Creed III (2023) - Reseña (ESP/ENG)

Creed III es una película especial porque el protagonista Michael B. Jordan es también el director, me parece admirable que el tipo sea capaz de manejar ambos papeles al mismo tiempo, no debe ser nada fácil de hacer. La película comienza con Adonis Creed estando feliz con su familia y disfrutando de la vida tras retirarse del boxeo. Al principio de la historia nos vamos al 2002 cuando Adonis estaba joven junto a su amigo llamado Damian o Dame de cariño. Adonis y él eran inseparables, Dame era el boxeador de moda, y Adonis no era más que un compinche, pero entonces un mal día Dame es llevado a la comisaría y es condenado a 18 años de cárcel y Adonis, en cambio, se convierte en el campeón que conocemos a mitad de la película. Luego la película da un salto al presente y aparece Dame que ha salido de la cárcel y está listo para volver al ring de boxeo, aquí es donde la historia comienza a complicarse. Después Adonis se siente algo culpable por cómo pasaron las cosas e intenta conseguirle a Dame un trabajo en su gimnasio, pero Dame no se conforma con eso, él quiere dar pasos grandes y de una forma turbia Dame consigue una oportunidad para pelear por el título contra el actual campeón Félix Chávez y como si nada gana el cinturón, esto lleva a la gran pelea entre Adonis y Dame que desde el principio de la película sabía que iba a pasar.

Como mencioné anteriormente  Michael B. Jordan es el protagonista de esta película Adonis Creed y tiene el personaje dominado, sin embargo para mí la actuación más impresionante es la de Dame, interpretado por Jonathan Majors, este tipo es apasionante, tiene una especie de rabia contenida que te hace pensar que puede estallar en cualquier momento, hay una escena en la que está comiendo con Adonis y su familia, y puedes sentir la tensión hay como resentimiento y odio en su interior, Majors no tiene que hablar mucho porque es capaz de transmitir todo a través de los ojos y su expresión corporal. Hay mucha química entre los dos personajes que se junta con el drama, problemas del pasado y odio. Tessa Thompson retoma su papel de Bianca y vuelve a brillar, siento que hay una verdadera historia entre ella y Adonis, y se nota que llevan años desarrollando esta conexión. Y Mila Davis-Kent que hace el papel de Amara la hija de Adonis tiene mucha actitud y hace un excelente papel.

Esta es la primera vez que Jordan dirige una película y me parece que lo ha hecho bastante bien, las peleas en el ring son lo mejor, la pelea final tiene un plano que es genial y muy original es algo que no se puede negar pero creo que la historia en sí es algo predecible porque es la misma historia de viejos mejores amigos que se convierten en enemigos, aunque los actores hacen que sea algo más que el típico cliché de una película de deportes, también lamenté que Rocky no apareciera en esta película porque es una figura importante en esta franquicia pero entiendo que esta película en torno a Adonis. Entonces me encuentro con opinión dividida, hay muchas cosas que me gustan como los actores, las peleas y creo que intentan dar un aire nuevo a la serie y hay otras cosas que no me llaman la atención y me aburren como la historia entre Adonis y Dame, hubiese sido mejor tener una idea más clara de cómo se relacionaban, lo que pasan en la película son unos cortos  pero yo deseaba más, me hubiese gustado entender la intensidad de su relación y cómo las experiencias pasadas les afectaron a ambos.

