Why I Loved: Rise of Rey

Review by @jeremiahcustis · 2402d · of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I really loved this one. The Empire Strikes Back will always be my favorite, but this is one of my favorites now. The previous could've been called: The WORST Jedi. Some people blame Rey for Disney's feminist agenda or for her ease at mastering the Force, but she is the Jedi I'd most want to meet.

Luke will always be one of my heroes, but I'll never forget the look of fear in his eyes when Rey raised his own lightsaber against him.

This Jedi with the purple lightsaber deserves his own anything. Stand alone film, trilogy, TV show, video game, or even animated show are all things I'd pay to see with him.

I'm in Laos where they don't have theaters and if they did, they wouldn't show Star Wars, so I had no choice but to watch this on my PC with horrible Chinese subtitles all alone. It's not how I wanted to enjoy the final movie, but I was sick of avoiding YouTube and the news. It was such a good film I forgot about the low quality of my illegal download and my friends inviting me to go dancing for the 2020 countdown. I scored some nerd points there right?

I loved Star Wars: The Final Movie. I would give it two thumbs up with 5 stars on each thumb. It broke my heart not seeing it with my kids, but I know they thought of me when they watched it too. I have spoken.

I got all of the photos from here: https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-jedi-voices-heres-/2900-3318/ It was pretty interesting to see a list of all the voices.

They have no cinemas in Laos? Surely they have some in the capitol, but you don't live there if i remember correctly.

I thought the first of the Disney makes was pretty great and if they had carried on in that style it would have been fine. Rogue One was fantastic in that it was a bit darker than we are used to with the Star Wars Universe, however the 2nd one was ridiculous and one of (many) reasons why I disliked it was the ease in which Rey overpowers Luke. He's supposed to be a mentor and the best there is and not just this one defeat, but his character presentation in total was that of a washed up weakling.

I wouldn't say I hated the last one, but when it was over, I was happy it was over, and I am glad they are not going to make any more in the series. As a life-long Star Wars fan whose first cinematic experience EVER was "A New Hope" saying that I don't want them to make any more, kind of sums up my overall disdain for what has happened since the original trilogy.

However, I do think that A lot of the lack of appeal the films have for me now is the fact that CGI isn't special anymore since anyone with money can get it. The original trilogy was so epic because of how painstakingly difficult it was to get those effects into films - we need to factor that in.
