Harry Potter written by a Japanese? Yes, that's Mashle in a nutshell. You've probably seen or heard about this anime by now, it has gotten pretty viral, and the truth is that it's great. In this post I will give you my opinion in which I could not avoid giving spoilers (sorry), but I already tell you (and I repeat), it is a spectacular anime
Synopsis
Mash Burnedead is a young man who is born in a world full of magic, where all people develop incredible abilities, particular to each magician. You can tell how much magic each person has if you look at their birthmarks. One mark is the minimum, but if you have two or more we are talking about higher levels. If you're wondering how many marks Mash has, the truth is that he doesn't have any since in a world ruled by magic, Mash doesn't have any of that. It's a rare case and unfortunately if the authorities discover him, they would get rid of him. He goes against the norm.
His grandfather decides to hide him on the outskirts of town, completely isolating him from the world and physically training him so that he can defend himself at least in that way. However, one day everything would change and Mash would enter the world of magic, where he will be haunted by his condition...
Magic, muscle and comedy
Mashle is a fairly recent shōnen (2020) with its anime adaptation that is currently airing its second season. References to other stories are in practically all of this anime, but it is not a simple copy and paste, on the contrary, it gives it its own particular touch by making everything a kind of absurd parody. The main thing here is the comedy and how the situations of tension or danger contrast with the absurd nature of the characters, especially Mash. Everything is handled with a fairly rapid development, but since it is a very simple plot, speed is a good factor, because it does not leave you waiting and keeps you entertained.
There is also action in each episode, so much that none of it feels like filler, and everything is so interesting that you don't even notice that time has passed. You get the feeling that it lasted less time but in reality it is the usual twenty-something minutes. But of course, it is a short anime, with only 12 episodes per season (or at least so far).
In general there is a very complete character development, sure it is not deep due to the shortness, but it is enough to understand their actions and fully understand the nature of each one. The most obvious parodies are those based on Harry Potter, but there are plenty of nods to other stories. Of course, the one who steals the attention is the main character, who for me is a parody of the parody, that is, he is based on Saitama from One Punch Man.
Mash is completely expressionless, a constant poker face and we'll rarely see a change from his constant neutrality and usually only when he is upset. The rest of the time it seems like he doesn't have a thought in his head😅. This makes the contrast between him and the rest of the characters who are expressive a very funny thing to watch, and it is even more comical when he manages to get out of problems in the most absurd ways. His "powers" are impressive because of the quantity, but not because they are magical.
It's nice to see a story that is truly funny and absurd. There are no big secrets, no puzzles to solve (or at least not ones that are too deep), it is simply a story of action, fun and a lot of brute force. But obviously, with the characteristic style of this type of anime. Mash is the hero, yes, but not because he really wants to be one but because he is left with no choice, and he is so noble that he decides to save as many people as he considers worthy. Although not everything is kindness, when he must defend something he does it fiercely, he does not spare his blows.
In reality, the attention that this story has been getting lately is totally deserved since it is perfectly made to be entertaining and fun to watch. I think each episode will make you laugh a couple of times at the absurdity of it all, and will definitely leave you wanting to see more. The episodes are airing every Saturday so you can rush to see what is published so far before the second season ends. I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do because even the opening is great.
To wrap it up for today, I will leave you the opening that made it viral, which is from the second season. You get it more after you meet the characters, but it cannot be denied that it demonstrates the essence of the anime: absurdly funny.

¿Harry Potter escrito por un japonés? Sí, eso es Mashle en pocas palabras. Probablemente hayas visto o escuchado hablar de este anime y la verdad es que es genial. En este post les daré mi opinión en la cual no he podido evitar dar spoilers (lo siento), pero ya les digo (y repito), es un anime espectacular
Sinopsis
Mash Burnedead es joven que nace en un mundo lleno de magia, donde todas las personas desarrollan habilidades increíbles, particulares de cada mago. Puedes saber qué tanta magia posee cada quien si te fijas en sus marcas de nacimiento. Una marca es lo mínimo, pero si posees dos o más ya hablamos de niveles superiores. Si te preguntas cuántas marcas tiene Mash, la verdad es que no tiene ninguna puesto que en un mundo gobernado por la magia, Mash no tiene nada de eso. Es un caso raro y lamentablemente si las autoridades le descubren se deshacerían de él. Va en contra de la norma.
