   El año 2019 fue sin duda una época caótica para mi y gran parte de los venezolanos de mi país, el sistema eléctrico colapsó por lo que tuvimos dos apagones de varios días seguidos, lo que llevó a la implementación de un duro racionamiento, en todas partes cortaban la electricidad por varias horas en diferentes momentos del día, yo estaba enfocada en sobrevivir teniendo solo mi pequeña laptop para trabajar desde casa, aprovechando las pocas horas de electricidad para trabajar no quedaba mucho tiempo para el entretenimiento, bajo este panorama recibí la agradable visita de un viejo amigo, el necesitaba tener conexión a Internet para algunas cosas, así que me dijo que iba a guardar algunas películas en mi computadora para que yo las viera, así es como de la forma más imprevista terminé viendo la película En la hierba alta.

   Mi amigo me conoce desde hace casi 20 años, por lo que el sabe que me gusta más el suspenso que el terror en las películas, que no me impresionan fácilmente ver cosas desagradables o matanzas explícitas en el cine de este tipo, por lo cual me recomendó esta película por tener mucho suspenso y por ser basada en una novela de Stephen King y Joe Hill, así que de inmediato sentí interés en verla.

   
   

   My friend has known me for almost 20 years, so he knows that I like suspense more than horror in movies, that I am not easily impressed by seeing unpleasant things or explicit killings in movies of this type, which is why I He recommended this movie for being very suspenseful and based on a novel by Stephen King and Joe Hill, so I was immediately interested in seeing it.

   

   La trama es algo simple pero al mismo tiempo es un gran misterio y entra dentro del campo de lo sobrenatural, al principio vemos como una mujer embarazada y su hermano hacen un viaje en carretera y se detienen a la orilla del camino, esto en mi ya causa una gran sensación de angustia en incomodidad, porque toda persona que haya viajado en carretera sabe que hay tramos en los que no hay ningún tipo de conexión telefónica, donde no hay poblados y donde cualquier accidente ocurrido allí sería algo aislado, esa sensación de estar vulnerable en medio de la nada a mi particularmente me causa mucho miedo. Estas personas además escuchan el pedido de auxilio de un niño, la voz se escucha cercana pero dentro de la hierba alta a la orilla del camino, dudaron al principio pero luego entran en la hierba alta y se dan cuenta que es imposible salir.

   
   

   The plot is something simple but at the same time it is a great mystery and enters into the field of the supernatural, at the beginning we see how a pregnant woman and her brother take a road trip and stop on the side of the road, this in me already causes a great feeling of anguish and discomfort, because every person who has traveled on the road knows that there are stretches in which there is no type of telephone connection, where there are no towns and where any accident that occurred there would be something isolated, that feeling of being Vulnerable in the middle of nowhere, it particularly scares me a lot. These people also hear a child's call for help, the voice is heard nearby but inside the tall grass on the edge of the road, they hesitated at first but then they enter the tall grass and realize that it is impossible to get out.

   Quizá haya personas que se asusten al ver sangre por todos lados, pero hay personas como yo que el sentimiento de angustia por el suspenso es mucho más poderoso , recuerden que la mujer está embarazada además, allí en la hierba hay más voces, al parecer hay más personas atrapadas, pronto la película que muestra solamente a la mayoría las personas en el escenario de la hierba, se adentra también en la mente de cada uno de su personajes, haciendo a veces flash back al pasado, hay todo un misterio y mientras las personas se cansan de caminar, tienen hambre y están deshidratadas todo parece empeorar.

   La película es fantástica porque quizá cualquier persona se aburriría de solo ver personajes en medio de la hierba alta, pero esta tan bien hecha la película que mantiene la tensión y la angustia al máximo, hay momentos en que la angustia que sentía me hacía pensar en que quería ayudar a los personajes a salir de allí de algún modo. Fue muy importante para mí vi ver esta película en esa época de mi vida porque ya había perdido la esperanza de entretenerme de algún modo en esos días.

   
   

   The film is fantastic because perhaps anyone would get bored just seeing characters in the middle of the tall grass, but the film is so well made that it keeps the tension and anguish at a maximum, there are moments when the anguish I felt made me think of that I wanted to help the characters get out of there somehow. It was very important for me to see this movie at that time in my life because I had already lost hope of being entertained in any way in those days.

   In The Tall Grass, una película que te envuelve con un Verde hipnotizante, es como un Bucle que con una base misteriosa proveniente desde más allá de las estrellas, nos muestra un pequeño conflicto de pareja que desencadena una serie de eventos como si fuera una maravillosa paradoja de probabilidades, así como es la vida, por más que queremos controlarla siempre hay variables que se nos escapan de las manos como pueden ser el tiempo en sus distintas versiones pasado, presente y futuro que alteran todo el entorno o espacio que nos rodea en este caso de manera terrorífica usando un concepto físico llamado HiperCubo que aplica en el film como algo a lo que llamo La HiperHierbaAlta.

   Una Película bastante entretenida y que pondrá a trabajar mucho esas neuronas debido a las tramas que se desarrollan, eso es lo que más me encanto del film porque a medida que vamos conociendo el misterio de la hierba alta, nos deja conocer elementos físicos que en teoría pueden ocurrir y eso es fascinante usando el misterio y terror como principales herramientas para manipular al espectador, película a la que le doy ocho chiquitos de diez y pueden encontrar en Netflix, les invito a verla y así finalizo la reseña SIN SPOILERS para poder dar inicio a lo que más me encanta, la reseña con Spoilers donde hablare de esa escena que más me gusto y desarrollo de guión.

   In The Tall Grass, a film that envelops you with a hypnotizing Green, is like a Loop that with a mysterious base coming from beyond the stars, shows us a small couple conflict that triggers a series of events as if it were a wonderful paradox of probabilities, just as life is, no matter how much we want to control it there are always variables that escape from our hands such as time in its different versions past, present and future that alter the entire environment or space around us in this case in a terrifying way using a physical concept called HyperCube that applies in the film as something I call The HyperTallGrass.