En cuanto al final esa intensa pelea de 12 asaltos me puso tensa y Adonis salió vencedor, pero en lugar de en lugar de ganar por las malas hay un cambio y Adonis pide perdón a Dame por haberle abandonado todos estos años y Dame le da a Adonis su merecido como boxeador y como hombre, es un momento de reconciliación que no me esperaba y, sinceramente, me ha gustado. El final se relaciona con uno de los temas principales de la película que tiene que ver con la forma de cómo afrontar algo malo que ocurrió en el pasado, en toda la película se puede ver cómo Adonis sufre por la culpa de lo que le ocurre a Dame y a su vez éste se siente frustrado por el sentimiento de abandono. La última parte es algo más que una pelea son estos dos hombres sacando toda esa rabia reprimida que llevan por dentro durante años dentro del ring de boxeo, después de eso son capaces de soltar y dejarlo en el pasado. Es una forma bastante madura de terminar una película de boxeo, y me gusta que no hayan tomado el camino del héroe castiga al malo como se ve muy seguido en las películas. En fin Creed III es buena de ver, aunque no la puedo contar como una de las mejores películas de la serie, lo que más me ha gustado fue las peleas de boxeo y los temas sobre el perdón y dejar atrás el pasado, yo le doy un 6,7/10.

The movie starts with Adonis Creed being happy with his family and enjoying life after retiring from boxing. At the beginning of the story we go back to 2002 when Adonis was young with his friend named Damian or Dame de affection. He and Adonis were inseparable, Dame was the hot boxer, and Adonis was nothing more than a sidekick, but then one bad day Dame is taken to the police station and sentenced to 18 years in jail and Adonis instead becomes the champion we meet halfway through the film. Then the film jumps to the present and Dame appears who has been released from prison and is ready to get back in the boxing ring, this is where the story starts to get complicated. Then Adonis feels a little guilty about how things happened and tries to get Dame a job at his gym, but Dame is not satisfied with that, he wants to take big steps and in a shady way Dame gets a title fight opportunity against the current champion Felix Chavez and just like that he wins the belt, this leads to the big fight between Adonis and Dame that from the beginning of the movie I knew was going to happen.

As I mentioned before Michael B. Jordan is the main character in this movie Adonis Creed and he has the character mastered, however for me the most impressive performance is that of Dame, played by Jonathan Majors, this guy is passionate, he has a kind of contained rage that makes you think he can explode at any moment, there is a scene where he is eating with Adonis and his family, and you can feel the tension there is like resentment and hate inside him, Majors doesn't have to talk much because he is able to transmit everything through his eyes and his body expression. There is a lot of chemistry between the two characters that comes together with drama, past problems and hatred. Tessa Thompson reprises her role as Bianca and shines again, I feel like there is a real history between her and Adonis, and you can tell they have been developing this connection for years. And Mila Davis-Kent who plays Amara the daughter of Adonis has a lot of attitude and plays an excellent role.

This is Jordan's first time directing a movie and I think he has done quite well, the fights in the ring are the best, the final fight has a shot that is great and very original is something that cannot be denied but I think the story itself is somewhat predictable because it is the same story of old best friends who become enemies, although the actors make it something more than the typical cliché of a sports movie, I also regretted that Rocky did not appear in this movie because he is an important figure in this franchise but I understand that this movie around Adonis. So I find myself with divided opinion, there are many things I like like like the actors, the fights and I think they try to give a new air to the series and there are other things that don't catch my attention and bore me like the story between Adonis and Dame, it would have been better to have a clearer idea of how they related, what they spend in the movie are some short but I wished for more, I would have liked to understand the intensity of their relationship and how past experiences affected them both.

As for the ending that intense 12 round fight made me tense and Adonis came out on top, but instead of instead of instead of winning the hard way there is a change and Adonis apologizes to Dame for abandoning him all these years and Dame gives Adonis his due as a boxer and as a man, it's a moment of reconciliation that I wasn't expecting and honestly I liked it. The ending relates to one of the main themes of the film which has to do with how to deal with something bad that happened in the past, throughout the film you can see how Adonis suffers from the guilt of what happens to Dame and in turn Dame is frustrated by the feeling of abandonment. The last part is more than just a fight it's these two men taking out all that pent up anger they carry inside for years inside the boxing ring, after that they are able to let go and leave it in the past. It's a pretty mature way to end a boxing movie, and I like that they didn't go the hero punishes bad guy route like you see so often in movies. Anyway Creed III is good to watch, although I can't count it as one of the best movies in the series, what I liked the most was the boxing fights and the themes of forgiveness and letting go of the past, I give it a 6.7/10.
