Larry David and the gang are back! The full ninth season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” has aired on HBO.
I’m a huge fan of the series, I rank it in my top 5 comedy series of all time.
So what do I think of this season nine? … Well… I must say I’m a tiny bit disappointed.
One of the reasons is, I had big expectations. Ever since season 5, the show has been on and of… and would only come back when Larry David had an ideia he wanted to explore. And all the other seasons where great. They managed to keep doing the same but not repeating themselves and finding new arcs that hadn’t previously been explored.
And no break had been so big as from season with to season nine, that lead me to think one of the best seasons would appear..
They changed a bit the dynamics of visual language… they got a drone shot, they got some steady cam shot’s … That’s not an issue but it didn’t add anything… in my opinion.
It’s still a good series and worth watching, specially some later episodes. Ep. 9 is probably my favourite. And they did manage to make different from the other series and have situations that had not taken place in previous episodes.
“Curb Your Enthusiasm” was one of the series where I would actually laugh out loud a bunch of times. In this season … that happened maybe once or twice. I saw all the previous seasons several times… and I never got tired of it. (I have all the Dvd’s). Season 9, I’m in no hurry to watch it again…
Let’s say, if I would give the previous seasons a 10/10 this one I would give a 9… or 8.5/10.
In Short:
It’s still a good series and I didn’t felt like I was wasting my time. If you’re a fan see it. My advice would be to have lower expectations… don’t expect the best Curb ever.