   A very entertaining film that will put those neurons to work a lot due to the plots that are developed, that's what I love most about the film because as we get to know the mystery of the tall grass, it lets us know physical elements that in theory can occur and that is fascinating using mystery and terror as the main tools to manipulate the viewer, I invite you to watch it and so I end the review WITHOUT SPOILERS to start what I love the most, the review with Spoilers where I will talk about that scene that I liked the most and script development.

   Ahora si abro zona de spoilers para comentar el guión a fondo y esas escenas que más me agradaron. El guión maneja el misterio como elemento base para influir en el espectador, a mi pensar maneja muy bien el aspecto Hierba Alta ya que los personajes Becky que es una mujer embarazada de aproximadamente seis meses y su hermano Cal hacen un viaje a la ciudad sin razón evidente para nosotros al inicio del film, a mitad de camino se detienen en lo que parece ser una iglesia en el medio de la nada ya que la carretera está rodeada por ambos lados con una HIERBA ALTA, mucho más alta que un ser humano promedio, se detienen ya que becky se siente mal y vomita, en este proceso comienza el misterio porque escuchan el grito de un niño cuyo personaje se llama Tobin pidiendo ayuda con vehemencia ya que no puede salir de la hierba alta.

   El misterio está muy bien desarrollado en el primer acto de la película porque nos deja con muchas interrogantes sobre que está sucediendo en ese lugar, que paso con ese niño gritando, que hace una iglesia o estructura de CULTO en el medio de la nada y que fueras hecho tú al escuchar un niño pidiendo ayuda dentro de una hierba tan alta. Muchos estoy seguro harían lo que hicieron Becky y su hermano, simplemente entrar en la inocente hierba para ver qué sucede con el niño, encontrarle y ayudarle.

   Es en este punto donde el misterio que sigue siendo protagonista empieza a perfumarse con toques de terror ya que la hierba altera la posición a placer de los seres vivos en ella. Becky y su hermano terminan también perdiéndose en la tranquila hierba alta mientras siguen escuchando los gritos desesperados del niño, aun estando en el primer acto del film, empezamos a respirar un toque de terror ya que nuestros personajes se ven afectados espacialmente, la hierba manipula su posición y al estar rodeados de lo verde, no se dan cuenta que la hierba los pierde cada vez más y más en su ubicación.

   Esto lo notamos porque hay una escena a destacar y criticar porque llama mucho la atención, Becky y Cal no se consiguen pero se escuchan entonces deciden saltar para ver qué tan lejos están uno del otro, logran en un primer salto ver que no están tan lejos pero en el segundo intento la hierba los aleja enormemente y esto lo notan tanto que Becky se asusta y cae.

   En este punto ya la historia nos va revelando el misterio espacial que tiene la hierba, puede cambiar la posición de los seres pero solo si están vivos, esto es otro buen dato que nos revela el niño mientras se desarrolla toda esta trama ya que él se guía por su perro muerto, ahora una pequeña crítica es que para lo alto de la hierba, Becky y Cal saltan demasiado alto, hice la prueba y es impresionante el salto que dan, sobre todo Becky que está embarazada, dejo esto porque es un elemento usado por el director para hacer más énfasis y notemos que la hierba los mueve, cambia la posición de nuestros personajes y por eso se pierden en ella pero pienso que para lo alto que nos muestran la hierba, Becky y su hermano no se fueran podido ver.

   Now I open spoilers area to comment the script in depth and those scenes that I liked the most. The script handles the mystery as a base element to influence the viewer, to my mind it handles the Tall Grass aspect very well as the characters Becky who is a woman about six months pregnant and her brother Cal take a trip to the city for no apparent reason to us at the beginning of the film, halfway there they stop at what appears to be a church in the middle of nowhere as the road is surrounded on both sides with HIGH GRASS, much taller than an average human being, they stop as becky feels sick and vomits, in this process the mystery begins as they hear the scream of a child whose character is named Tobin vehemently asking for help as he can't get out of the high grass.

   The mystery is very well developed in the first act of the movie because it leaves us with many questions about what is happening in that place, what happened with that screaming child, what is a church or a CULT structure doing in the middle of nowhere and what would you do if you heard a child asking for help in such a tall grass. Many I am sure would do what Becky and her brother did, just go into the innocent grass to see what is going on with the child, find him and help him.

   It is at this point that the mystery that continues to take center stage begins to be perfumed with hints of terror as the grass alters the position at will of the living creatures in it. Becky and her brother also end up getting lost in the quiet tall grass while still hearing the desperate cries of the child, even being in the first act of the film, we begin to breathe a touch of terror as our characters are affected spatially, the grass manipulates their position and being surrounded by the green, they do not realize that the grass loses them more and more in their location.

   We notice this because there is a scene to highlight and criticize because it calls much attention, Becky and Cal do not get but they hear each other so they decide to jump to see how far they are from each other, they manage in a first jump to see that they are not so far away but on the second attempt the grass moves them away enormously and they notice this so much that Becky gets scared and falls.

   At this point the story is already revealing the spatial mystery that the grass has, it can change the position of the beings but only if they are alive, this is another good fact that the boy reveals to us while all this plot develops since he is guided by his dead dog, now a small criticism is that for the height of the grass, Becky and Cal jump too high, I did the test and it is impressive the jump they give, especially Becky who is pregnant, I leave this because it is an element used by the director to make more emphasis and notice that the grass moves them, changes the position of our characters and so they get lost in it but I think that for how high they show us the grass, Becky and her brother would not have been able to see each other.

   En el Segundo Acto empieza a tomar protagonismo LA GRAN ROCA el cual es un elemento desarrollado en la película por el personaje llamado Ross Humboldt padre del niño Tobin perdido en la hierba. Este es un arco que toca medula en mi porque me gustan las civilizaciones antiguas y todas esas teorías que indican a nuestro origen proveniente de las estrellas entonces LA GRAN ROCA pareciera ser en mi opinión un elemento que no es de este planeta que influyo energética y temporalmente en el lugar, al ser sobrenatural, las personas le rindieron CULTO y por eso está la iglesia en ese lugar. Este es un aspecto que está abierto a interpretación de cada persona lo cual aplaudo porque hace que los espectadores usemos las neuronas con los datos dados y planteemos teorías de lo que sucede a medida que avanza el film.

