Hola amantes de las películas y series, en esta ocasión quiero comentar para toda la comunidad una película que quizás muchos recuerden, sobre todo, a aquellos espectadores que les agradan los guiones llenos de muertos vivientes. Sin dudas, los zombis en la actualidad forman parte de nuestra cultura, los vemos desde los videojuegos hasta sutilmente en programas infantiles, es un producto que atrae millones de miradas alrededor del mundo y es uno de los temas en que el cine siempre estará presente.
En este caso no voy a opinar sobre una película reciente, de hecho, Guerra Mundial Z cumplirá 10 años de su estreno en el 2023, por lo cual es una producción que tal vez muchos conozcan, sobre todo, aquellos amantes de las películas de zombis, sin embargo, mi deseo es comentar sobre ciertas características interesantes tanto en su narrativa como en su aspecto visual que se diferencian de una película de zombi común.
Debido a que es una película que ya tiene varios años desde su estreno, me permitiré compartir con ustedes algunas características interesantes sobre el argumento y su desarrollo, sin embargo, no ahondaré sobre información sobre la trama o el final de la película, así espero no arruinar la experiencia de algún usuario que no haya podido ver este film, ¡comencemos!
Sinopsis:
Gerry Lane es enviado por la ONU con la importante misión de rastrear el origen de la enfermedad que convierte a las personas en muertos vivientes. Para evitar el exterminio de la raza humana deberá encontrar pistas alrededor del mundo y enfrentarse cara a cara con estas creaturas hambrientas por saborear carne humana. El destino de la humanidad pende de un hilo y solo la salvará investigar como combatir el virus.
Análisis de la Película
Esta película es basada en su novela homónima publicada en el 2006, un éxito literario que, como es costumbre para Hollywood, se adquirieron los derechos para realizar un film basado esa estructura argumental. En lo particular no he leído esa novela y mi opinión iría enfocada directamente en el filme y las características que se presentan allí. Como curiosidad debo decir que la persona que decidió trasladar el texto a la gran pantalla fue su mismo protagonista, Brad Pitt y su propia casa productora son los dueños de esta franquicia y que como veremos más adelante fue una decisión verdaderamente acertada
Características del Film
Zombis
La característica más relevante de esta película es que se introduce en el género de los muertos vivientes, sin embargo, hoy en día existen tantas películas de zombis que podemos comparar las características de los zombis de Guerra Mundial Z con otras producciones y diferenciarla tanto por el comportamiento de los muertos vivientes como de las características propias de virus.
Virus:
Es algo que hemos escuchado y visto en innumerables películas, la combinación de la palabra virus y zombis para propiciar un escenario lógico y darle cabida al argumento que otorgue la razón de existir a los muertos vivientes, de alguna manera esta relación hace que sea más creíble, sin embargo, el cine no ha adaptado nuevas y creativas razones por la cual un apocalipsis zombi surgiera. A pesar de ello, en el cine cada virus es distinto y posee características únicas en cada película.
Transmisión:
Este puede ser el virus más agresivo con la humanidad de todo el séptimo arte y el convertir a las personas en zombis no es necesariamente el factor que más cause miedo, es su transmisión. Al ser infectado por el virus mediante la mordida de una persona infectada, este patógeno tardará tan solo 12 segundos en convertir a un nuevo zombi que buscará inmediatamente a otra persona sana para morder y así cumplir con una propagación exponencial atemorizante.
Esta característica de los 12 segundos es vital para comprender la película y tener una estructura narrativa que pueda permitir el deceso de millones de personas en un periodo muy corto de tiempo. Al observar la película podemos intuir que, al llegar a un punto de la misma, alrededor del 70% de la humanidad son zombis unas semanas luego del primer brote, algo que si lo pensamos muy bien es sumamente terrorífico.
