I have been pleased to see again a movie with a story that turns into a nightmare, but in a way that could be considered very particular. After a good friend told me about it, we talked a little about the plot, but I wanted to see it again to refresh the details that make it a must-see for lovers of suspense and action thrillers. I am referring to the film No country for old men or "No place for the weak" according to its Spanish title, released in 2007 and directed by the Americans Ethan and Joel Coen.

Luego de que un buen amigo me hablara de esta, conversamos un poco sobre la trama, pero quise volver a verla para refrescar los detalles, que la convierten en una cita obligada para los amantes de los thrillers de suspenso y acción. Me refiero al filme No country for old men o "Sin lugar para los débiles" según su título para Hispanoamérica, estrenada en el año 2007 y dirigida por los estadounidenses Ethan y Joel Coen.
I should start by mentioning that one of the "new" things I noticed in this review, was about the development of several stories according to the perspective of the main characters, played by the sheriff Ed Tom Bell (played by Tommy Lee Jones); and that I like to see him always in law enforcement jobs, actually he has always been very good in this role, but this time his character has a different attitude from the previous ones, he is no longer the dominant and implacable guy, but rather a softer cop, perhaps because of his visible senectitude, something totally understandable.
Debo comenzar por mencionar que una de las cosas "nuevas" que noté en esta revisión, fue sobre el desarrollo de varias historias según la perspectiva de los personajes principales, encarnados por el sheriff Ed Tom Bell (interpretado por Tommy Lee jones); y que me agrada verle siempre en trabajos de agente de la ley, en realidad siempre le ha sentado muy bien este rol, pero que en esta ocasión su personaje tiene una actitud diferente a las anteriores, ya no es el tipo dominante e implacable, sino más bien un policía más blando, quizás por su visible senectud, algo totalmente entendible.

After digesting that opener, I went on to visualize the second story within the plot, that of the good Llewelyn Moss (played by Josh Brolin); an ordinary guy to whom something happens that can happen to all of us and that marked his life. A man who made a decision that affected his future, but in the least thought way. It is always strange to see that a dream finding ends up turning into the opposite, how ironic!

Un hombre que tomó una decisión que afectó su futuro, pero en la manera menos pensada. Es extraño ver siempre que, un hallazgo de ensueño, termina convirtiéndose en todo lo contrario ¡Qué ironía!
And the third situation has to do with a character that surpassed any expectation on my part; someone who reminds us with his cold and unexpected style, that the worst villain is the one who doesn't appear to be one to others. This guy really needs no further introduction, as the name Anton Chigurh (played masterfully by Javier Bardem) alone seems to take on a life of its own. This work by Bardem is so precise, that Anton seems to be a personification of his alter ego; leaving me with the impression that he is the man behind the actor, or that he simply has a life of his own, beyond the film. In short, it's something you have to see and evaluate for yourselves.

Undoubtedly, the course and supposed control of our lives is governed by the decisions we make at critical moments; there are even many of those moments that not even we can identify how critical and decisive they are to continue living or not (you have to ask the character of the gas station ha,ha,ha,ha); but the strange thing is that who apparently decides, does it with a kind of random game; that and his peculiar life-taking weapon, gives a particular dimension to the "fictional" character and the film as a whole. Because it not only torments Bell and Moss, but the viewer himself; something not very easy to achieve and that is applaudable from the Coen brothers.

The rest of the cast does a magnificent job, the plot is not the most impressive, but Josh, Javier and Tommy, are in charge of putting their strength and personal touch, that their extensive professional experiences have developed. I think that even as I watched the scenes unfold, I thought about whether I would take the money or just go on my way; because I also remembered my review of "A Simple Plan", where the dirty money also wreaked havoc. I even had a similar taste in my mouth, as it is the evil, which gives the feeling of prevailing in the end, however it is a very personal perception on my part.

Creo que incluso mientras veía transcurrir las escenas, pensaba en si estando en una situación similar, tomaba el dinero o solo seguía mi camino; porque también recordé mi reseña de "A simple plan", donde el cochino dinero también causó estragos. Inclusive tuve un sabor de boca parecido, ya que es el mal, el que da la sensación de prevalecer al final, no obstante es una percepción muy personal de mi parte.
As for the purely cinematographic aspects, I really liked the desert setting and the landscapes of the border area between the United States and Mexico. Long straight roads, under the inclement sun and being on the lookout for an almost indecipherable killer; it definitely did not make me feel the passage of time, since its two lengths pass between the suspense and anxiety of seeing something that is destined to happen, but we are afraid to see it happen. A blockbuster, award-winning and successful film that we should all enjoy even just once.
En cuanto a los aspectos meramente filmográficos, me gustó mucho la ambientación desértica y los paisajes propios de la zona fronteriza entre Estados Unidos con México. Carreteras prolongadas en línea recta, bajo el inclemente sol y estando al acecho de un asesino casi indescifrable; definitivamente no me hizo sentir el paso del tiempo, ya que sus dos duración, transcurren entre el suspenso y la ansiedad de ver algo que está destinado a suceder, pero que nos da miedo ver que suceda. Una película taquillera, galardonada y exitosa, que todos debemos disfrutar aunque sea por una sola vez.