   La Gran Roca de Culto es manejado muy bien en el film a través de la familia Humboldt, principalmente a través del padre y el hijo, en lo que capte ambos tocaron La Roca y aquel que la toque esta en toda la Hierba, la Roca manipula al padre y debido a esto Ross enloquece para pasar a ser la herramienta de ejecución que mantiene el ciclo temporal latente en el lugar ya que es en el final de este segundo acto que conocemos a Travis, novio de Becky el cual preocupado llega al lugar porque ve el auto de su amada estacionado en la iglesia, termina entrando en la hierba porque escucha los gritos y es el que tiene más interacción con Ross porque La Gran Roca quiere que Travis la toque.

   Este segundo acto presenta las bases del bucle temporal ya que con la presentación de Travis están presentados todos los personajes necesarios y más misterios debido al Culto a La Gran Roca, esta estructura con símbolos que parecen jeroglíficos introducidos en la trama me sorprendió con mucho agrado en la película ya que este tipo de elementos en historias me apasionan ya que me recuerdan a estructuras megalíticas de rituales ancestrales como Stonehenge en Escocia usados por nuestros antepasados.

   Aunque tiene sus detalles a criticar como por ejemplo el hecho de que el niño se nos muestra claramente que ha tocado la roca pero él no está enloquecido y tampoco manipula al resto de personajes, lo que él hace es dar datos, es el quien dice que si algo está muerto, la hierba no lo moverá y nos muestra sinceridad que podemos comprobar con lo visto en el film, esto contrasta enormemente con Ross que es su padre, manipulador al máximo y hace todo lo posible para que Travis ceda y toque la Roca entonces no sé porque si la Roca es como un ser pensante, no destruye los pensamientos del niño, una explicación pudiera ser su inocencia pero no me convence del todo.

   In Act II, THE BIG ROCK begins to take center stage, which is an element developed in the film by the character Ross Humboldt, father of the boy Tobin, lost in the grass. This is an arc that touches my core because I like ancient civilizations and all those theories that indicate our origin coming from the stars so THE BIG ROCK seems to be in my opinion an element that is not of this planet that influenced energetically and temporarily in the place, being supernatural, people worshiped him and that is why the church is in that place. This is an aspect that is open to interpretation of each person which I applaud because it makes viewers use their neurons with the data given and raise theories of what happens as the film progresses.

   The Big Cult Rock is handled very well in the film through the Humboldt family, mainly through the father and son, in what I grasp they both touched The Rock and whoever touches it is all over the Weed, the Rock manipulates the father and because of this Ross goes mad to become the execution tool that keeps the time cycle dormant in place as it is at the end of this second act that we meet Travis, Becky's boyfriend who worriedly arrives on the scene because he sees his beloved's car parked at the church, ends up going into the grass because he hears the screams and is the one who has the most interaction with Ross because The Big Rock wants Travis to touch her.

   This second act presents the bases of the time loop since with the presentation of Travis are presented all the necessary characters and more mysteries due to the Cult of The Big Rock, this structure with symbols that look like hieroglyphics introduced in the plot surprised me with much pleasure in the film since this type of elements in stories I am passionate about as they remind me of megalithic structures of ancestral rituals like Stonehenge in Scotland used by our ancestors.

   Although it has its details to criticize as for example the fact that the boy is clearly shown that he has touched the rock but he is not crazy and does not manipulate the other characters, what he does is to give data, he is the one who says that if something is dead, the grass will not move it and shows us sincerity that we can check with what we see in the film, This contrasts greatly with Ross who is his father, manipulative to the maximum and does everything possible so that Travis gives in and touches the Rock so I do not know why if the Rock is like a thinking being, it does not destroy the thoughts of the child, an explanation could be his innocence but I am not entirely convinced.

   En el Tercer Acto es donde el Terror se apodera del Film y queda al descubierto todo el misterio ya que existe una gente hierba que hace culto a La Gran Roca y esta última manipula todo el espacio rodeado por la hierba y también varía temporalmente a los seres en ella. Las escenas que más me agradaron son dos, una por la brutalidad que maneja donde Ross mata a su esposa frente a todos aplastando su cráneo con sus propias manos y otra donde esta gente hierba usa a la Roca para manipular a Cal y este termina dándole de comer el feto de la hija de Becky a esta misma, ella come el feto sin saberlo porque está delirando mientras un infierno se abre debajo de ellos.

   Dos críticas a resaltar son que LA GRAN ROCA es la que destaca, la gente hierba no me agrado para nada, no me imponen nada y otra es de casting, pienso que el actor que representa a Cal no transmite presencia en cámara y esto hace que las cosas que Cal hace no me interesen mucho hasta este punto.

   Para finalizar hablare de la trama temporal, este bucle infinito que genera La Gran Roca, resulta que la razón de ser para el viaje de Becky es porque esta no quiere tener el hijo de Travisya que este la abandono por ello, esto más Tovin y su familia perdiéndose en la hierba son el origen del bucle, uno que termina con Travis entrando en la hierba, por eso la Vehemencia de Ross para que Travis toque la Roca, al ser una realidad que varía temporalmente, se presenta un concepto que llamo HiperHierbaAlta donde todas las decisiones, vidas y muertes de los personajes coexisten simultáneamente.

   Esto se demuestra con la escena donde Ross atrapa a Cal el cual estaba huyendo y es porque todos los Cal Temporales eligen la izquierda en ese momento y Ross le señala todos los cadáveres Cal que él ha matado antes ya que todas las cosas muertas la hierba no las puede mover. Para finalizar con el ciclo, Travis toca la Roca pero antes de entrar en demencia, elimina a Ross y libera a Tobin para que detenga el siguiente ciclo, este lo hace ya que evita entre Becky y así finaliza la película con un final feliz ya que Becky luego de esto se anima a tener su bebe y decide regresar con su amor Travis.

