The truth is I haven't been anywhere near to reading the book that inspired this movie, and from what I could see maybe those who created it didn't either or I don't know if taking Stephen King's books to the big screen is so complicated, because certainly the last attempts have been complete nonsense.
This movie is strange (and not in the good way), because it does not seem to revolve around something, that is to say it is basically the story of a group of people who circumstantially and progressively become trapped in a gigantic field that ends up becoming a kind of giant labyrinth where nature plays against them making them go through really suffocating moments.
[Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/523139-in-the-tall-grass?language=ko-KR)The bizarre thing is that from nowhere other characters begin to appear within the field of vegetation to make everything worse, but the strange thing is that even relatives and acquaintances of the first characters appear to disconcert us even more (not in the good way). The film is basically a festival of madness bad mind directed, where no one is the protagonist, no one has a solid story and no one will be fond of us so very little we care that continues to happen with the characters.
The story is certainly not the best, and as I said I don't know if the story of the book is like that, or if rather the creators of the film simply didn't know how to transmit it. Without taking into account that the atmosphere is completely flat, with shots in which many times we only see the giant green field and nothing else, shots that although well done transmit nothing but suffocation and lack of personality.

Perhaps what is moderately redeemable is Patrick Wilson and his constant attempt to generate something more in the plot but unfortunately not enough to rescue a badly done story.
Final thoughts.
All the production is basically a fusion of moments placed to catch the spectators but that fail enormously for lack of identity and a reason that justifies the story, there is no clear before or after that allows us to differentiate the whole story. Besides, the way in which all the "terror" is constructed is stupid, since out of nowhere characters appear who simply define themselves by having fallen into the "implacable" claws of a field of "haunted" grass.
I always try to give credit to any film because the truth, making a production has its merit for the complexity it represents, but the reality this film has very few merits. A story that seems badly written from the beginning, with a script and a group of actors that make it horrible, which only highlight some moments of tension caused by basically the journey and the final points of the film.
This is a film that becomes tedious and that personally cost me to finish watching.
