Suspense and psychological terror from Luxembourg, that's what the film Skin Walker offers. What caught my attention was the film's place of origin. I've seen very few films from that country, so I decided to see it, to give my opinion.

What's the plot of Skin Walker?
Regine lives in the city, works in a factory and enjoys nightlife with her boyfriend, with whom she plans to start a family. One day she receives a visit from a man from her hometown, who informs her that her grandmother was killed and that they were cheated, and tells her that he is the father of her brother Isaac. The man suspects that it was Isaac who killed the grandmother, in revenge for what happened in the past. Regine is affected by this visit and after visiting her mother, who is in a nursing home, she decides to return to the village where her father is, to meet again with the ghosts of the past.

This happens in the first five minutes of the film, it's not a spoiler, it's a synopsis of the beginning of the film. From this moment on I won't say anything important about the plot, because to enjoy the story, you have to pay attention to the film.
We'll realize that something is wrong with Regina's character. She's a young woman who seems to be a little off in the head. Something happened in her house in the past, to tell about it, we will be shown brief flashbacks throughout the film. This resource may tire us a bit, but they want to tell the story slowly.
It's a slow-paced film, but as it reaches its final part, it speeds up a bit. I have no problem with films that take their time to develop the story, I like a slow pace if it helps to understand the plot better. But there are viewers who don't have patience for slow films, they can get bored and then say the film is bad.
That's why I warn you that it's a slow film, if you can't stand this kind of film, don't watch it. You'll get bored, you won't be able to stand its first half hour. Find another movie according to what fascinates you. Skin Walker is for people who enjoy simmering stories.

Skin Walker's aesthetics are one of his greatest attributes. The film's director manages to create disturbing scenes. Although the story, which begins in a powerful way, loses that strength when we realize what the result will be and what is really happening.
There are several situations that seemed absurd to me, the reactions of some characters to the protagonist's behaviour didn't make any sense to me. But the same kind of facts and reactions are common in the films of this genre. I was aware of what I was seeing, so I focused my attention on enjoying the visual section.
The film's director and screenwriter is Christian Neuman, a young filmmaker who has previously made short films in the horror genre. Skin Walker is his first feature film in this genre, because he has also made some documentaries. But the filmmaker is a complete artist, with experience as a visual artist and together with a designer, he founded a fashion firm a few years ago, where Gothic style designs predominate. The protagonist of the film wears some of those designs. It is also touching that the visual aspect of the film is very well done. The costumes and the setting are great. The cast includes the name of a legend of horror films, German actor Udo Kier, who has an extensive career with countless titles in the genre, exploitation films and even a book and a video clip of Madonna. He is one of Lars Von Trier's fetish actors, with whom he has worked many times. The actor plays Regina's father, Claus. Each of his screen appearances gives the feeling that something is wrong. He is an actor who manages to convey a bad vibe with just one look.
English actress Amber Anderson is the star of the film. She plays the tormented Regina, a young woman who seems to be on the verge of madness. The constant memories of the past make her act abnormally. The actress has participated in several series and films, the most important of which was released this year, the adaptation of Jane Austen's novel: Emma. I haven't seen that movie and I don't know what character Amber Anderson plays. But her performance in Skin Walker makes her worthy of attention, she is a good actress, time will tell if she manages to do more important things in the future.

The film is a psychological horror thriller that will delight fans of this style. One of today's most successful psychological horror directors is Ari Aster, who got a lot of credit for his film Hereditary. The director of Skin Walker must surely be a fan of Aster's work. I don't think Hereditary is a great film, I respect the opinion of other viewers who classify it as a masterpiece of the genre. I just watch them and enjoy the disturbing scenes, I like the aesthetics of those scenes that seek to convey the madness of some of the characters.
I only recommend this film if you're a lover of slow-paced psychological horror films, with attractive visual elements.