   El final está muy bien planteado, puede ser muy confuso pero así son los bucles temporales los cuales se pueden entender más cuando se conoce el concepto de RESIDUO TEMPORAL, en este caso ese residuo es un Tobin que por lo visto en la película nunca muere, es un Tobin puro, uno solo y uno que ha tocado la Roca y el costo a pagar es la vida de un Travis, el último que entro en la hierba que se sacrifica para lograr el final mencionado anteriormente. Una pequeña crítica es que la moraleja esta demás, Becky de repente quiere tener su bebe y sinceramente no veo razones para que esa Becky cambie de parecer solo por salvar a Tobin.

   Película bastante entretenida por todos los conceptos que maneja y al ser muy arriesgada porque no es fácil manejar bucles temporales, ocho chiquitos de diez ya que no me agrado la gente hierba y la moraleja final innecesaria, de resto es fascinante la película por el concepto HiperHierbaAlta.

   Dedicado todos y cada uno de mis port y videos a mi perrita llamada Princesa que le decíamos chiquito que ya no está con nosotros pero desde el cielo ella verá que su existencia SI fue valiosa y lo más bonito que existirá en mi corazón y en mi alma.

   In the Third Act is where the Terror takes over the Film and the whole mystery is uncovered since there is a grass people who worship The Big Rock and the latter manipulates all the space surrounded by grass and also temporarily varies the beings in it. The scenes that pleased me the most are two, one for the brutality that handles where Ross kills his wife in front of everyone crushing her skull with his bare hands and another where these grass people use the Rock to manipulate Cal and he ends up feeding the fetus of Becky's daughter to this same one, she eats the fetus without knowing it because she is delirious while a hell opens up underneath them.

   Two criticisms to highlight are that THE BIG ROCK is the one that stands out, I didn't like the grass people at all, they don't impose anything on me and another one is casting, I think the actor that represents Cal doesn't transmit presence on camera and this makes the things that Cal does not interest me much until this point.

   To finish I will talk about the temporal plot, this infinite loop that generates The Big Rock, it turns out that the reason for Becky's trip is because she doesn't want to have Travisya's son and he abandoned her because of it, this plus Tovin and his family getting lost in the grass are the origin of the loop, one that ends with Travis going into the grass, hence Ross's Vehemence for Travis to touch the Rock, being a temporally varying reality, a concept I call HyperHierbaAlta is presented where all the decisions, lives and deaths of the characters coexist simultaneously.

   This is demonstrated by the scene where Ross catches Cal who was running away and it is because all the Temporal Cals choose left at that moment and Ross points out to him all the Cal corpses he has killed before since all dead things the grass can't move them. To end with the cycle, Travis touches the Rock but before going into dementia, he eliminates Ross and releases Tobin to stop the next cycle, this he does as he avoids between Becky and thus ends the film with a happy ending as Becky after this is encouraged to have her baby and decides to return to her love Travis.

   The ending is very well raised, it can be very confusing but so are the time loops which can be understood more when you know the concept of TEMPORARY RESIDUE, in this case that residue is a Tobin that apparently in the film never dies, is a pure Tobin, one only and one that has touched the Rock and the cost to pay is the life of a Travis, the last one who entered the grass that is sacrificed to achieve the end mentioned above. A small criticism is that the moral is too much, Becky suddenly wants to have her baby and honestly I see no reason for Becky to change her mind just to save Tobin.

   Quite entertaining movie for all the concepts it handles and for being very risky because it is not easy to handle time loops, eight little ones out of ten because I did not like the weed people and the unnecessary final moral, otherwise the movie is fascinating for the concept HyperTallGrass.

   I dedicate each and every one of my port and videos to my little dog named Princesa who we used to call her chiquito, she is no longer with us but from heaven she will see that her existence IS valuable and the most beautiful thing that will exist in my heart and soul.

   Hello, friends of #moviesandtvshows, today I bring a new contribution to #spookymonth, this time it is the review of "In the tall grass" a movie that is based on one of the many works of the master of horror: Stephen King, which was recommended to me by a member of this community (@universoperdido), so without hesitation I decided to give it a try and although it is not the great masterpiece of horror, it kept me pretty attentive to everything that happened inside the tall grass.

   Hola, amigos de #moviesandtvshows, el día de hoy traigo un nuevo aporte al #spookymonth, esta vez se trata de la reseña de “En la hierba alta” una película que está basada en una de las tantas obras del maestro del terror: Stephen King, la cual me fue recomendada por un miembro de esta comunidad (@universoperdido), por lo que sin dudarlo decidí darle una oportunidad y aunque no es la gran obra maestra del terror, me mantuvo bastante atenta a todo lo que pasaba dentro de la hierba alta.

   There is no better way to describe this movie than with the (invented) word "stephenkinesque", because it is definitely something out of the head of the master King, I think the only element missing to seal it completely is that one of the protagonists was a writer. So don't expect it to be a movie that makes too much sense or logic, because it definitely isn't, what you can expect is an atmosphere that, as the minutes go by, becomes more and more disturbing.

   At first, I honestly thought I had made a mistake when I started watching it, because I awkwardly read some pretty bad opinions regarding the movie, but I decided to give it a chance anyway, as I usually do with movies based on Stephen King's works, and while I don't think it's a work of art, I do think it's pretty decent, and it serves its purpose, at least for me, as it managed to unsettle me and keep me expectant about the things happening with the characters.

   So while it is not a film that causes many scares (or rather none), what it does achieve is to generate an atmosphere of tension in which you do not know when something scary is going to happen, there were several moments that left me disgusted and with a face of "What is that?" (yes, like the trend of SpongeBob), and I think that's exactly the goal of this film, cause us a sense of uneasiness and disbelief at what we are seeing.

