Well, about a week ago I finished watching this movie, and I can't deny that I had mixed feelings about it at first. I mean, I read a little about it somewhere, and I got interested. I wasn't interested because it was said to be interesting; I got interested because of something else, which I later saw for myself.

Amd it is because, this is actually the first Korean movie I will be seeing that has a mixture of both olden days and modern day. Nah, it's not the usual one you know; it was acted in a modern-day setting with all. Let me cite an example: imagine your country today is being run by a king and royal family. There's a king, queen, grand prince, crown prince, queen mother, and all. That's it, in a modern-day world. They also have a prime minister; even still, he answers to the king.
That idea itself was what caught my attention. You know, a country, I mean, a developed country where the royal family still exists and is in control. Now, it gets more interesting when a particular businesswoman comes in, a very, very rich one at that; the only thing she lacks is social status, and that's because she was born illegitimately. I actually love this lady in particular; you know she's very bold and ambitious. Along the line, she got to meet with the prince who's serving as the regent to the crown since the king is still very young. Since all she wants now is a social status, she decided to go for the prince, and after some back and forth, they entered into a marriage.

I enjoyed this film so much, and honestly I'm lost for words. You know, the marriage happens to be a contract one, just 3 years, and they are done. But what began as an arranged/contract marriage slowly began to turn into something real. They began to fall for each other, and even though there were times things went awry, like when they decided to divorce, when Hui-ju (the lady) got poisoned on their wedding day, when their contract marriage leaked, and so much more, they still find their way back to themselves at the end of the day. We can say they are basically using each other at the beginning, but then this went the other way round, and they couldn't help it.
The prince (I-an) seemed to me to be somehow aloof at first, like being quiet or tossed around and all; it was later I got to know that there's actually more to everything. I never knew he knew so much; he even knew he was supposed to be the next king instead of his young nephew, who was made the king. I mean, there are a lot of twists in this movie. Not only that, but I felt bad for the young king too, even though his uncle, who was the prince (I-an), loved him and stood by him. But then, he didn't get to enjoy his childhood, a child of less than 10 years of age being burdened with the affair of a whole nation.

This movie is one I can and will recommend to anyone looking to watch how, in a modern world, royalty was still in power, also how the fight between politics and power can go. I'm not saying the movie is a 100/100, not at all; there are some parts that dragged, some were too rushed, and all of that. Even still, it gave me what I wanted, and it satisfied my curiosity. I love the suspense in it too as well.
And like I said earlier, I will very well recommend this movie to anyone, especially if you enjoy politics mixed with romance, family drama, and some chaos.
