[ENG/ESP] Inventing ANNA, a series that goes beyond a scam.

Review by @joseantpp · 1596d · of Inventing Anna

Greetings friends of #cinetv! today I come to comment on the Netflix series Inventing ANNA which tells the story of a young woman who gradually creates an identity with which she convinces many important people to position herself in the high society of New York. The series was premiered by the platform in February of this year, consists of 9 episodes of approximately 60 minutes each and stars Julia Garner as Anna Delvey accompanied by the following cast

Anna Chlumsky: Vivian Kent. Laverne Cox: Kacy Duke Katie Lowes: Rachel Alexys Floyd: Neff Arian Moayed: Todd Anders Holm: Jack

I confess that when I started watching this series I read a little bit about it and I realized that it was inspired by real facts (in fact at the beginning of each chapter they cleverly put the caption: all this story is completely true except for the parts that are completely invented) but it was not a documentary like the famous Tinder scammer and as I was about to choose which one to watch I decided to watch this series which is a production that caught my attention.

In particular when I talk about a movie or series related to a scammer, I always remember that movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks "Catch me if you can" and that movie is based on the interaction between Dicaprio's character with his pursuer Tom Hanks, in this case there is a similarity in the sense that the protagonist is shared by Anna Delvey shown through the vision of his pursuer, the journalist Vivian Kent, a character invented for that purpose.

The story is developed from the perspective of the journalist, showing the problems she had to overcome to get them to let her write the story, the complicated framework of the situation created by Anna, even considering some situations that affect her from her past and future.

During the chapters are discovered little by little, through the versions of those affected the facts in which leave the viewer with doubts about who uses whom, showing an interesting facet of society, serving as a critique of the motivations of people, the position of businesswomen among other things.

Protagonists

Obviously, the best character is the one developed by Julia Garner (she also does a phenomenal job in Ozark, which I will talk about soon) who gets into the character of an enigmatic and apparently frivolous girl, but who always leaves you with a restlessness to know more.

The character of Vivian Kent in particular I found interesting, but her need to know more about the girl exceeds many times what a journalist is supposed to do, and Anna Chumskly's performance is good considering the type of series, but it is not particularly funny or dramatic.

Secondary characters

I didn't like Rachel's character that much, but Neff's character steals most of the attention, I think the performance of actress Alexis Floyd is very good, and believable within the context of the series, the character of Lawyer Todd is also very good, and the older journalists who work with Vivian at times steal the show.

Overall I think it's a series that is well handled with respect to the subject matter, and for the amount of episodes it's very good, and even has unexpected plot twists that are well worth watching.

Thank you very much for reading.

Anna Chlumsky: Vivian Kent. Laverne Cox: Kacy Duke Katie Lowes: Rachel Alexys Floyd: Neff Arian Moayed: Todd Anders Holm: Jack

Saludos, @joseantpp.

Imagine if she pulled it off! 😅😂🤣 (I am familiar with the story as well..😅😂😅) And it does say a lot about the human race!

Although I've taken a break on watching series, this one may create an exception, short stories tend to hold the most magic if written and acted out well.

I think Rachel was quite deliberately presented as unlikeable to be honest - it helps add to the drama at the end of the series. I really liked this series, one of the best I've seen in a long time.
