There are few anime that have excited and captivated me as much as Death Note, which despite being relatively short and somewhat old, has a plot based on thriller, mystery as well as the supernatural that no matter how many times you watch it, it will leave you just as fascinated as the first time.
In this post I will share my opinion with spoilers
Synopsis
Anime aired in 2006, Death Note (デスノート Desu Nōto) is a shōnen that tells the story of Yagami Light , a bright young Japanese man who generally lives a fairly ordinary life for a teenager. However, perhaps because of his great intelligence he often finds himself bored meditating on moral questions related to good and evil, and how the line between the two is very blurred...
One day he finds a notebook lying on the floor, he picks it up and notices that on the cover it enigmatically says Death Note. Captivated by curiosity, he searches through its pages and discovers that the instructions for using that notebook are described, which turns out to be a macabre tool since it indicates that its bearer can write down the name of a person, think about them while write it, and that person will automatically die.
Light now has an incredible power in his hands because he decides to try it and it works. But now, what will this boy do with the Death Note?
Death Note is a perfect example of an excellently well-written story. It begins, develops and ends in a perfect sequence with just enough detail to generate an impact on viewers in every way.
Starting with the basics, the animation for the time was quite good, I think that in the moments where the characters' expressions are quite exaggerated it is precisely with the purpose of highlighting Light's somewhat histrionic personality which makes us understand that the dude is not quite right in the head. The opening and endings are also the perfect complement to the animation, demonstrating the chaotic nature of the story.
Each character is memorable and has something remarkable that adds value to the plot, from Light's ruthless intelligence, L's coldness and calculation, Misa's naivety, Ryuk's indifference, Light's father's nobility. .. They all serve a purpose so the secondary characters don't feel like filler but are just as important as the protagonists.
As all the characters have adequate development, one can sympathize with all of them and even agree on their points of view on what happens, being able to see their justifications and how they fit into the puzzle of the story, because in essence it is a thriller anime
The story is entertaining to watch because it advances quickly, without taking long to develop each of the 37 chapters, making it easy to watch. Besides, it is so interesting that even though the ending is perfect, it leaves you wanting to continue watching more.
Furthermore, the relationship between L and Light, far from being based on hatred, is rather one of admiration and to a certain extent a challenge that is fun for them since despite being opposing characters, they really have many things in common, but each one uses them for different purposes. They notice these similarities and immediately see that they finally have a worthy rival who they can admire but also want to surpass. This is the ideal formula for a story of rivals, it is like having Batman and the Joker, that is, two sides of the same coin.
During the series they are in a game of cat and mouse, constantly on each other's trail trying to get ahead of their intentions, which for a thriller is perfect because it provides that excitement of knowing who will surpass the other and how will he achieve it.
On the other hand, there are the enigmatic creatures, the Shinigami or God of Death, which are inspired by Japanese mythology with considerable fidelity. Ryuk drops his Death Note out of simple boredom, to test what would happen and hopefully find entertainment. Of course he achieved his goal. I love this character since he is a true god, an immovable and apparently unfeeling being who treats humans as an inferior race that is simply interesting to watch, like someone observing the behavior of an insect.
Throughout the series he appears not to be affected at all by the calamities that occur, not even by the end of everything. This makes him a macabre and mysterious character with whom you can empathize because honestly his sinister humor is cool, but it also instills distrust. He is a very interesting representation of the supernatural since it is not focused on terror.
This anime poses several moral dilemmas, the main one being the justification of murder. Those who have already seen it will know that the issue arises when Light decides to murder criminals to "make the world a better place", which although it is a series of actions that seek the supposed well-being of the community, the truth is that the method is questionable. That's when the character of L comes in, to make Light question if what he does is really right.
Both have several moments where they discuss this issue with other characters and between each other, but of course the reflection is also left to the viewer. Considering that Light is capable of playing with his father's life, manipulating Misa by taking advantage of her admiration for him, and putting the lives of others at risk to achieve his goal, do you think Light was right?...
I sincerely grant some reason to both of them, since Light seems radical to me, but it is true that in many cases radical actions are the last necessary option to generate real change. Although L raises a valid point, which is that considering that someone can change the world alone by imposing their decision is an absurd delusion of grandeur, apart from the fact that no human being is morally superior enough to decide what to do with someone else's life. In that case, Light wouldn't be much different from the criminals he hated so much...

Hay pocos animes que me han emocionado y cautivado tanto como Death Note, que a pesar de ser relativamente corto y algo viejo ya, maneja una trama basada en el thriller, misterio así como lo sobrenatural que no importa cuántas veces lo veas, te dejará igual de fascinado que la primera vez.
En este post les compartiré mi opinión con spoilers
Sinopsis
Anime emitido en 2006, Death Note (デスノート Desu Nōto) es un shōnen que cuenta la historia de Yagami Light, un brillante joven japonés que en general lleva una vida bastante ordinaria para un adolescente. Sin embargo, quizá por su gran inteligencia él se encuentra frecuentemente aburrido meditando sobre cuestiones morales relacionadas al bien y el mal, y cómo la línea que separa ambas cosas es muy difusa...
