The first thing I am going to recommend is that if you don't like Spoilers this post is not for you since my review, from my perspective contains a lot of spoilers, which is important to know what we are talking about.

I know this is a movie in the mystery and adventure category but here you will read a totally different perspective about the movie, not just the detective part of it.

Let's start by saying that I am particularly a demanding person with movies, I generally feel that most of them make me waste my time between so many jumps, meaningless stories and always more of the same there is a point where even in 10 minutes of movies you can be completely boring, many times I torture myself in a horrible way finishing watching movies to really have my own opinion about it, when I already know that it starts out being trash it usually ends up being worse than I thought.

In this particular case, I did not have many expectations and according to the trailer it gave me a totally different idea than what I really understood about the movie, for me it was very good, I did not get bored, it is a funny film but it also had its seconds of sadness, so it did generate emotions in me.

I will not talk about the technical part of the movie or the script because I am not a critic and I have no experience in that, I will only talk about my impression and what I really saw of this movie, I think it is a good message.

When the first scenes are beginning to develop, show the bond that Enola has with her mother, it basically focuses on that and the education that the mother gave her, it was not a traditional education for the time, her mother focused on develop all of Enola's abilities to make her a fairly independent woman.

On the 16th birthday, Enola's mother disappears, leaving her home alone and with it come her brothers Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes. At this point Mycroft is upset with the education that his sister received, it did not seem appropriate and he wanted to impose a young lady's education on her, (I feel that this is where the true message of the movie begins according to the way I see it) but Enola doesn't. She is not interested and in fact she thinks that she already has enough education and does not need to be a lady, she goes with Sherlock looking for help because she thinks it is more important to look for her mother and Sherlock denies the help, after this they show a scene where a educator is going to introduce herself to tell her that she will make her a young lady and since Enola does not agree to this, she is strongly slapped by this educator and after this she decides to take her own reins, to think that she can find her mother and run away from home to undertake this search.

It is necessary to know all this to get into the context of the movie for those who might want to see it or read a little of my opinion.

In this movie it seems that it is really going to be about Enola looking for the mother but it is not like that, it takes a turn that makes you understand where it is focused.

Enola trying to flee she goes on a train to London and on this train she meets the young Viscount Tewkesbury who ends up playing an important role, at first Enola did not want his company because she already knew that they were looking for him on the train, that he was running away, after Enola leaves leaving him alone she realizes that the person who is looking for him really wants to kill him and she decides to save him and this is how she ends up related to this Viscount but not for long since she must undertake her search for her mother without any inconvenience so when they finish arriving in London they separate.

I feel like I don't want to talk a lot about the movie, I really want to give my opinion.

This movie is aimed at showing a part of female power, that is why at the beginning they show us Enola receiving a totally different education so as not to be a puppet of society, her mother always wanted her to have freedom, a future and a purpose.

The character of Enola despite being 16 years old, is an intelligent, strong and capable character, which they cannot tame, not even her brother Mycroft who tried to force her to be a young lady to "fit in" with the ideals of society and also take care of his reputation.

There are some scenes that make you reflect a bit, for example when one of the characters Edith, mentions to Sherlock the fact why he doesn't like politics and tells him that it really is "because you have no interest in changing a world that it suits you so well"

Edith is a woman, a pretty strong one who by the way is martial arts master (jiu jitsu). When she mentioned this, it confirmed a bit what I was thinking. As I said before, Edith is a woman, she talks about not knowing what it is to feel that you have no power and then she talks about changing the world, and in one of the scenes where Enola is looking for clues to find her mother, it is clear that her mother was fighting for women's rights and she had actually left to keep fighting for this.

At that point Enola manages to decipher what her mother is really going to do and wants to try to stop her, here it is about politics, since her mother was fighting or trying to make a bit of noise regarding the approval of a reform, and what was it about this reform precisely? It was precisely trying to expand the right to vote, allowing women to have power. So there was no doubt for me this movie is about female power!

Let's remember a bit of the history of our real world, many social and political conflicts due to the struggle of women to get the right to vote, some events occurred between 1913 and others in 1914. Well, now focusing on the history of the movie, lets us see that Enola's mother was immersed in such a scenario, and that she was in favor of using a little aggression to fulfill her real goal that women had a voice (with homemade bombs)

Having this clear, I was able to see the background of what the movie really is and I wanted to see at what point Enola was really going to change her decision because all the signs pointed to the fact that her mother was not going to appear or have much appearance in the movie.

And it happens precisely when Enola in the search for her mother disguised as a young lady meets again with the murderer who tried to kill the Viscount, he tries to interrogate her to obtain information about the location of Viscount Tewkesbury but as Enola decided to separate from him she really did not know anything. In this regard, it seemed that everything was going to end badly for her since the murderer tried to drown her but somehow she was able to free herself and later have a hand by hand fight with this murderer, she managed to lose him but this also made her realize that the life of the young man was in danger and as a good soul she did not want anything to happen to him, so all this ended with her postponing the search for her mother for a few moments and going to investigate, to enter the real home of the Viscount to find out if he had left some clues to find his true location, which she succeeds in doing.

She is reunited with the Viscount but again someone else finds them this time a detective hired by his brother Mycroft Holmes, since he was upset by the disappearance of Enola thinking about how this would affect his reputation, at that moment Enola was with the Viscount but Enola decided to risk her freedom to save the life of the Viscount, since this being a figure of considerable political power, he was highly sought after especially a offer of a very large monetary reward, we know that they should not find him because otherwise he was going to be assassinated. Enola thought it was someone in his family, his uncle who wanted him dead.

Well, when Enola is captured it is seen again how they try to force her to be a young lady, they show her in a girls' school where clearly the only purpose and the only ideals is that these women were only married women with children.

I don't remember well but I think that in these scenes is where she realizes the real power that the Viscount has, when she arrives at this school she reads some newspapers and can see that the lords are without a decision about the reform and thinks that Tewkesbury deals with his responsibilities as Lord could really change the world, achieve a change with the approval of the reform, in the whole movie Enola had not really seen the interest of making this reform change until this point that she seems to really understand that in fact she could bring about a big change that her mother seemed to be fighting over as well.

Somehow the Tewkesbury remembered the name of the girls' school that Enola told him she hated and managed to reach her and rescue her.

Enola really realized what really mattered and that it was what she was willing to risk for this that mattered to her.

Tewkesbury had to return home to take his place and vote in favor of the reform, but when they got home, the outlook was not very flattering, the murderer was waiting for them, Enola was willing to risk her own life to save him, fortunately Tewkesbury did not allow this to be possible but instead the murderer could kill him now, Enola was semi unconscious but not for long, all this ended in that they were both able to save their lives and finally revealing the true person who had sent the assassin, it was not the uncle as Enola thought but it was the Grandmother. This woman who had previously made it clear that she did not agree very much with people who thought differently, people who saw the future, she was a classist woman who did not want her grandson in power for her own selfish and classist interests.

At the end the scene is shown where the reform is actually approved with the help of Tewkesbury.

But what message that this movie leave us? In the end Enola meets her mother again and lets her know the true reason for her departure. Her mother wanted to change the world, she wanted a better place for Enola and for all women.

If we go to the history of our real world we are going to understand that Enola's mother was never an ordinary woman, Enola's mother really belonged in part to the activists who had a lot of weight in this whole panorama, The Women's Social and Political Union. Enola's mom was really on a mission to get the power to vote for women.

So the message?

Fight for what is really worth it, and don't let society control you.
