Yesterday was one of those evenings when finding something good to watch seemed impossible.
I wanted to check out some of the films or series, and after 30 minutes, I had already started and abandoned four movies and two TV series. I was actually in a mood for a light comedy, but since I could not find something suitable at the moment, I went to check out thrillers, and this one seemed interesting.
(I found out later that the film, The Woman in the Window (2021) is based on the 2018 bestselling psychological thriller The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn.)
I will not lie.
At first I was captivated. The actors were acting. The atmosphere was just as it should be. There was a mystery waiting to be discovered, you could feel it.
With actors starring Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Julianne Moore and Anthony Mackie, who would not give the film a chance?

The story follows Anna Fox, who is suffering from agoraphobia and spends most of her time inside her house. All she does is observing the world through her windows, meeting with her psychiatrist, and enjoying quality time with her cat (this one really got me to follow her story)
After a looong wait of something to happen, finally something changes the plot and you understand that things are chasing and we are starting to participate. What was that? How did it happen? Who did it?
Anna is she witnesses disturbing actions in a neighbouring house, and everything starts to seem more interesting.
As the movie progresses, there are mysterious events, suspicious characters and a few plot twists that make you question what you think you know. I admit that some moments did manage to catch my attention and make me wonder what was really going on.
Was it what I expected? No.
Don't get me wrong, the Woman in the Window is not a terrible film. The atmosphere is quite good, the performances are respectable, and the story has enough mystery to keep you curious at certain points.
After finishing the movie, I checked IMDb and noticed its 5.7/10 rating.
Suddenly, the rating made perfect sense. Perhaps I should have checked it before pressing play!
Not a complete waste of time, but certainly not a movie I would rush to recommend.
Have you watched The Woman in the Window? Did you enjoy the ending, or were you left expecting something more? And if you've read the book, is it better than the movie?
