Don't Worry Darling I saw it some time ago, but I had been lazy to write. The media and social networks were filled with information about actress and director Olivia Wilde's alleged problems with Florence Pugh, star of the film.
Added to that was more gossip about Shia LaBeouf's firing, which he denied saying he had quit. The character was assigned to Harry Styles, who is reportedly in a relationship with Wilde. Everything became a soap opera with a lot of melodrama, where everything was examined in detail by the judges of the social networks, talking about alleged spitting from Harry to Chris Pine when the film was screened at the festival, culminating with the attendance of Pugh to the event, being applauded, for something this is Hollywood and everything that happened could well serve to write the script of another movie.
What would life be without drama? Especially when the people involved are rich and famous, the public's morbid curiosity increases, it gives pleasure to the average citizen to read about fights, insults, romances, infidelities and secrets. It takes those celebrities off the pedestal and puts them on the same level as friends or relatives who live in constant drama and fights.
Before the celebrity gossip magazines were a best seller, the tabloids that are still sold in some first world countries are also widely consumed by ordinary people, and now all those dramas we enjoy through the internet and their social networks, bringing us even closer to those celebrities, so that we realize that just like everyone else, they live in drama, only they have more money than we do.
What would happen during that shooting? What is true and what is a lie about what was said on social networks? There is a lot of information and tweets about it, if you want to find out in depth and draw your own conclusions, I invite you to explore the internet. There is some truth, but also some lies, you decide what to believe.
Before I offer you my opinion and what for me is the worst mistake of the movie, I will explain without spoilers the premise of the movie.
Don't Worry Darling la vi hace tiempo, pero me había dado pereza escribir. Los medios de comunicación y las redes sociales se llenaron de información sobre los supuestos problemas de la actriz y directora Olivia Wilde con Florence Pugh, protagonista de la película.
A eso se sumaron más cotilleos sobre el despido de Shia LaBeouf, que él desmintió diciendo que había renunciado. El personaje le fue asignado a Harry Styles, que al parecer mantiene una relación con Wilde. Todo se convirtió en un culebrón con mucho melodrama, donde todo era examinado al detalle por los jueces de las redes sociales, hablando de supuestos escupitajos de Harry a Chris Pine cuando la película se proyectaba en el festival de Venecia, culminando con la asistencia de Pugh al evento, siendo aplaudida, por algo esto es Hollywood y todo lo sucedido bien podría servir para escribir el guión de otra película.
¿Qué sería de la vida sin drama? Sobre todo cuando los implicados son gente rica y famosa, la curiosidad morbosa del público aumenta, da placer al ciudadano de a pie leer sobre peleas, insultos, romances, infidelidades y secretos. Baja a esos famosos del pedestal y los pone al mismo nivel que amigos o familiares que viven en constante drama y peleas.
Antes las revistas de cotilleos de famosos eran un éxito de ventas, los tabloides que aún se venden en algunos países del primer mundo también son muy consumidos por la gente de a pie, y ahora todos esos dramas los disfrutamos a través de internet y sus redes sociales, acercándonos aún más a esos famosos, para que nos demos cuenta de que al igual que todos, viven en un drama, sólo que ellos tienen más dinero que nosotros.
¿Qué pasaría durante ese rodaje? ¿Qué es verdad y qué es mentira de lo que se dijo en las redes sociales? Hay mucha información y tuits al respecto, si quieres enterarte a fondo y sacar tus propias conclusiones, te invito a explorar internet. Algo de verdad hay, pero también algo de mentira, tú decides qué creer.
Antes de darles mi opinión y lo que para mí es el peor error de la película, explicaré sin spoilers la premisa.
What is the plot of the film?
A community in the middle of the American desert during the fifties, is home to a group of families, where all the men are working for Project Victory, a company that seems to be building something important. There live Jack and Alice Chambers, who like all their neighbors, seem to lead an incredible life, their husbands have important jobs, all are devoted and dedicated housewives, that place seems a dream paradise, without dangers, all know each other and firmly believe in Frank, the leader of the project that has given them the opportunity to lead a comfortable life full of happiness. Only certain rules must be followed, not to approach or explore a part of the desert, it can be dangerous. Some strange events with one of her neighbors and some brief memories that come to Alice's mind, will make her ask herself questions about her life and what is happening in that place. What are those memories? What is the Victoria project? What are they building? What is the leader of that idyllic community hiding? Alice is not prepared to discover the raw and terrible truth.

