The Penguin Lessons (2024)

Review by @ladyaryastark 🏆#71 🔥1 🎵26 🎬23 📺3 · 1d · of The Penguin Lessons · 1 view

I like comedies — dark comedies, generally, because let's be honest, romantic comedies put me to sleep. Maybe that's why I liked this dramatic comedy, and why not admit it, its small co-star.

Spoiler

Because even though the human lead is an ordinary man, his friendship with the small co-star is the heart of the film. His life changes completely after he rescues a penguin.

This is one of the most recent films I've seen in a while, from just 2024, which is encouraging: good scripts are still being chosen, without needing to rely on famous, attractive faces.

Spoiler

In fact, our protagonist is a man already getting on in years, living a somewhat gray life, in a country that isn't his own, going through one of the worst periods in its history: the Argentine military dictatorship.

Although the film is based on the protagonist's own memoir, there are a few small artistic liberties added to make it a bit more dramatic. In my opinion, they weren't necessary, but they don't take away from the film's value.

Spoiler

Bring tissues, because some tears will be unavoidable, though there's more laughter than crying throughout the film — the ending is bittersweet, just like life itself.

I'd say this film is ideal to watch as a family, perhaps with children over 14, since it contains sensitive scenes, and it may be a good opportunity to talk about the world, politics, and the dangers of extremism.

This sounds like such a warm and emotional movie. I specially like stories where an unexpected friendship changes someone’s life. The penguin seems like the real star here.🐧❤️ Definitely adding this to my watchlist.

    Thanks !LADY Arya Stark.

Never seen or heard of this cinema. If it's an independent indie movie I'll put it on my movie night watchlist.