Zombis Buscan Infectar, No Comer
Si detallamos esta película y la comparamos con otras producciones sobre zombis, descubriremos un rasgo que se sale de un guion típico de las primeras películas y otras producciones de Hollywood. Cuando se nombra a los zombis en el cine, pensamos que tienen hambre de carne, pero no cualquier carne, al parecer les perece de mejor sabor la carne humana y, sobre todo, los sesos, sin embargo, los zombis de Guerra Mundial Z no devoran a sus víctimas, simplemente las muerden salvajemente para infectarlas, 12 segundos después aparece otro compañero zombi para continuar con la jornada.
En otras películas observamos que los zombis devoran las entrañas de sus víctimas, algo que causa miedo sin dudas, pero aquel que es completamente devorado no podrá convertirse en un nuevo muerto viviente, podríamos decir que mientras se comen las entrañas de una victima desafortunada hay algo de tiempo para correr y esconderse, en Guerra Mundial Z no existe esa ventaja ya que los zombis buscaran infectar la mayor cantidad de personas posibles y hacer que club de los muertos vivientes siga creciendo.
El comportamiento de estos zombis, sin dudas es algo interesante, que al tener como prioridad el transmitir el virus, que comer, hace que en las escenas disminuya la sangre, pero aumenten en gran número las hordas de zombis.
Movimiento
Recuerdo la primera película de zombi que vi, lentos, apenas caminaban y con un su quejido típico se acercaban a su víctima para devorarla. Esta lentitud significaba una ventaja para escapar o evadirlos mientras que con un torpe movimiento intentaban alcanzar su cena. En Guerra Mundial Z los zombis parecen atletas olímpicos de velocidad, corren y saltan de una manera sobrehumana y si a eso le adicionamos lo anteriormente expuesto sobre la transmisión de los 12 segundos todo se vuelve un coctel realmente catastrófico.
Aunque podemos llegar a pensar que este tipo de zombi tiene un mejor racionamiento, su comportamiento siempre será el de buscar la mejor opción de infectar, aunque signifique sacrificarse. Observamos en el tráiler que estos zombis son capaces de hacer una gran pila en forma de escalera, con la finalidad de escalar muros o llegar a puntos altos. Aunque no tienen ninguna organización aprovechan cualquier circunstancia para cumplir su objetivo, aunque eso signifique escalar sobre el cuerpo de otros zombis.
¿Cómo Viaja el Virus?
No quiero adentrarme mucho en este aspecto, sin embargo, estos zombis tienen la capacidad de quedarse quietos por mucho tiempo pudiéndose esconder dentro de por ejemplo un avión y volar desapercibido hasta otro continente, al tener el efecto multiplicador anteriormente mencionado, solamente hace falta que un zombi se encuentre en la bodega de carga de un avión para crear un desastre a nivel continental.
Aunque a esta lógica le falta desarrollarse, la película no se expresa muy bien sobre este asunto, por lo cual asumo que esa puede ser una de las principales causas de contagio intercontinental, aunque posiblemente el libro arroje más pistas al respecto.
Aspecto de los Zombis
Otra característica que normalmente encontramos en las típicas películas de muertos vivientes es el zombi lleno de sangre, con partes de su cuerpo y rostro comidos o podridos, con un aspecto más grotesco, en Guerra Mundial Z los zombis son sorprendentemente limpios, no hay mucha sangre en ellos y su aspecto aunque terrífico no recurre a la sangre para transmitir el miedo, aunque opino que la sangre es esencial para este tipo de películas, hay escenas donde el zombi parece llevar simplemente una máscara y ese aspecto no es tan terrorífico como en otras películas.
¿Sangre?
A diferencia de otras películas de zombis la sangre no solo falta en los rostros de los zombis sino en la película en general, no hay escenas sangrientas ni de heridas abiertas que impacten, es de inferir que es una característica que ha impuesto la productora para llegar a más personas, sobreponiendo el terror enfocada en la horda de zombi que en su aspecto o la sangre en escenas de gore, creo que es algo arriesgado pero la película lleva muy bien su desarrollo y la lluvia de sangre no es necesaria en su contexto.
