I'm not a fan of Shonda Rhimes, I admire her as a successful producer. Greys Anatomy made her the woman who turns any production into gold, she knows how to captivate the American viewer, but I don't watch the series of her production company Shondaland. They all have the style that characterizes her, with some melodrama and stereotypical characters that I don't like.
Don't get me wrong, the fact that I don't follow her productions doesn't mean they are bad. Each one has its audience (Scandal, How to Get Away with Murde, among others) and I'm glad it's a woman who has managed to climb within this difficult industry.
I decided to watch this miniseries, because I already knew about the real case and I am also waiting for HBO to finish the production that will tackle the same subject, but based on the book written by Rachell Williams , friend and victim of Anna. Besides, I had to enjoy the performance of Julia Garner, an actress I follow, I have made it very clear in my reviews of Ozark and the movie The Assistant.
For those reasons I resigned myself to putting up with everything I don't like about Shonda Rhimes' productions, focusing only on the parts I wanted to see of the adaptation. They changed the names of a couple of characters and added melodramatic elements that sometimes became tedious. Everything bad and good about Shonda is present. If you're a fan of her other series, you're going to really enjoy Inventing Anna.
One of the weak points of the miniseries is its length. Nine episodes that feel too long. This whole story could have been condensed into five or six 60-minute episodes, but a lot of time is wasted on the subplot of the journalist's personal life and other scenes that became repetitive.
I'll stick with the whole part of the story explaining how Anna managed to fool so many people and is now a celebrity. I will explore all those points after the brief synopsis made by me.

When I first heard about the true story several years ago through an Internet news portal, I was quite amused by the whole thing. How on earth did this young woman manage to fool so many people? I think at that time I had read about the great Theranos scam in Sillicon Valley, about which a documentary was made and a miniseries will be released soon.
Both cases are different, but at the same time they have things in common. The protagonist is a young woman with a lot of ambition and delusions of grandeur, who even believes her own lies. Moreover, in both cases, deception is the basis on which they build everything.
Deceiving is an art and the world is full of people with total mastery of that art. On the other hand, literature and movies have shown us countless stories of America, as the paradise where people can be whoever they want to be, where everyone can start from scratch, reinvent themselves and achieve success. The so-called American dream.
Anna Delvey is the representation of all the illusion that covers the reality of the American dream. Her real last name is not Delvey, but she has reinvented herself. She has the intelligence and skill to create a fantasy world, a story, a trick of illusionism, that everyone will fall for.

From my point of view, the miniseries falls into the error of helping to clean up Anna's image. What she did was wrong, no matter that most of the victims were powerful people, institutions and wealthy people. A scam is a scam, it makes no difference if the victims are rich or not. That is not what the law says.
When in real life the scandal broke out and the article was published, Anna Delvey, who was only known in the closed circle of millionaires where she made public life, became a celebrity. Her social networks multiplied in followers. Many people started to follow and support her. All this is very well reflected in the miniseries, but it fills my head with questions about the direction of our society and how the fascination with this kind of characters influences people's minds.
I am a follower of villains in film, television and literature, I love and feel attraction for the representation of evil in any artistic work. But they are works of fiction, they are not real. In contrast, the character in this miniseries does exist in real life and it concerns me how a part of society idolizes criminal behavior.
As the end of the miniseries approached, I could feel that the message from the production company is to clean up Anna's image. They bought the rights from her and she received over $300,000. I think Shonda Rhimes has admiration for Anna and likes all the bad things she did. Why, because her victims were people with money? This strikes me as very hypocritical on her part, as she is a wealthy woman and this new success with the miniseries has increased her prestige. Maybe she has taken advantage of Anna's scandal to get more money, she already has her share of the pie.
It is dangerous that our society is used to look sympathetically on deception. Coincidentally, it was the same thing I criticized about the movie Hustle, about the Wall Street hustlers, which is an adaptation of an article also written by Jessica Pressler. Too much of a coincidence, it seems that the journalist puts that modern-day Robin Hood touch on the protagonists of these true events. The real Anna strikes me as an intelligent, skilled woman with a great talent for deception. Those skills made her shine in that frivolous world of the rich. She enjoyed a life of luxury using deception as a weapon. Each of you, dear readers, will have to investigate Anna and draw your own conclusions.
Now, the miniseries, I thought, was average. I enjoyed it at various times, but there are parts that have too much of Shonda's stamp and I got tired of those scenes. Maybe others like it more than me. I'll keep waiting for the HBO version, which I'm sure will be more in line with my expectations.
Julia Garner
The actress in charge of playing Anna. Her interpretation is what made the whole story more bearable for me. I admire the actress, she plays my favorite character from OZARK: Ruth. Anyone who has seen her in that series, will realize what a great acting job, especially with Anna Delvey's peculiar accent. She deserves a lot of applause, praise and hopefully at least some award nominations in the future. She manages to transform herself into that enigmatic character and invent another new Anna.
All the supporting actors do well, I'm not going to launch harsh criticism against them, I respect the work of the actors. Some stand out more than others. Many are familiar faces from other Shonda productions, so you'll recognize them. Unfortunately, I could never connect with the story of the journalist, who in the miniseries is called Vivian Kent, but is clearly inspired by Pressler, the real journalist. She is played by actress Anna Chlumsky, but I'm not going to criticize the actress, just the character, who I found unbearable for most of the story. Her plot, the pregnancy and her marital relationship, was the most annoying thing of all.

La actriz encargada de interpretar a Anna. Su interpretación es lo que me hizo más llevadera toda la historia. Admiro a la actriz, interpreta a mi personaje favorito de OZARK: Ruth. Cualquiera que la haya visto en esa serie, se dará cuenta del gran trabajo actoral, sobre todo con el acento tan peculiar de Anna Delvey. Se merece muchos aplausos, elogios y espero que al menos alguna nominación a premios en el futuro. Consigue transformarse en ese enigmático personaje e inventar otra nueva Anna.
Todos los secundarios lo hacen bien, no voy a lanzar duras críticas contra ellos, respeto el trabajo de los actores. Algunos destacan más que otros. Muchos son caras conocidas de otras producciones de Shonda, así que los reconocerás. Por desgracia, nunca pude conectar con la historia de la periodista, que en la miniserie se llama Vivian Kent, pero está claramente inspirada en Pressler, la periodista real.