   No hay mejor forma de describir esta película que con la palabra (inventada) “stephenkinesca”, porque definitivamente es algo salido de la cabeza del maestro King, creo que el único elemento que falta para sellarlo por completo es que alguno de los protagonistas fuera escritor. Así que no esperen que sea una película con demasiado sentido o lógica, porque definitivamente no lo es, lo que sí pueden esperar es un ambiente que, a medida que transcurren los minutos, se va volviendo cada vez más perturbador.

   Al principio, honestamente, pensé que había cometido un error al comenzar a verla, porque torpemente leí algunas opiniones bastante malas con respecto a la película, pero decidí de todos modos darle una oportunidad, como normalmente hago con las películas basadas en obras de Stephen King, y aunque no creo que sea una obra de arte, sí creo que es bastante decente y que cumple su propósito, por lo menos para mí, ya que logró inquietarme y mantenerme expectante sobre las cosas que ocurrían con los personajes.

   Así que si bien no es una película que cause muchos sustos (o más bien ninguno), lo que sí logra es generar un ambiente de tensión en el que no sabes cuando va a pasar algo aterrador, hubo varios momentos en los que me dejó asqueada y con cara de “¿Qué es eso?” (sí, como el trend de Bob esponja), y creo que ese es justamente el objetivo de esta película, causarnos una sensación de intranquilidad e incredulidad ante lo que estamos viendo.

   The story is quite simple and there comes a point where it becomes slightly predictable, we already know that the weed is bad and that someone is going to go crazy and start killing everyone (it's a Stephen King work, let's not forget), in that it reminded me of "The Mist", with the difference that in this, the grass is a little more "playful" than the fog and perhaps less lethal, but this one has something that particularly catches my attention in any movie, although to talk about that I must warn you that there is an important SPOILER in the next paragraph.

   There are two very transcendental time jumps in the story that for me made it much more interesting, because I was already finding it quite predictable, but that twist was refreshing and made the movie catch my attention again, as I have told you in previous posts, I have a soft spot for time travel and time jumps, I find them fascinating, and although in the movie it is a bit of a Deus ex machina element it definitely made the movie much more attractive, at least for me.

   Something I quite liked about the story is that it didn't abuse the fact that "we're in a horrible situation, let's behave like the worst human beings", I think the attitude of the characters was maintained throughout the film and while there is the character who goes crazy and wants to kill everyone, it's not because he's a horrible human being, but because an external agent intervenes in his behavior.

   La historia es bastante sencilla y llega un punto en el que se vuelve ligeramente predecible, ya sabemos que la hierba es mala y que alguien se va a volver loco y va a comenzar matar a todos (es una obra de Stephen King, que no se nos olvide), en eso me recordó “The Mist”, con la diferencia de que en esta, la hierba es un poco más “juguetona” que la niebla y quizás menos letal, pero esta a la vez tiene algo que a mí particularmente me llama la atención en cualquier película, aunque para hablar de eso quiero debo avisar que viene un SPOILER importante en el siguiente párrafo.

   Hay dos saltos de tiempo muy trascendentales en la historia que para mí la hicieron mucho más interesante, porque ya me estaba pareciendo bastante predecible, pero ese giro fue refrescante e hizo que la película volviera a captar mi atención, como les he comentado en publicaciones anteriores, tengo un punto débil por los viajes en el tiempo y saltos temporales, me parecen fascinantes, y aunque en la película es un elemento un poco Deus ex machina definitivamente hizo mucho más atractiva la película, al menos para mí.

   Algo que me gustó bastante de la historia es que no se abusó del hecho de “estamos en una situación horrible, vamos a comportarnos como los peores seres humanos”, creo que la actitud de los personajes se mantuvo a lo largo de la película y si bien sí existe el personaje que se vuelve loco y quiere matar a todos, no es porque es un ser humano horrible, sino porque un agente externo interviene en su comportamiento.

   Visually, I must say that I did not like it at all, there are scenes that are too dark and I had a hard time distinguishing what was happening, I had to watch them on TV and then watch them again on the phone to raise the brightness to the top to, more or less, understand what was happening, I do not know if it was my myopia attacking, but it was really desperate to have to repeat the night scenes because I could not distinguish anything.

   In addition to this, being surrounded all the time by grass, the scenes become a bit monotonous and repetitive, of course I understand that this is precisely part of the desperation of being trapped in that place, but I think there were details that could have been handled better because in several shots they had the opportunity to generate more tension, but precisely because of the grass the focus of what was lurking behind it was lost.

   Visualmente, debo decir que no me gustó para nada, hay escenas que están demasiado oscuras y me costó bastante distinguir lo que estaba pasando, las tuve que ver en la TV y después volverlas a ver en el teléfono para poder subirle el brillo al tope para, más o menos, entender lo que estaba pasando, no sé si fue mi miopía atacando, pero fue realmente desesperante tener que repetir las escenas nocturnas porque no distinguía nada.

   Sumado a esto, al estar rodeados todo el tiempo de hierba, las escenas se vuelven un poco monótonas y repetitivas, claro que entiendo que eso es precisamente parte de la desesperación de estar atrapados en ese lugar, pero creo que hubo detalles que se pudieron manejar mejor porque en varias tomas tuvieron la oportunidad de generar más tensión, pero precisamente por la hierba se perdía el foco de lo que se encontraba asechando detrás de esta.

   Actorally, there is not much more to highlight because there are really few characters involved in the story and there are no moments that demand a great acting work, nor does it delve into the history of each one, despite being only six characters we never really get to know them, their stories are treated in a very superficial way.

   In this section one of the things that surprised and pleased me was to see Patrick Wilson (Insidious, The Conjuring) who lately has been becoming quite famous in the horror genre, I think he is one of the best elements of the story and his presence helps to build the atmosphere of tension that reigns in much of the film.

   Although I must accept that the character of Tobin, the boy who asks for help, was the one that generated the most "fear" in me, I found him really creepy, actually there was absolutely nothing strange about the character, but I don't know why I was so disturbed by his look and his presence.

