[Films Critics] Remember the Titans

Review by @jsxchemistry · 2437d · of Remember the Titans

The movies with sports themes are undoubtedly my favorite because they generate a natural emotional response, especially when they are seasoned with racial or dramatic themes that increase the intensity of the story making it more credible and above all mature. One of those stories is without a doubt Remember the Titans, a film that makes use of sport as its main element and shows us in detail the way in which a group of young people managed to defeat racism and unite a people under the unbridled song of victory, a group of young people who joined as brothers and got everything they wanted to do.

# # Going deeper into story. # Remember the Titans is a film that lets us explore the true story of one of the most successful college football teams in history, a team that was formed through sacrifice, discipline and acceptance. The plot lets us see the whole process of union of a group of young white boys who had to accept as part of their college football team a group of young black boys who by the work of "fate" joined them under the leadership of a new coach with the fervent goal of winning and being the best in the country. Do not think that everything was easy after all the story is set in an era where freedom of speech and class was not common, an era full of racism and social prejudices that dictated the standards of society. Basically through the film we see how a group of young people, black and white, manage to bond under the command of a tough and disciplined coach without any filters when it comes to acting, a coach who forced them to bond through psychological strategies that allowed them to return to the group of young people in brothers of different colors. #

# That is precisely what makes this film intense and interesting, the constant class struggle that is reflected in young athletes but that little by little we see fall thanks to the success of a team that was able to unite people of all classes and colors, different people who through the furor of the victory managed to live together in peace. But do not believe that this is only an intense film about the struggle and victory over racism, this is also a film with tremendous sporting passages where we see the path that must have taken a team of young people to win and be respected by all.

A plot where not everything is victory, racism and struggle; this is also a film full of emotion reflected in the feeling of brotherhood that a group of young people developed and had to protect, a group of young people who joined outside the camp to share important moments and moments of sadness where tragedy hit them. This is undoubtedly a film that manages to make several stories work in the same atmosphere.

# # The Titans # Undoubtedly the highest point of this film is the American football team, as they are the driving element of the plot, these young men are who throughout the film highlight all the good and bad aspects of people. The way in which the scriptwriters designed characters with different personalities so that we have a wide range of opinions is sensational and make us connect in a fantastic way with the story. Here we do not have a cliché character, in this film athletes are exposed as people off the field, people who must constantly face intense realities that affect their performance in the field but in the end make them stronger and above all capable of achieving anything. The fact that the film is from the 2000 year allows us to see brilliant and recognized actors of today shining in incredible roles with performances that marked the tempo of the plot filling it with unforgettable moments. This film does not lower its tone at any time, is basically a complete festival of high notes where we will always be witnessing something memorable, something that contributes to the story is different and exciting. #

# Not only the work of the young people who play the titans is great, but also Denzel Washington characterizing the coach is something vital and incomparable, he becomes the father figure of a group of young people with problems that needed discipline and that someone believed in them, Washington manages to extract the best of the young people forcing them to be better through union and brotherhood. The way in which this man partially transforms himself into an unbreakable, hard man, but who loves his players is fascinating, because it makes different nuances of a perfectly constructed character stand out. # # Final Thoughts. # Without a doubt this is a film that is in my top of films because it manages to show a deeper side of sport, turning it into a determining element for the union and coexistence of the classes that regularly hate each other and are at war with each other. This film undoubtedly constitutes a great sample of what success and victory can do with the most closed minds, minds that are forced to change and adapt to the general clamour.

This is a film that using a very well constructed plot through racism and sport manages to make an outstanding social critique focusing on more positive elements, thus allowing the plot to be enjoyed with intense moments that do not tarnish it but make it better.

An excellent script combined with very good performances and sports scenes make this film a real jewel worthy of being seen hundreds of times.

My Score: 8,4/10