Una comunidad en medio del desierto americano durante los años cincuenta, es el hogar de un grupo de familias, donde todos los hombres están trabajan para el Proyecto Victoria, una empresa que parece estar construyendo algo importante. Allí viven Jack y Alice Chambers, que como todos sus vecinos, parecen llevar una vida increíble, sus maridos tienen importantes trabajos, todas son abnegadas y entregadas amas de casa, aquel lugar parece un paraíso de ensueño, sin peligros, todos se conocen y creen firmemente en Frank, el líder del proyecto que les ha dado la oportunidad de llevar una vida cómoda y llena de felicidad. Sólo hay que seguir ciertas reglas, no acercarse o explorar una parte del desierto, puede ser peligroso. Unos extraños sucesos con uno de sus vecinos y unos breves recuerdos que acuden a la mente de Alice, harán que se haga preguntas sobre su vida y lo que ocurre en ese lugar. ¿Qué son esos recuerdos? ¿Qué es el proyecto Victoria? ¿Qué están construyendo? ¿Qué esconde el líder de esa idílica comunidad? Alice no está preparada para descubrir la cruda y terrible verdad.
Why was I so lazy to talk about this movie?
The story written by three screenwriters has many similarities with movies already seen about idyllic communities that seem that not everything is as nice as it seems. Despite this, there is something that makes it attractive, a careful and well elaborated setting in the North America of the fifties, in the middle of that desert. At times it reminded me of the Manhattan project, where a town was built for the scientists working on the atomic bomb to live near the facility.
The concept of the story is appealing and had a lot of potential, unfortunately Wilde's direction is somewhat uneven in the moments of creating intrigue and making us interested in the mystery surrounding that place. There are sequences that are better crafted and it is thanks to Florence Pugh's performance that they manage to stand out. She is an actress capable of filling the screen with charisma and making any character believable.
What could have been a remarkable work of science fiction with touches of the horror genre, ends up being an extremely radical feminist pamphlet where the discourse that all men are bad and women are all good is continued.
I'm tired of this whole matrix of opinion fed by non-art guidelines to reflect bad men in this kind of stories. Toxic masculinity, that's what they call it and every time I read it in a news or movie article on the internet, it gives me a headache. We can't see the world in black and white, the world is full of colors and shades. Doesn't toxic femininity exist? Of course it exists. I will talk about it in another post. In the world there is good and evil, it doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman, both can be heroes or villains.
That's why, at the end of the movie, I was so lazy to talk about it that I preferred to wait for all the hype of its release to pass. An ending that I saw the seams, some important things were left unexplained. I can't reveal that ending, because it would destroy the whole viewing of the film, but when you see it, I hope you will understand my disappointment and if they had not focused everything against the man, the work could have been even more interesting.
¿Por qué me daba pereza hablar de esta película?
La historia escrita por tres guionistas tiene muchas similitudes con películas ya vistas sobre comunidades idílicas que parece que no todo es tan bonito como parece. A pesar de ello, hay algo que la hace atractiva, una cuidada y bien elaborada ambientación en la Norteamérica de los años cincuenta, en medio de ese desierto. Por momentos me recordó al proyecto Manhattan, donde se construyó un pueblo para que los científicos que trabajaban en la bomba atómica vivieran cerca de las instalaciones.
El concepto de la historia es atractivo y tenía mucho potencial, desgraciadamente la dirección de Wilde es algo irregular en los momentos de crear intriga y hacer que nos interesemos por el misterio que rodea aquel lugar. Hay secuencias que están mejor elaboradas y es gracias a la interpretación de Florence Pugh que consiguen destacar. Es una actriz capaz de llenar la pantalla de carisma y hacer creíble cualquier personaje.
Lo que podría haber sido una notable obra de ciencia ficción con toques del género de terror, acaba siendo un panfleto feminista extremadamente radical donde se continúa con el discurso de que todos los hombres son malos.
Estoy cansado de toda esta matriz de opinión alimentada por directrices ajenas al arte, para reflejar hombres malos en este tipo de historias. Masculinidad tóxica, así lo llaman y cada vez que lo leo en una noticia o en un artículo de cine en internet, me da dolor de cabeza. No podemos ver el mundo en blanco y negro, el mundo está lleno de colores y matices. ¿No existe la feminidad tóxica? Por supuesto que existe. Hablaré de ello en otro post. En el mundo existe el bien y el mal, no importa si eres hombre o mujer, ambos pueden ser héroes o villanos.
Es por ello que, al final de la película, me daba tanta pereza hablar de ella que preferí esperar a que pasara todo el revuelo de su estreno. Un final al que le vi las costuras, algunas cosas importantes quedaron sin explicar. No puedo desvelar ese final, porque destrozaría todo el visionado de la película, pero cuando la veas, espero entiendas mi decepción y si no lo hubieran enfocado todo contra el hombre, la obra podría haber sido aún más interesante.