   Actoralmente, no hay mucho más que destacar porque son realmente pocos los personajes que intervienen en la historia y no hay momentos que demanden un gran trabajo actoral, tampoco se profundiza en la historia de cada uno, a pesar de ser solo seis personajes nunca llegamos a conocerlos realmente, sus historias son tratadas de forma sumamente superficial.

   En este apartado una de las cosas que me sorprendió y me agradó fue ver a Patrick Wilson (Insidious, The Conjuring) quien últimamente se ha ido haciendo bastante famoso en el género del terror, creo él que es uno de los mejores elementos de la historia y su presencia ayuda a construir el ambiente de tensión que reina en buena parte de la película.

   Aunque debo aceptar que el personaje de Tobin, el niño que pide ayuda, fue el que más “miedo” me generó, me parecía verdaderamente espeluznante, en realidad no tenía absolutamente nada de raro el personaje, pero no sé por qué a mí me perturbaba tanto su mirada y su presencia.

   What I liked the most

   • The tension that builds within the grass due to the uncertainty of not understanding what was going on, both on the part of the characters and the viewer, it is a film that leaves you with the feeling of not knowing what you are seeing.

   • The twist that gives the plot to show us a key point within the "powers" possessed (and granted) by the grass.

   Lo que más me gustó

   • La tensión que se va construyendo dentro de la hierba por la incertidumbre de no entender lo que estaba pasando, tanto por parte de los personajes, como por parte del espectador, es una película que te deja con la sensación de ni saber lo que se está viendo.
   • El giro que da la trama al mostrarnos un punto clave dentro de los “poderes” que posee (y que otorga) la hierba.

   What I liked least

   • Actually, there were no moments of true terror, it remained only suspenseful and there were times when even that fell short.

   • The night scenes were too dark for me to properly make out what was going on.

   • En realidad, no hubo momentos de verdadero terror, se quedó solamente en suspenso y hubo momentos en los que hasta eso se quedó corto.

   Despite all its flaws I found it quite entertaining, as I said before, there were moments that I found really disturbing and that only made me think "it had to be Stephen King" and I think it should be understood as that.

   It is a story that lives within King's "magical" universe in which all the time and everywhere supernatural and terrifying things happen just for the sake of being, there are not too many explanations, also taking into account that the origin story is a tale, it is logical that it does not go too deep neither in the place nor in the characters and I think it is not necessary either, sometimes complex and logical stories are not necessary to enjoy a movie.

   Definitely, it is not a production that I recommend to everyone, because I think not everyone enjoys this kind of productions, as many may feel frustrated with the lack of explanations and logical sense, but if you are familiar with the narrative style of Stephen King, I think you can enjoy this film, even if it is just to see a few disturbing scenes. What I do warn you is that don't expect to see something scary or that will make you jump out of your skin, this is not the movie for that.

   Overall I found it to be a pretty average production, which I really doubt I will ever see again, it doesn't stand out too much in any aspect, although it's not complete crap either, for me, it falls somewhere in the middle, maybe a little disappointing, to give you an idea, if I had to give it a score I would give it a 5 out of 10.

   A pesar de todas sus fallas yo la encontré bastante entretenida, como les dije anteriormente, hubo momentos que me parecieron realmente perturbadores y que solamente me hicieron pensar “tenía que ser de Stephen King” y creo que debe ser entendida como eso.

   Es una historia que vive dentro del universo “mágico” de King en el que todo el tiempo y en todo lugar suceden cosas sobrenaturales y aterradoras simplemente por el hecho de ser, no hay demasiadas explicaciones, además tomando en cuenta que la historia de origen es un cuento, es lógico que no se profundice demasiado ni en el lugar ni en los personajes y creo que tampoco hace falta, a veces no son necesarias historias complejas y lógicas para poder disfrutar de una película.

   Definitivamente, no es una producción que le recomiende a todo el mundo, porque creo que no todos disfrutan de este tipo de producciones, ya que muchos se pueden sentir frustrados ante la falta de explicaciones y sentido lógico, pero si están familiarizados con el estilo narrativo de Stephen King, creo que sí podrán disfrutar de esta película, aunque sea para ver unas cuantas escenas perturbadoras. Lo que sí les advierto es que no esperen ver algo aterrador o que los haga saltar del miedo, esta no es la película para eso.

   En general me pareció una producción bastante regular, que realmente dudo mucho que vuelva a ver, no destaca demasiado en ningún aspecto, aunque tampoco es una completa porquería completa, para mí se queda en un punto medio, quizás un poco decepcionante, para que se den una idea, si tuviera que darle un puntaje le daría un 5 de 10 y creo que me estoy arriesgando.

   It's always good to pay attention to some recommendations out there, and when we talk about movies that are adaptations of Stephen King's works, the interest for many becomes overwhelming. Psychological horror has always been one of my favorites, I've always bet on a good narrative with shots that leave you intrigued and waiting for a good thrill. In the Tall Grass is one of those horror films that leave you hooked, with a simple but powerful story that takes us with ascending subtlety to a plot that will keep us in its clutches until the end. Below, I present to you my review of this work.

   Siempre es bueno hacer caso a algunas recomendaciones por ahí, y cuando hablamos de películas que son adaptaciones de obras de Stephen King, el interés para muchos se vuelve avasallante. El terror psicológico siempre ha sido de mis preferidos, siempre he apostado por una buena narrativa con unos planos que te dejan intrigado y a la espera de un buen pasmo. In the Tall Grass, es de esos filmes de horror que te dejan enganchado, con una historia simple pero poderosa y que nos adentra con ascendente sutileza a una trama que nos mantendrá en sus garras hasta el final. A continuación, presento ante ustedes mi crítica de esta obra.

   Synopsis

   Cal and Becky are two siblings driving along a highway in Kansas to see their parents, but they stop at the edge of a large pasture; with unusually tall grass that makes one think it is an abandoned lot. Hearing the screams of a child crying for help in the grass, they go inside to help him but after several hours of walking seemingly in circles, they realize that something is wrong, and terror begins to play inside their minds until they are subdued in agonizing situations.

