How are all of you fellow Hive gamers doing today? I like posting about old games that were impossible to beat from my childhood where I come back and smash them using a few cheats like save states and rewinding time and today I'd like to share my failure at clearing Arkanoid.
I don't have a data plan or even a SIM card in my phone because I'm usually never without WIFI. I typically visit the same restaurants and they all have WIFI so there's no need for mobile data. I feel like it's a scam anyways.
My dog Rapper got the dog next door pregnant and she had seven puppies. Some of them really look like their dad right? We usually get our dogs neutered in America, but it's not common in Laos so this is the first time I've had granddogs.
My wife wanted to go shopping at the morning market in Luang Prabang. There wasn't one single thing I liked there so I stayed behind with my dog, watched our bikes, and knocked out a few more levels of Arkanoid.
I wonder if Star Trek got their inspiration from this game with the movie about the Borg going back in time and disrupting our timeline.
I'm really looking forward to the day when we can simply think to control our games or digital art, but until then I'll have to settle for these clumsy on-screen controls. Steve Jobs may have thought he was doing the world a service by getting rid of buttons, but he wasn't thinking about gamers. There are some games like Mario where it isn't possible to enjoy the game this way because you need to hold the B button to run and jump or hold turtles and jump, but Arkanoid only uses the left and right buttons, and sometimes the A button so it's a good game for this kind of on-screen controller.
I thought I would be able to clear this game with the ability to rewind time but I was wrong. It would be a lot better if it would rewind with just the touch of a button, but with this emulator, you have to go to the menu and decide how far back you want to go. It can only go back for about 7 seconds so if you get in a serious jam even this cheat can not save you.
The arcade had 99 levels and the NES version which I was emulating had 36. I only made it about halfway before it was no longer fun and was just too frustrating. Anyone who cleared this back in the arcade days surely had a bunch of quarters ready. I really like it when you get the power-up that duplicates the ball into three or the one that lets you shoot the blocks. If you have an emulator that can slow down time then I think you could clear this, but I didn't see it in my emulator's options. Maybe it's something that only works when you give them money.
This was a great game when it came out even though it was a Breakout clone and is still fun to play today. Even though I didn't make it to the end I still had fun trying. Thanks for reminiscing about Arkanoid with me today. Have a good one!
