculpar a nadie, sino de mostrar todos los elementos posibles, especialmente la versión del jurado y del fiscal. Los cabos sueltos y el hecho de que no sepamos a ciencia cierta quién fue la mano ejecutora, deja la puerta abierta para que hagamos nuestro propio análisis.
Úrsula Corberó is one of the best known Spanish actresses today. After La Casa de Papel, her career took a big leap, becoming an international star. She has landed roles in Hollywood productions. Although physically she does not look like Rosa Peral. The actress shows off her talent to have the magnetism of the real character. Her interpretation of Rosa is excellent, turning our heads as we try to unravel what is on her mind and the reasons for her behavior.
The character is fascinating. With a behavior that the press took advantage of to paint her as a femme fatale, she comes from a functional family, who received love and had everything she wanted. What was her emptiness? The relationships she had at the same time, infidelities and lies. Was she looking for love? Only pleasure? It's not only men who behave like this, it's another point to consider.
The rest of the cast more than fulfills the required performances. Quim Guttierrez stands out in the role of Albert Lopez. He makes the character his own, infusing him with that strength that the real-life Albert possesses. By the way, the real Albert has written a book where he tells his version of events. Actor Jose Manuel Poga plays Pedro Rodriguez, the traffic cop who falls madly in love, leaving his family behind. You will recognize the actor from his most famous character: Gandía, in La Casa de Papel. Something I find curious is that Corbero had very hot passion scenes with Quim and even with Raúl Prieto, but not with this actor. It seems strange to me...

Úrsula Corberó es una de las actrices españolas más conocidas en la actualidad. Tras La Casa de Papel, su carrera dio un gran salto, convirtiéndose en una estrella internacional. Ha conseguido papeles en producciones de Hollywood. Aunque físicamente no se parece a Rosa Peral. La actriz hace gala de su talento para tener el magnetismo del personaje real. Su interpretación de Rosa es excelente, dándonos vueltas en la cabeza mientras intentamos desentrañar lo que tiene en mente y las razones de su comportamiento.
El personaje es fascinante. Con un comportamiento que la prensa aprovechó para pintarla como una femme fatale, proviene de una familia funcional, que recibió amor y tuvo todo lo que quiso. ¿Cuál era su vacío? Las relaciones que tuvo al mismo tiempo, infidelidades y mentiras. ¿Buscaba el amor? ¿Sólo placer? No sólo los hombres se comportan así, es otro punto a tener en cuenta.
El resto del reparto cumple con creces las interpretaciones requeridas. Quim Guttierrez destaca en el papel de Albert Lopez. Hace suyo el personaje, infundiéndole esa fuerza que posee el Albert de la vida real. Por cierto, el verdadero Albert ha escrito un libro donde cuenta su versión de los hechos. El actor José Manuel Poga interpreta a Pedro Rodríguez, el policía de tráfico que se enamora perdidamente, dejando atrás a su familia. Reconocerás al actor por su personaje más famoso: Gandía, en La Casa de Papel. Algo que me parece curioso es que Corbero tuvo escenas de pasión muy calientes con Quim e incluso con Raúl Prieto, pero no con este actor. Me parece extraño...

Tanto la miniserie como el documental no han sido bien recibidos por la verdadera Rosa Peral, volviendo a estar en los titulares de la prensa en los últimos días, algo que le ha venido muy bien a Netflix,
El Cuerpo en Llamas es un true crime español con una ursula Corbero fenomenal. Un crimen que ya tiene a algunos culpables en prisión, pero aún quedan preguntas sin respuesta.