   Cal y Becky son dos hermanos que conducían por una carretera en Kansas para ver a sus padres, pero se detienen a la orilla de un gran pastizal; con una hierba inusualmente muy alta que hace pensar que es un terreno abandonado. Al escuchar los gritos de un niño pidiendo auxilio dentro de la hierba, se internan para ayudarlo pero luego de varias horas de caminar aparentemente en círculos, se dan cuenta que algo anda mal, y el terror comienza a hacer juego dentro de sus mentes hasta someterlos en situaciones agonizantes.

   Personal opinion

   The film plays very well with the psychological terror that hovers very much over the plot and its participants. We see at the beginning a powerful intrigue, which gradually ascends into a darker horror. We soon become aware of the terrible situations that the characters experience inside the weed, and the supernatural power it contains.

   Although the plot is interesting, I would have liked them to explain a little more about the magic or entity that dominates inside the grass, with just a little intrigue and characters trapped in a kind of giant spider web like flies I think it's not enough. The film is appreciated for using very well the resources to generate in the viewer an ascending anxiety, but that same element creates a powerful curiosity of wanting to unravel the mystery with words; since the suggestive images, although impressive, do not end up explaining to me what is happening in this place.

   The story is very good and the film made me want to read King's work and his son, (a plus for this film), maybe in the book I will get more information about this demonic herb. Vincenzo Natali, is a director who had already worked with this kind of plots, where the timeless plays such an important role and influences a lot in the lives of the characters. I had already seen his film Cube (1997), which has a plot very similar to this one, but everything happened inside a cube, which functioned as a kind of prison where time and space had no dominion. Perhaps the producers chose him for his experience in this kind of plots, and if so, he has been an excellent choice.

   But as it happens here and in Cube, the plot does not fully explain the origin of the situation we are contemplating. However, it does an excellent job of keeping us intrigued and keeping us curious for the mystery to unravel. The performances of Laysla De Oliveira, our beloved antagonist in Locke and Key and that of Harrison Gilbertson have been quite convincing, especially in the moments of tension and horror where they have manifested their expressions very masterfully. There is also the fabulous performance of Patrick Wilson, who has created a character worthy of fear and loathing, the famous actor starring in Insidious and The Conjuring saga, brings us a performance of several layers of personality until revealing his true nature.

   We can't deny that these levels of tension unsettle us and with Craig Wrobleski's stunning cinematography, we get a glimpse of the exhaustion, fear and anxiety levels through the characters' gazes. Although the plot becomes a bit clumsy towards the last twenty minutes, it manages to sustain itself by following the story and the decisive moment where it leaves us surprised with a timeless ending; a special resource within the plot.

   Opinión personal

   La película juega muy bien con el terror psicológico que flota muy sobre la trama y sus participantes. Vemos al principio una poderosa intriga, que va ascendiendo gradualmente hasta convertirse en un horror más oscuro. Pronto nos damos cuenta de las terribles situaciones que viven los personajes dentro de la hierba, y el poder sobrenatural que esta contiene.

   Aunque la trama es interesante, me hubiera gustado que explicaran un poco más sobre la magia o entidad que domina dentro de la hierba, con solo un poco de intriga y personajes atrapados en una especie de telaraña gigante como moscas creo que no es suficiente. Se le agradece al filme por usar muy bien los recursos para generar en el espectador una ascendente ansiedad, pero ese mismo elemento crea una poderosa curiosidad de querer desentrañar el misterio con palabras; puesto que las imágenes sugestivas, aunque son impresionantes, no terminan de explicarme lo que está ocurriendo en este lugar.

   La historia es muy buena y la película me incentivó a querer leer la obra de King y su hijo, (un punto a favor para este filme), quizás en el libro consiga más información sobre esa hierba demoniaca. Vincenzo Natali, es un director que ya había trabajado con este tipo de tramas, en donde lo atemporal juega un papel tan importante e influye mucho en la vida de los personajes. Ya había visto su película Cube (1997), la cual tiene una trama muy parecida a esta, pero todo sucedía dentro de un cubo, que funcionaba como una especie de prisión donde el tiempo y el espacio no tenían dominio. Quizás los productores lo eligieron a él por su experiencia en este tipo de argumentos, y si fue así, ha sido una excelente elección.

   Pero como pasa aquí y en Cube la trama no te termina de explicar por completo el origen de la situación que estamos contemplando. Sin embargo, hace un excelente trabajo de mantenernos en la intriga y sostenernos con la curiosidad de que se desvele el misterio. Las actuaciones de Laysla De Oliveira, nuestra querida antagonista en Locke and Key y la de Harrison Gilbertson han sido bastante convincentes, especialmente en los momentos de tensión y horror en que han manifestado sus expresiones con mucha maestría. También está la fabulosa actuación de Patrick Wilson, quien ha creado un personaje digno de temer y detestar, el famoso actor protagonista de Insidious y la saga de The Conjuring, nos trae una actuación de varias capas de personalidad hasta desvelar su verdadera naturaleza.

   No podemos negar que esos niveles de tensión nos alteran y con la impactante fotografía de Craig Wrobleski, logramos vislumbrar el cansancio, el miedo y los niveles de ansiedad a través de las miradas de los personajes. Aunque la trama se vuelve algo torpe ya hacia los últimos veinte minutos, logra sostenerse siguiendo la historia y el momento decisivo donde nos deja sorprendidos con un final atemporal; recurso especial dentro de la trama.

   Conclusions

   In the Tall Grass is a very good adaptation of King's novel with his son. It handles the intrigue well which leaves us drawn in. It uses feasible elements so we are not left with the idea of a bunch of people trapped in a maze-like grassy knoll. There is suspense, there are gore scenes and I consider it a soft horror, since you are not going to find scary scenes that make you jump out of your chair, it is a more psychological horror where the moments of anxiety and tension are the ones that count.