Un día encuentra un cuaderno tirado en el piso, lo toma y nota que en la portada dice de manera enigmática Death Note («Libro de la muerte»). Cautivado por la curiosidad busca entre sus páginas y descubre que en ellas están descritas las instrucciones para usar ese cuaderno, el cual resulta ser una macabra herramienta puesto que indica que su portador puede anotar el nombre de una persona, pensar en ella mientras lo escribe, y esa persona automáticamente morirá.
Light ahora tiene un increíble poder en sus manos puesto que decide probarlo y funciona. Pero ahora, ¿qué hará este chico con el Death Note?
Death Note es un perfecto ejemplo de una historia excelentemente bien escrita. Comienza, se desarrolla y termina en una perfecta secuencia con el detalle justo para generar un impacto en los espectadores en todos los sentidos.
Comenzando por lo básico, la animación para la época estaba bastante bien, pienso que en los momentos donde las expresiones de los personajes son bastante exageradas es precisamente con el propósito de resaltar esa personalidad un tanto histriónica de Light lo cual nos hace entender que el tipo no está del todo bien de la cabeza. También los opening y endings son el complemento perfecto de la animación, demostrando a su vez lo caótico de la historia.
Cada personaje es memorable y tiene algo destacable que aporta un valor a la trama, desde la implacable inteligencia de Light, lo frío y calculador de L, la ingenuidad de Misa, la indiferencia de Ryuk, la nobleza del padre de Light... Todos cumplen un propósito por lo que los personajes secundarios no se sienten como relleno sino que son tan importantes como los protagonistas.
Como todos los personajes tienen el desarrollo adecuado, uno puede simpatizar con todos e incluso coincidir en sus puntos de vista sobre lo que ocurre, pudiendo ver sus justificaciones y cómo encajan en el rompecabezas de la historia, porque en esencia es un thriller animado
La historia se hace entretenida de ver porque tiene un avance rápido, sin demorar mucho en desarrollar cada uno de los 37 capítulos haciendo que sea fácil de ver, es más, es tan interesante que aunque el final sea perfecto, te deja con ganas de seguir viendo más.
Además la relación entre L y Light lejos de estar basada en odio es más bien de admiración y hasta cierto punto un reto que les resulta divertido puesto que a pesar de ser personajes enfrentados, ellos realmente tienen muchas cosas en común, pero cada uno las usa para fines distintos. Ellos notan estas similitudes e inmediatamente ven que por fin tienen un rival digno a quien pueden admirar pero también desean superar. Esta es la fórmula ideal para una historia de rivales, es como tener a Batman y el Joker, es decir, dos caras de la misma moneda.
Ellos durante la serie están en un juego del gato y el ratón, constantemente detrás de la pista del otro intentando adelantarse a sus intenciones, lo cual para un thriller es perfecto porque brinda esa emoción por saber quién superará a quién y cómo lo logrará.
Por otro lado están las enigmáticas criaturas de los Shinigami o Dios de la muerte, que están inspirados en la mitología nipona con una fidelidad considerable. Ryuk deja caer su Death Note por simple aburrimiento, para probar qué sucedería y con suerte encontrar entretenimiento. Por supuesto logró su cometido. Este personaje me encanta puesto que es un dios en toda la regla, un ser inamovible y aparentemente sin sentimientos que trata a los humanos como una raza inferior que simplemente resulta interesante de ver, como quien observa el comportamiento de un insecto.
A lo largo de la serie se ve como éste no se demuestra afectado ni en lo más mínimo por las calamidades que ocurren, ni siquiera por el final de todo. Esto hace que sea un personaje macabro y misterio con quien se puede empatizar porque sinceramente su humor siniestro es agradable, pero que infunde desconfianza también. Es una representación muy interesante de lo sobrenatural puesto que no se enfoca desde el terror.
Este anime plantea varios dilemas morales, siendo el principal la justificación del asesinato. Quienes ya lo han visto sabrán que la cuestión se presenta cuando Light decide asesinar a criminales para «hacer del mundo un lugar mejor», lo cual si bien es una serie de acciones que buscan un supuesto bienestar para la colectividad, lo cierto es que el método es cuestionable. Allí es cuando entra el personaje de L, para hacer que Light se cuestione si lo que hace es realmente correcto.
Ambos tienen varios momentos donde discuten esta cuestión con otros personajes y entre ellos mismos, pero por supuesto la reflexión queda también para el espectador. Considerando que Light es capaz de jugar con la vida de su padre, manipular a Misa aprovechándose de la admiración que ella siente por él y poner en riesgo la vida de otros para lograr su cometido, ¿piensas que Light estaba en lo correcto?...
Yo sinceramente les concedo algo de razón a ambos, puesto que Light me parece radical, pero es cierto que en muchas ocasiones las acciones radicales son la última opción necesaria para generar un cambio real. Aunque L plantea un punto válido que es que considerar que alguien solo puede cambiar el mundo imponiendo su decisión es un delirio de grandeza absurdo, aparte de que ningún ser humano es moralmente superior como para decidir qué hacer con la vida de alguien más. En ese caso, Light no sería muy distinto a los criminales que tanto odiaba...