Brad Pitt Triunfa
Esta afirmación no es referente a su personaje dentro de la película, claro que no, es en referencia a que Plan B Entertainment, su casa productora tuvo un presupuesto exorbitante en esta gran apuesta de muertos vivientes, pero, pudo tener un jugoso margen de ganancias. Desde un presupuesto de 190 millones hasta una recaudación de más de 540 millones, Brad Pitt sin duda amará a esos zombis por muchos años más, ya que fue un éxito de taquilla y con una ganancia bastante significativa.

Opinión Final
Esta es una película muy entretenida, llevando al espectador a situaciones terroríficas e incluso desesperantes debido a la horda de zombis. La estructura del argumento es muy bien desarrollada en el film que, si bien se encamina sobre un tema de fantasía, lo hace de una manera sobria desde un punto de vista narrativo.
No es de esas películas de zombis donde la sangre y las entrañas son las protagonistas, pero tiene un buen efecto transmitiendo miedo y una sensación de que no hay escapatoria, es un film que en lo particular pienso que nos muestra uno de los virus más terroríficos y mortales de todo el séptimo arte.
¿La Recomiendo?
Si, es una película comercial muy bien diseñada para llegar a la mayor cantidad de ojos posible, en ese sentido, pienso que a muchas personas pueden disfrutar de este film y de entretenerse con su historia hasta el final. Para mí, es de esas películas que me agrada ver y que siempre recomiendo.

Hello movie and series lovers, this time I want to comment for the whole community a movie that many may remember, especially those viewers who like scripts full of the living dead. Undoubtedly, zombies today are part of our culture, we see them from video games to subtly in children's programs, it is a product that attracts millions of eyes around the world and is one of the topics in which the cinema will always be present.
In this case I am not going to comment on a recent film, in fact, World War Z will be 10 years since its release in 2023, so it is a production that many may know, especially those who love zombie movies, however, my desire is to comment on certain interesting features both in its narrative and its visual aspect that differ from a common zombie movie.
Because it is a film that already has several years since its release, I will allow myself to share with you some interesting features about the plot and its development, however, I will not delve into information about the plot or the end of the film, so I hope not to ruin the experience of any user who has not been able to see this film, let's start!
Synopsis:
Gerry Lane is sent by the UN with the important mission to track down the origin of the disease that turns people into the living dead. To prevent the extermination of the human race he must find clues around the world and come face to face with these creatures hungry for a taste of human flesh. The fate of humanity hangs in the balance and the only way to save it is to find out how to fight the virus.
Movie Analysis
This film is based on the novel of the same name published in 2006, a literary success that, as usual for Hollywood, the rights were acquired to make a film based on that plot structure. In particular I have not read that novel and my opinion would be focused directly on the film and the characteristics presented therein. As a curiosity I must say that the person who decided to transfer the text to the big screen was the same protagonist, Brad Pitt and his own production company are the owners of this franchise and as we will see later it was a really good decision.
Characteristics of the Film
Zombies
The most relevant feature of this film is that it is introduced in the genre of the living dead, however, today there are so many zombie films that we can compare the characteristics of the zombies of World War Z with other productions and differentiate it both by the behavior of the living dead and the characteristics of viruses themselves.
Virus:
It is something we have heard and seen in countless movies, the combination of the word virus and zombies to propitiate a logical scenario and give room for the argument that gives the reason to exist to the living dead, somehow this relationship makes it more credible, however, cinema has not adapted new and creative reasons why a zombie apocalypse arose. Despite this, in cinema each virus is distinct and possesses unique characteristics in each film.
Transmission:
This may be the most aggressive virus towards humanity in all of cinema and turning people into zombies is not necessarily the scariest factor, it is its transmission. When infected by the virus through the bite of an infected person, this pathogen will take as little as 12 seconds to turn into a new zombie that will immediately seek out another healthy person to bite and thus accomplish a frightening exponential spread.
This 12-second feature is vital to understand the film and have a narrative structure that can allow the death of millions of people in a very short period of time. Watching the film we can intuit that, at one point in the film, about 70% of humanity are zombies a few weeks after the first outbreak, something that if we think about it very well is extremely terrifying.
