Tenía muchísimas ganas de verla porque soy súper fan de los libros y la lectura, así que le tenía la lupa puesta a esta adaptación desde hace tiempo. Hoy quiero compartirles mi reseña y análisis sincero de lo que me pareció. Les dejé mi análisis completo en este post, ¡espero que lo disfruten!
Hello, everyone in the Scrobble.life community! I’m so happy to be back here. Yesterday I finally sat down to watch The Hypothesis of Love, the movie that just premiered on Prime Video. I was really looking forward to seeing it because I’m a huge fan of books and reading, so I’ve been keeping a close eye on this adaptation for a while now. Today I want to share my review and honest analysis of what I thought of it. I’ve posted my full analysis in this post—I hope you enjoy it!
La historia nos presenta a Olive Smith, una joven brillante que entra a la Universidad de Stanford para cursar su doctorado en ciencias biológicas y poder desarrollar un proyecto de investigación muy importante para ella. Allí construye un bonito grupo con sus mejores amigos, pero las cosas se complican un poco cuando intenta convencer a su mejor amiga de que ya superó un viejo flechazo para que ella pueda salir con él. Para salir del apuro y probar que "ya paso página", Olive besa impulsivamente al primer hombre que se cruza en su camino en el laboratorio. El problema es que ese hombre resulta ser el Dr. Adam Carlsen, un profesor de neurociencias famoso en todo el campus por ser extremadamente estricto y el auténtico terror de los estudiantes.
The story introduces us to Olive Smith, a brilliant young woman who enrolls at Stanford University to pursue a Ph.D. in biological sciences and work on a research project that’s very important to her. There, she forms a close-knit group with her best friends, but things get a little complicated when she tries to convince her best friend that she’s moved on from an old crush so that her friend can go out with him. To get out of a tight spot and prove that she’s “moved on,” Olive impulsively kisses the first man who crosses her path in the lab. The problem is that this man turns out to be Dr. Adam Carlsen, a neuroscience professor famous across campus for being extremely strict and the students’ worst nightmare.
Empezando por los protagonistas, debo decir que el trabajo de Lili Reinhart y Tom Bateman me pareció sencillamente espectacular. Amo a Lili Reinhart, es una de mis actrices favoritas de siempre, así que verla darle vida a un personaje que ya apreciaba tanto desde los libros fue una experiencia hermosísima. Lili tiene una expresividad increíble; su mirada transmite una nostalgia y una vulnerabilidad tan reales que era imposible no conectar con todo lo que atravesaba Olive en la pantalla. Logró transmitir cada una de sus emociones de una forma súper genuina.
Starting with the lead actors, I have to say that I thought Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman’s performances were simply spectacular. I love Lili Reinhart—she’s always been one of my favorite actresses—so seeing her bring to life a character I already loved so much from the books was a truly wonderful experience. Lili is incredibly expressive; her gaze conveys such genuine nostalgia and vulnerability that it was impossible not to connect with everything Olive was going through on screen. She managed to convey each of her emotions in a truly authentic way.
Por otro lado, la química que construyó con Tom Bateman fue sencillamente el punto fuerte de la película. Sé que cuando anunciaron la selección del elenco a muchas personas no les terminó de convencer la elección de Tom para el papel, pero sinceramente creo que calló bocas. Supo capturar y transmitir la esencia exacta de Adam Carlsen, esa presencia imponente, seria y reservada que tiene en el libro, pero que al mismo tiempo deja ver la calidez que siente por Olive. La mirada entre ellos dos y la soltura con la que actuaron juntos fue un acierto total. Tuvieron una sintonía tan fluida que nada se sintió forzado, seco ni incómodo de ver; al contrario, era una dinámica súper agradable que te envuelve por completo. Para mí, esta pareja de actores logró plasmar la esencia de la historia de una forma impresionante, y ver esa conexión en pantalla fue algo que disfruté y amé de principio a fin.
On the other hand, the chemistry she built with Tom Bateman was simply the film’s strongest point. I know that when the cast was announced, many people weren’t entirely convinced by the choice of Tom for the role, but I honestly think he proved his critics wrong. He knew how to capture and convey the exact essence of Adam Carlsen—that imposing, serious, and reserved presence he has in the book—while at the same time revealing the warmth he feels for Olive. The way they looked at each other and the ease with which they acted together was a total success. Their chemistry was so natural that nothing felt forced, stilted, or awkward to watch; on the contrary, it was a wonderfully pleasant dynamic that completely draws you in. For me, this acting duo managed to capture the essence of the story in an impressive way, and seeing that connection on screen was something I enjoyed and loved from start to finish.