Su abuelo decide ocultarlo en las afueras del pueblo, aislándolo totalmente del mundo y entrenándolo físicamente para que pueda defenderse al menos de esa forma. Sin embargo, un día todo cambiaría y Mash entraría en el mundo de la magia, donde será perseguido por su condición...
Magia, músculos y comedia
Mashle es un shōnen bastante reciente (2020) con su adaptación al anime que actualmente está en la emisión de su segunda temporada. Las referencias a otras historias están en prácticamente todo este anime, pero no es un simple copia y pega, al contrario, le da su toque particular al hacer todo una especie de parodia absurda. Lo principal aquí es la comedia y cómo las situaciones de tensión o peligro hacen contraste con la naturaleza absurda de los personajes, en especial Mash. Todo se maneja con un desarrollo bastante rápido, pero al ser una trama bastante sencilla la rapidez es un factor bueno, puesto que no te deja esperando y te mantiene entretenido.
También hay acción en cada episodio, tanta que ninguno llega a sentirse como relleno, además es todo tan interesante que ni siquiera notas que ha pasado el tiempo. Te da la sensación de que duró menos tiempo pero en realidad son los veintitantos minutos usuales. Eso sí, es un anime corto, con sólo 12 capítulos por temporada (o al menos hasta ahora).
En general hay un desarrollo de personajes bastante completo, por supuesto no es profundo debido a lo corto, pero es lo suficiente como para comprender sus acciones y entender completamente la naturaleza de cada uno. Las parodias más evidentes son las basadas en Harry Potter, pero hay un montón de guiños a otras historias. Por supuesto, quien se roba la atención es el protagonista, el que para mí es una parodia de la parodia, es decir, está basado en Saitama de One Punch Man.
Mash es completamente inexpresivo, rara vez se ve un cambio de su constante neutralidad y por lo general sólo es cuando está molesto. El resto del tiempo parece que no tuviera ni un pensamiento en su cabeza😅. Esto hace que el contraste entre él y el resto de personajes que sí son expresivos sea gracioso, y resulta más cómico cuando consigue zafarse de los problemas de las maneras más absurdas. Sus "poderes" son impresionantes por la cantidad, pero no porque sean mágicos.
Resulta agradable ver una historia que sea verdaderamente graciosa y absurda. No hay grandes secretos, no hay enigmas que resolver (o al menos no unos demasiado profundos), es simplemente una historia de acción, diversión y mucha fuerza bruta. Por supuesto, con el estilo característico de este tipo de anime. Mash es el héroe, sí, pero no porque realmente desee hacerlo sino porque no le dejan opción, y es tan noble que decide salvar a cuantas personas él considere que se lo merezcan. Aunque no todo es bondad, cuando debe defender algo lo hace con fiereza, no escatima en golpes.
En realidad la atención que esta historia ha recibido últimamente es totalmente merecida puesto que está perfectamente hecha para ser entretenida y divertida de ver. Creo que cada capítulo te arrancará un par de carcajadas por lo absurdo de todo, y definitivamente te dejará con ganas de ver más. Los capítulos están saliendo en emisión cada sábado así que puedes correr a ver lo que está publicado hasta ahora antes de que termine la segunda temporada. Estoy segura de que te encantará tanto como a mí, si es que hasta el opening es genial.
Para terminar por hoy, te dejaré el opening que lo hizo viral, que es de la segunda temporada. Se entiende más luego de que conoces a los personajes, pero no se puede negar que demuestra la esencia del anime: absurdamente gracioso.
