------------------------------------------ The Disaster Artist is a dramatic comedy based on the true story of filmmaker Tommy Wiseau and actor Greg Sestero (played by brothers James and Dave Franco) and the performance of his infamous 2003 cult hit The Room. While the film may have easily ridiculed its characters, it celebrates its intent, and is very funny and moving. But it also has an extremely strong language, with uses of "f - k", "s - t", "p - y", "c - suction" and more. There is also almost complete male frontal nudity (the character uses something protective on the penis) and a naked male butt, plus a simulated sex scene made for the movie inside the film.Expect a little flirting and innuendo, too, as well as a lot of shouting and arguing. A weapon is shown and a mock suicide is performed for the cameras. Adults drink socially in a bar.
The film is directed by James Franco, actor, director and producer known for his prominent role in the Freaks and Geeks (1999). After fifteen months of intense study in Robert Carnegie's Playhouse West, James began to actively pursue his dream of finding work as an actor in Hollywood. In that short time, he achieved a leading role at the Freaks and Geeks (1999). The program, however, was not a success for its viewers at that time, and was canceled after its first year (Now it has become a cult hit). Before joining the Freaks and Geeks (1999), Franco starred in the television miniseries To Serve and Protect (1999). After that, he had a leading role in Whatever It Takes (2000).
Although he had been working constantly, it was not until the TNT movie made for television, James Dean (2001), that James jumped to the fame of the fan magazine and came to show his talent. Since then, he has been working non-stop. After losing the main role of Tobey Maguire, James settled for the role of "Harry Osborn", Spider-Man's best friend in the great summer 2002 hit Spider-Man (2002). He returned to the role of Osborn for the next two films in the trilogy.
Then they were Deuces Wild (2002) and City by the Sea (2002), in which Robert De Niro chose him personally, after seeing his performance in James Dean (2001). He was seen in David Gordon Green's Pineapple Express (2008) vs. Seth Rogen, in George C. Wolfe's Nights in Rodanthe (2008), starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane and Paul Haggis' In the Valley of Elah (2007), starring Tommy Lee Jones. He also starred with Sean Penn in Gus Van Sant's movie Milk (2008) in which his performance earned him an Independent Spirit award for best supporting actor.
WHAT'S THE STORY? In THE DISASTER ARTIST, the young San Francisco actor Greg Sestero (Dave Franco) takes classes and dreams of the big moment. During a class, he has been impressed by the intensity and courage of Tommy Wiseau (James Franco) and asks Tommy to be his acting partner. The two quickly become friends and move to Los Angeles together. After some years of trying and failing in the world of entertainment, they have an idea: they will make their own movie. Tommy, enigmatic and heavily accented, begins writing and, using his own mysterious bank account, seemingly bottomless, buying equipment, hiring staff and launching. When filming begins, it's clear that Tommy really does not know what he's doing. The tensions increase, and the movie goes beyond the schedule. But Tommy's passion somehow manages to keep things together. Finally, the movie, called The Room (2003), is finished. But, what if they have made the worst movie of all time?