El resto del elenco secundario también me gustó muchísimo; siento que literalmente capturaron el espíritu de la historia. Como lectora, estoy súper clara de que las adaptaciones cinematográficas casi nunca van a ser idénticas al libro de principio a fin. Sé perfectamente que por dinámicas de la industria siempre van a existir cambios en la apariencia de algunos personajes, en el ritmo o en ciertas escenas. Sin embargo, lo que más me fascinó de esta película es que, a pesar de esas modificaciones, la historia conservó su esencia original intacta. La buena vibración, el humor y la calidez que te transmite la novela están completamente presentes en la pantalla. La comunicación entre todos los personajes se sintió súper fluida y bonita, y los escenarios acompañaron muy bien esa vibra académica y romántica. En general, el trabajo de todo el reparto fue sumamente agradable de ver y le hizo un honor bellísimo a lo que el libro busca transmitir.
I also really liked the rest of the supporting cast; I feel like they literally captured the spirit of the story. As a reader, I’m fully aware that film adaptations are almost never going to be identical to the book from start to finish. I know full well that, due to industry dynamics, there will always be changes in the appearance of some characters, the pacing, or certain scenes. However, what fascinated me most about this movie is that, despite those modifications, the story kept its original essence intact. The good vibes, humor, and warmth that the novel conveys are fully present on screen. The interactions between all the characters felt incredibly fluid and lovely, and the settings perfectly complemented that academic and romantic vibe. Overall, the entire cast’s performance was a joy to watch and did a beautiful job of honoring what the book sets out to convey.
Hablando un poco más a fondo sobre la historia y lo que transmite la situación de los personajes, hay un aspecto en el análisis que me parece fundamental resaltar: el papel de la mujer en el ámbito científico y académico. Sé que hoy en día se abren muchas puertas para nosotras en la ciencia y en el desarrollo tecnológico, lo cual nos brinda grandes oportunidades de estudio y trabajo. Sin embargo, la historia refleja muy bien esa realidad donde las mujeres en la academia todavía se chocan contra barreras o personas que intentan frenar sus sueños y desvalorizar su trabajo. Es algo bastante amargo, pero es una realidad que muchas siguen viviendo. Para mí, leer esta historia en el libro y luego verla reflejada de forma tan fiel en la pantalla fue una total inspiración. Me dejó muchísimas enseñanzas y me hizo ver el panorama del mundo científico desde otra perspectiva. Ver cómo mantuvieron intacto ese mensaje central en la película es algo que valoro muchísimo como espectadora.
Speaking a little more in depth about the story and what the characters’ situations convey, there is one aspect of the analysis that I think is essential to highlight: the role of women in the scientific and academic fields. I know that today many doors are opening for us in science and technological development, which provides us with great opportunities for study and work. However, the story vividly reflects a reality in which women in academia still face barriers or people who try to hold back their dreams and devalue their work. It’s quite disheartening, but it’s a reality that many continue to experience. For me, reading this story in the book and then seeing it so faithfully brought to life on screen was a total inspiration. It taught me so much and made me see the scientific world from a different perspective. Seeing how they kept that central message intact in the movie is something I value immensely as a viewer.
Como fanática de los libros y de las comedias románticas, debo decir que tenía muchísimo tiempo sin ver una rom-com tan buena. Que además sea la adaptación de uno de mis libros favoritos lo hace súper emocionante. Para mí es un total 10 de 10. No tengo ninguna queja ni nada malo que decir; aunque hubo pequeños cambios, adiciones y recortes, la película es simplemente hermosa y un acierto absoluto. Se la recomiendo con los ojos cerrados a cualquier persona que busque disfrutar de una comedia romántica bonita, emotiva y muy bien lograda. ¡Espero que les haya gustado mucho mi post y nos vemos en la próxima!
As a fan of books and romantic comedies, I have to say it’s been a really long time since I’ve seen a rom-com this good. The fact that it’s also an adaptation of one of my favorite books makes it super exciting. For me, it’s a solid 10 out of 10. I have absolutely no complaints or negative things to say; even though there were some minor changes, additions, and cuts, the movie is simply beautiful and a total success. I’d recommend it without hesitation to anyone looking to enjoy a lovely, heartfelt, and very well-made romantic comedy. I hope you really enjoyed my post, and I’ll see you next time