Just because I was angry about the ending and the fact that they put the whole male gender as the bad guys of the show, doesn't mean that the movie is bad. I know a lot of people will like it, some sequences are well constructed and can be exciting, the bad thing is that they take too long to get there, stretching the story with scenes that are repeated several times, instead of unraveling the mystery with more skill. Good thing Florence Pugh stars in the film, it's she who keeps the ship afloat.
I can't say the same for Harry Styles, I couldn't believe his character, I feel sorry for the girls (and guys) who are fans of this singer and actor, but I'd rather he stayed singing. The irony of the case, is that in this feminist plea Wilde makes, he selects the person he seems to have had a relationship with, instead of looking for an actor with more of a track record and who had real chemistry with Florence.
Chris Pine seems to me totally wasted, limiting himself to reciting his parts of the dialogue, finding us before a genius, his character is the leader of the project, that is, he is a mastermind who manages that community and whatever they are building in that place, but there are many cracks that are exploited by Alice's character and even he does not realize that he has the enemy at home.
A mind as brilliant as his character's must have a plan A, B, C and D in case he skips any protocol, plus he apparently has absolute control of everything that happens, a kind of big brother who must be watching everything, but again, that ending that seeks to be gimmicky and leave the viewer with his jaw unhinged, spoils it.
The most positive thing about the film is Florence Pugh's performance, those moments when she is hesitant, even annoyed at being looked at as if she is losing her mind, even though she herself is not sure what is real or not. She just knows she saw disturbing things and no matter how much they try to convince her that it is a figment of her imagination, stress, etc. she knows something is wrong and she will be the only one who will be more determined to uncover the secret hidden in that community.
Que me haya enfadado el final y que metan a todo el género masculino como los malos de la función, no quiere decir que la película sea mala. Sé que gustará a mucha gente, algunas secuencias están bien construidas y pueden ser emocionantes, lo malo es que tardan demasiado en llegar, alargando la historia con escenas que se repiten varias veces, en lugar de desentrañar el misterio con más habilidad. Menos mal que Florence Pugh protagoniza la película, es ella quien mantiene el barco a flote.
No puedo decir lo mismo de Harry Styles, no me podía creer su personaje, lo siento por las chicas (y chicos) que son fans de este cantante y actor, pero preferiría que se quedara cantando. Lo irónico del caso, es que en este alegato feminista que hace Wilde, selecciona a la persona con la que parece que tuvo una relación, en vez de buscar a un actor con más trayectoria y que tuviera verdadera química con Florence.
Chris Pine me parece totalmente desaprovechado, limitándose a recitar sus partes del diálogo, encontrándonos ante un genio, su personaje es el líder del proyecto, es decir, es una mente maestra que maneja esa comunidad y lo que sea que estén construyendo en ese lugar, pero hay muchas grietas que son aprovechadas por el personaje de Alice y ni siquiera él se da cuenta de que tiene al enemigo en casa.
Una mente tan brillante como la de su personaje, debe tener un plan A, B, C y D por si se salta algún protocolo, además de que aparentemente tiene un control absoluto de todo lo que ocurre, una especie de gran hermano que debe estar vigilándolo todo, pero de nuevo, ese final que busca ser efectista y dejar al espectador con la mandíbula desencajada, lo estropea.
Lo más positivo de la película es la interpretación de Florence Pugh, esos momentos en los que se muestra dubitativa, incluso molesta porque la miren como si estuviera perdiendo la cabeza, aunque ella misma no esté segura de lo que es real o no. Sólo sabe que vio cosas inquietantes y por mucho que intenten convencerla de que es producto de su imaginación, estrés, etc. sabe que algo no va bien y será la única que tendrá más determinación para descubrir el secreto que esconden en esa comunidad.
**Don't Worry Darling is a film that at times is entertaining, its initial premise had everything to be a work n, but for me it does not end up working at all by an irregular pace and that final message that collapses the good of the story.**Although it was not to my total liking, I recommend you to see it and value it from your point of view. As a film lover, I hope Wilde knows how to correct her mistakes for the next productions, I think she is a talented filmmaker.

Don't Worry Darling es una película que por momentos es entretenida, su premisa inicial tenía todo para ser una obra notable, pero para mí no termina de funcionar del todo por un ritmo irregular y ese mensaje final que derrumba lo bueno de la historia. Aunque no fue de mi total agrado, te recomiendo que la veas y la valores desde tu punto de vista. Como amante del cine, espero que Wilde sepa corregir sus errores para las próximas producciones, creo que es una cineasta con talento.
