Cinetv Contest: Favorite Beach Movie - Baywatch (2017)

Review by @marriot5464 · 1222d · of Baywatch

Wikipedia

The 2017 American action comedy film "Baywatch" which I believe is based on a same-named television show of the same name, is a film that follows a group of lifeguards at a California beach as they investigate a drug trafficking network that tries to jeopardize the security of their once peaceful beach. The cast was led by the renowned and macho Dwayne Johnson as Mitch Buchannon.

About the cast . Dwayne Johnson plays the lead role as Mich Buchannon while Zac Efron plays the one time Olympic winner swimmer Matt Brody who fell off the spot and resorts to being a lifeguard. And together they both stand out in terms of performances. Johnson with his trademark charm and charisma, and Efron makes the brash but inexperienced newcomer into a funny character. The rest of the cast is strong as well, with Kelly Rohrbach and blue eyed Alexandra Daddario, with each adding their unique sense of comedy style to the movie and of course some seductive appeal to their individual parts.

My take in the movie… The movie is just a typical summer extravaganza blockbuster. That's how I'd like to term it. Because it's complete with extravagant action scenes, some obscene humor, and an all-star ensemble. To be honest it's not a film that can garner much acting or writing accolades, but yet it was a delightful version of the series and a great diversion suitable for a leisurely day.

When seeing the movie the setting is what instantly catches the eye. Set on a beautiful California beach with the sparkling water, plush sand, beautiful bikini clad people and unending sunshine. The beach served as a prominent location in the film, serving as both the lifeguards' headquarters and the general setting for several other important sequences and scenes. Just the perfect beach setting. Every scene in the movie can leave viewers daydreaming their life at the beach soaking up in the sun. Although not every beach employee has flawless hair and killing abs, as the movie made us believe, not every beach is as beautiful and well-kept as the one in "Baywatch". I mean reality and movies aren't always the same, but they did well with the portrayal of the fantasy beach life we all might have craved for.

One other thing about the movie is that, "Baywatch" might not be the most original or most thought-provoking movie that you're looking for or that was ever released, but it is one romp that captures some of the deep essence of summer on the beach. To me the movie is not some serious kinda action or the type that gets adrenaline running. Although I applaud the inclusion of a drug trafficking plot into the storyline. l believe It gave its normal humorous storyline a bit of dimension and added complexity to the drama. But generally, the movie doesn't take itself too seriously, It doesn't pretend to be or follow any movie or pattern other than what it is a fun, ridiculous, and amusing action comedy. Just a lighthearted and enjoyable film that perfectly portrays the essence of the beach and the summertime

Best scene in the movie.. One scene that always stands out and keeps replaying in my mind whenever I remember the movie is when the lifeguards are all sprinting down the beach in slow motion, but instead of looking attractive and fashionable, they stumble and fall over one another. Also the part where one of the life guards had his nuts stuck in a chair, though painful but it got me reeling with laughter. Truly It's a funny parody of the iconic action from the original show and demonstrates how lighthearted the film is.

So if you're looking for some fun and engaging adventure that embraces the beach life and the hot summer body. Something that may not be the most sophisticated or nuanced film ever created. If you love something that understands what it is and doesn't attempt to copy anything else, and at the same time makes it so appealing. If you're looking for a fun, hilarious, action-packed movie, then "Baywatch" is a must-see.
