The year begins and after a couple of days I already catch up with some of the films that were on my list for a long time, and although Baby Driver, the 2017 film directed by Edgar Wright, is not the first one I saw, it is maybe the best job I've seen so far this year lol, and that's why I decided to talk about it.

Year: 2017 Category: Action. Director: Edgar Wright. Cast: Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Eiza González, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, CJ Jones.

Plot
A young orphan with a great ability to drive is forced to drive to flee the police in different criminal blows because he owes a debt to the one who organizes the assaults, but when he falls in love with a young girl and no longer wants to continue driving the things will go out of control.

Opinion
Baby, a young orphan who lives with Joseph, a deaf old man in a wheelchair, works as a driver for Doc, a criminal mind that is responsible for organizing different crimes, including stealing banks. On each occasion Doc selects a different group of criminals, however, due to an old debt that Baby has with him, he is obliged to participate as a driver in each of the operations. When Baby finally ends his debt with Doc decides to retire and start a relationship with Debora, a young waitress, however, soon Doc requires Baby's services again and extorts him to do another job, this time with Darling and Buddy, a kind of Bonnie and Clyde, and with Bats, an extremely violent criminal, whom Baby knows of his last two jobs.
Starting from the above I must say that the film has a fairly simple plot, the genius of the film is not in the script, in fact, that is probably its weak point, but that's what I'll talk about at the end, for now, I must highlight the great direction, the synchronization between music and events is excellent, the audiovisual aesthetic is simply wonderful, I already knew the director from films like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and The World's End, which are all comedies, for that reason I must say that I did not expect a work of this style, which is very different from the kind of movie I was used to seeing of him.
It is a very dynamic and entertaining film that does not slow down at any time, it keeps everything simple, the protagonist who is a good guy but who is forced by circumstances to participate in criminal actions, the girl whose only purpose is conceived together with the development of the main character, the relative who wants the best for the protagonist but who still can not do anything to prevent him from continuing in the crime world, and of course, the villains, which in this case are the criminals with whom he works.
As I said the audivisual work is very good, with a soundtrack that goes from Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Bob & Earl, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, Queen, T. Rex, Beck, Carla Thomas and many others. The visual aesthetics is excellent, the synchronization also, including some sequence shot, in addition to the persecutions that, although unreal, with a very good choreaography, and a staging very well worked.
The performances are very good and although there is none that is really superior to the others, everyone does it very well, starting with the protagonist, Ansel Elgort, whom I see for the first time. Lily James, Eiza González, CJ Jones, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx do a relatively good job, especially Foxx. Kevin Spacey acts in automatic, in a role very similar to the one made in the film 21.
The film is good and entertaining, but as I said, if I should mention any flaw it must be in the simplicity of the script in the development of the story, but especially of the characters, it is not clear why the characters are dedicated to doing the things they do, it just does not make sense, except for the main character, which shows us with the help of flashbacks some of his motivations that justify his personality, for the rest, the actions, motivations and incentives of the other characters are not clear, in fact, seem not to exist, it is as if they did things only because the plot wants it, which makes them one-dimensional characters with very little or null depth.