Zombies Seek to Infect, Not Eat
If we detail this movie and compare it to other zombie productions, we will discover a feature that departs from a typical script of early movies and other Hollywood productions. When zombies are mentioned in movies, we think that they are hungry for meat, but not just any meat, apparently they find human flesh and, above all, brains to be the best tasting, however, the zombies in World War Z do not devour their victims, they simply bite them savagely to infect them, 12 seconds later another zombie companion appears to continue with the journey.
In other movies we see that zombies devour the entrails of their victims, something that causes fear without a doubt, but the one that is completely devoured will not be able to become a new living dead, we could say that while they eat the entrails of an unfortunate victim there is some time to run and hide, in World War Z there is no such advantage since the zombies will seek to infect as many people as possible and make the club of the living dead continue to grow.
The behavior of these zombies is undoubtedly something interesting, since their priority is to transmit the virus, rather than to eat, and this makes the scenes less blood but more hordes of zombies.
Movement
I remember the first zombie movie I saw, slow, they barely walked and with a typical whimper they approached their victim to devour it. This slowness meant an advantage to escape or evade them while with a clumsy movement they tried to reach their dinner. In World War Z the zombies look like Olympic athletes of speed, they run and jump in a superhuman way and if we add to that the above mentioned about the 12 seconds transmission, everything becomes a really catastrophic cocktail.
Although we may think that this type of zombie has a better rationing, their behavior will always be to look for the best option to infect, even if it means sacrificing themselves. We observe in the trailer that these zombies are capable of making a large pile in the form of a ladder, with the purpose of climbing walls or reaching high points. Although they have no organization, they take advantage of any circumstance to achieve their goal, even if it means climbing over the bodies of other zombies.
How does the virus travel?
I do not want to go too much into this aspect, however, these zombies have the ability to stay still for a long time being able to hide inside an airplane for example and fly unnoticed to another continent, having the multiplier effect previously mentioned, it is only necessary for a zombie to be in the cargo hold of an airplane to create a disaster at continental level.
Although this logic remains to be developed, the movie does not express itself very well on this matter, so I assume that this may be one of the main causes of intercontinental contagion, although possibly the book will shed more clues in this regard.
Appearance of the Zombies
Another characteristic that we usually find in typical undead movies is the zombie full of blood, with parts of its body and face eaten or rotten, with a more grotesque appearance, in World War Z the zombies are surprisingly clean, there is not much blood on them and their appearance although terrifying does not resort to blood to convey fear, although I am of the opinion that blood is essential for this kind of movies, there are scenes where the zombie seems to be simply wearing a mask and that appearance is not as terrifying as in other movies.
Blood?
Unlike other zombie movies the blood is not only missing in the faces of the zombies but in the film in general, there are no bloody scenes or open wounds that impact, it is to infer that it is a feature that has imposed the producer to reach more people, superimposing the terror focused on the zombie horde that in its appearance or blood in gore scenes, I think it is something risky but the film carries very well its development and the rain of blood is not necessary in its context.
Brad Pitt Triumphs
This statement is not referring to his character in the film, of course not, it is in reference to the fact that Plan B Entertainment, his production company had an exorbitant budget in this great bet of the living dead, but it could have a juicy profit margin. From a budget of 190 million to a gross of over 540 million, Brad Pitt will no doubt love those zombies for many years to come, as it was a box office hit and with a pretty significant profit.

Final Review
This is a very entertaining movie, taking the viewer into terrifying and even desperate situations due to the zombie horde. The plot structure is very well developed in the film, which, although it is routed on a fantasy theme, it does so in a sober way from a narrative point of view.
It is not one of those zombie movies where blood and guts are the protagonists, but it has a good effect transmitting fear and a feeling that there is no escape, it is a film that in particular I think shows us one of the most terrifying and deadly virus of all the seventh art.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, it is a commercial film very well designed to reach as many eyes as possible, in that sense, I think that many people can enjoy this film and be entertained with its story until the end. For me, it is one of those films that I enjoy watching and always recommend.
