I am not sure how I feel about Netflix currently as it has come under some heavy hits having lost a significant amount of viewership over the past few months. Naturally was going to happen as it was amongst the first to hit our T.V streaming. Now with Amazon, Disney and much much more on offer slowly but surely Netflix is losing its rights to certain films that it once had.
But it is not all bad news for the streaming service as being first in line means they had significant growth and revenue given they had low competition for quite a few years.
The streaming service has dived right into the development of their own films which have been quite good. Series wise they haven't done to bad either.
One of their series that they picked up from Fox was Lucifer and I am grateful they did as like many this was a really good show to follow along. It also loosely followed a character from Sandman which is what we will be focusing on today.
There are a few issues a head and if you haven't watched the netflix adaption there are spoilers a head.
First of all, what can we say about The Sandman series? It is quite the interesting series because it's very different to what we are used to but is amongst a new genre of a central universe that expands. This is quite common with many of the Marvel films and Star Wars films where if you have been following Mandalorian, Bobba Fett, Marvel Series none of these start and end as what say Stranger Things does.
The continue and build on and have entire spin off lead seasons and I think this is what Sandman is doing.

Throughout Season 1 we were introduced to a hell of a lot of characters and stories in fact Netflix could have rolled one season into just Sandman locating his items but that was handled pretty quickly. In doing so they introduced us to the Corinthian but also had a heck of a lot going on.
The only story arcs that ended was Morpheus locating his items and reclaiming his escaped nightmares but many more arcs were opened.
The series itself I felt at times was unclimactic but I feel like this was done in a way to have has feel the same way Morpheus does a very calm, rational and highly depressed character whose sole emotion is depression and dealing with reality. Throughout the series his only expression shown was a hollowed state of depression while all the other characters around him were highly emotional and at times unstable.
This also ties into the season final, it didn't really feel like a "grand final" there were no real cliff-hangers or anything. The job was done and he was back home and back to work. Other characters gave you the indication that there was more to come, but not Morpheus.
Let's talk Lucifer

Lucifer Morningstar isn't being played by Tom Ellis who I like many thought played the role beautifully in stead the role has been recast and we have Gwendoline Christie who does a more darker sinister spin on Lucifer. I have to admit I was totally against this change because we already had such a great Lucifer but there was an issue.
Lucifer from the stand alone Netflix series does not follow the comic and has only drawn inspiration from and in the comics Lucifer fought more well, matched opponents and did more celestial things. Where as Fox more went down the path of crime solving supernatural things. Still a great rendition though.
But what stands to be answered is will it count as canon?
The ending of Sandman literally brings us up to date as Lucifer says to Mazikeen that Lucifer will do something that will make God "Livid" and we can guess this is him bailing on Hell to go open Lux.
Now, you might be thinking different actors? yeah but it doesn't really matter because we're talking about celestial shape shifting beings and gender doesn't really exist for any of them as we saw the Corinthian with similar tastes as Lucifer.
It is mind blowing stuff at the moment I have to admit so the continuation of Lucifer could still be the one we have come to know and love. Although the new director may want to recreate the entire series by giving Lucifer a more closer to the cannon life but we will have to wait and see. Given that we saw a new hell leaders emerge which we didn't previously see other than when demons tried to take over because Lucifer wasn't in hell we could perhaps see it be remade.

Death Recast?
Maybe this is just DC commic fodder but has Azrael been recast as Death? given that Death was a character in the comic books are their two deaths? there is a brief statement where Death says she doesn't do it alone so there maybe more than one Death's and it makes sense as her role would probably be one of the busiest there are.
But again, there is a good Arc to explore with Death and in the comics she did have her own stories to tell.
Sandman was and is an absolute masterpiece in it's depiction and its emotional journey while I am disappointed with the ending it ended just how it was supposed to because Dream is not an emotional character but one of darkness and depression so it left you feeling kind of depressed but still had quite the conclusions.
This is a series to follow and I look forward to it's future.
Have you seen it yet? what were your thoughts?