   Conclusiones

   In the Tall Grass, es una adaptación muy buena de la novela de King con su hijo. Maneja bien la intriga la cual nos deja atraídos. Utiliza elementos factibles para no quedarnos con la idea de un montón de gente atrapada en un monte de hierbas laberíntico. Hay suspenso, hay escenas gore y la considero un terror suave, ya que no vas a encontrar escenas de susto que te hagan saltar de la silla, es un terror más psicológico donde los momentos de ansiedad y tensión son los que valen.

   Have you ever seen a movie the setting of which is very simple, yet the story is still as compelling as other stories with really fascinating settings? I bet the movie entitled, ***"In the Tall Grass"*** is one of them.

   The story started when the siblings, Becky and Cal, headed to San Diego. Becky is pregnant and while they were on the road, she started to have nausea or morning sickness, so Cal decided to pull over. As Becky was trying to eject some stuff from her stomach, she heard a little boy crying out for help.
   She and her brother decided to help out, so she went out of the car as Cal try to park it on the other side of the road which is beside an old church. They tried to talk with the little boy who claimed that his name was Tobin and guided him to just follow their voice, but to no avail.
   Becky was reluctant to enter the field, but Cal decided to enter and pretended to be a "superhero" who'd save the boy, so Becky couldn't do anything but follow him. And so the awful adventure in the tall grass began.

   As they wandered around the field, they became more and more confused. Tobin's voice is somewhat heard nearby at some point, and suddenly becomes distant. They also both panicked when they got separated from each other. In order to check their position, they jumped with their arms raised as seen in the picture above. *Oh! Not very far from each other.* However, when they jumped a second time, they're so much farther away. That's when they confirmed that the field's space is distorted. Will they ever find each other in the field?

   If you check the trailer above from 1:10 to 1:16, you'd get the answer to my previous question. Yes, it's possible to find someone in this one heck of a field, but it's easier when they're dead.
   I thought it was just about a moving field or distorted space at first, but I thought wrong until another character appeared. This character is called Travis and he is the father of child inside Becky's womb. And when he appeared, another mystery was presented. It's not just space, but even time is distorted in this field. Basically, the characters are in a constant loop of distorted space and time. *Crazy, isn't it?*

   In the heart of the field lays a mysterious rock. This rock plays a great role as a key in understanding the field and the story. *(I won't delve more into it because it might be a major spoiler.* However, I'd tell that these rock has several carvings on it which are like rituals done by some ancient cult of some sort. Also, I believe that this rock is the heart of the whole field. If you're curious of the story, feel free to watch it!!!

   I personally enjoyed the movie despite it being simple *(in terms of settings and technical stuff)*. When we talk about horror films, mostly the special effects, the sound effects, the jumpscare should be considered. Technically, this movie lacked in all of them. However, I love the concept of distorted space and time. I love how alternate universe began to merge and make things more complicated. It's a personal thing, so you might not be into such complexity. I just want to hurt my brain sometimes by thinking why something is like this and that.
   It wasn't scary, but brain-racking and utterly perplexing. I also just discovered that the movie was actually based from a novel written by "the" Stephen King and his son Joe Hill. It made me want to read the novel because I might find clearer answers to my questions. I mean, I don't totally understand the movie per se, I only assumed and concluded some explanation by myself.
   I stumbled upon some reviews regarding this movie and most of them are on the negative side. Well, it's their opinion and I bet we all have our own perspectives on things, including movies. A lot may not like it, but I think otherwise. I won't really recommend it that much, but if you're into the thought of wanting to be tortured by confusion, then I bet this movie is for you. :)

7. ›In the Tall Grass (film) : An awful film by Stephen King and his son@gooddream2458d

   When you think about the legends of modern horror, Stephen King would definitely be near the top of that list or perhaps on the top of it. That being said, if we compiled a list of great Stephen King films and compared them to the list of terrible Stephen King films, there might be an equal amount on both sides. This one definitely belongs in the "terrible" section.

   I really enjoy horror films and have been at a loss lately to find anything new that can even be remotely considered good. so when I saw there was a new Stephen King film I thought there was a good chance it would be a real winner... and was terribly wrong.

   The story is supernatural in nature and just as the name would literally suggest, the entire film takes place inside an area of tall grass. Horror and suspense are provided by a sense of claustrophobia provided by the grass itself. The tall grass is possessed by some sort of evil power. Once you enter the tall grass, you can't get out simply by turning around. Time and space are dictated by the grass and some evil rock that lies in the middle of it.

   The first people to enter are a brother and sister combo who pull over in rural Kansas because the pregnant sister needs to throw up. Once done with that ordeal, they hear a young boy shouting for help. His voice sounds very close so they both run into the field to find him, only to get frustrated because no matter how far they go into the field his voice doesn't seem to get any closer. They become hopelessly lost in the field and no matter how far they walk in any direction, they don't ever get any closer to an exit. They can't even find one another. That's pretty much the entire film.

   There are a lot of annoying elements to this movie such as continual arguing among everyone which i suppose was necessary to fill the 90 minutes since there is no real plot here. Plus the "feeling boxed in" eerie-ness that the tall grass provides kind of wears thin after 5 minutes or so.

   Then of course there is the glaring inconsistencies such as the various scenes that are presented where the grass is extremely NOT tall. Plus Tobin (the little boy pictured above and the person who beckoned them into the field in the first place) switches back and forth from being evil to being one of the "good guys" and again, there is nothing in the film that presents why this would happen.

   I have been lured in to many a Stephen King film based solely upon his name being attached to it. The last couple of King movies I saw that were actually really good weren't actually horror films at all (Shawshank and Green Mile.) I don't know if King has just exhausted all of his horror ideas (which would be understandable since he has been doing this for 50 years or so) but this is just another one of those skippable films that fails to deliver in any sort of appealing way.

   By the time the story is finished you are not surprised by the result... mostly you are just glad the movie is over. If I were to compile a list of horror films from best to worst, this one would be near the end on the "bad" side of the spectrum.
