Esta película me pareció como un buen vino, pues se va saboreando poco a poco, mientras que su trama pausada, pero emocionante y llena de realidad, ya que pese a que es un drama de espías, los eventos son poco fantasiosos, te va embriagando poco a poco, hasta que llega a su final, y aunque no soy muy fanático de las historias de amor empedernido, alcanza un momento muy satisfactorio por sus constantes giros en la trama y revelación final. No obstante, como todo vino, a las horas de tomarlo, te puede llegar a producir una pequeña reseca al analizar lo sucedido, pudiendo encontrar más de un falló en la historia que acabamos de disfrutar.
This movie seemed like a good wine to me, because you savor it little by little, while its slow plot, but exciting and full of reality, since despite being a spy drama, the events are not very fanciful, it makes you drunk little by little, until it reaches its end, and although I'm not a big fan of hopeless love stories, it reaches a very satisfying moment due to its constant plot twists and final revelation. However, as everything came, within hours of taking it, it can produce a little dryness when analyzing what happened, being able to find more than one failure in the story that we have just enjoyed.
La trama inicia con una ataque terrorista en un aeropuerto, el cual ha llegado a su momento culminante con la muerte de todos los rehenes y terroristas. 8 años después, la CIA reabre el caso al capturar al principal autor intelectual de los sucesos, teniendo fuertes creencias de que hubo un topo en la operación, por lo que ahora el oficial Henry Pelham (Chris Pine) debe indagar en lo sucedido en ese evento, necesitando volver a ver a Celia Harrison (Thandie Newton), una de las sospechosas que participó en esa operación, y su ex amante.

Ambos quedan en un restaurant en un pueblo tranquilo de California, que termina representando muy bien la vida actual de Celia, pues luego de ese terrible suceso, nunca pudo volver a ser la misma y terminó buscando una vida tranquila y serena. En ese lugar se desarrolla gran parte de la trama de la película, ya que empiezan con una especie de investigación retrospectiva, construyendo poco a poco la historia a base de recuerdos increíblemente bien detallados que van soltando a medida que la cena avanza, y que el vino empieza a hacer su efecto.

Cada vez la narrativa se va tornando más interesante, ya que pese a que no hay nada de acción pura y dura, como otras películas de espías, aquí juegan más con la intriga, las relaciones personales y los constantes giros de trama, lo que te mantiene con los ojos bien abiertos, pensando y buscando cada pequeño detalle o inconsistencia para concluir antes del final de la cena quien fue el traidor, o incluso si llego en realidad a ver un soplón en la operación.

Más allá de los sucesos, lo más relevante de todo viene siendo la relación Pelham/Harrison, ya que su cena se siente como una partida de ajedrez, donde cada uno va soltando detalles con sumo cuidado, estudiando detenidamente las palabras de su interlocutor, siendo muy difícil poder intuir quien está escondiendo más. La parte romántica tampoco se puede dejar a un lado, ya que en los momentos de mayor intensidad emocional, está sale a opacar todo lo anterior, jugando mucho con una ambientación que comienza cálida recién se encuentran, a oscura y fría a medida que la conversación se torna inquietante.

Pero cuando ya los personajes se han acabado un par de botellas de vino, viene el desenlace final de la historia, y mi mayor crítica hacia ella, ya que empiezan a aflorar todas las inconsistencias de la trama, con la conclusión tal vez más esperada, pero con un remate muy apresurado y poco preparado, pues si el oficial Henry Pelham era tan bueno como nos comentan en la cinta, me parece absurdo que esté se hubiera lanzado a las fauces del lobo sin siquiera protestar o buscar un plan b, además de que nunca me cuadró la parte del asesino contratado.
But when the characters have already finished a couple of bottles of wine, comes the final outcome of the story, and my biggest criticism of it, since all the inconsistencies in the plot begin to surface, with perhaps the most expected conclusion, but with a very hasty and unprepared shot, because if officer Henry Pelham was as good as they tell us on the tape, it seems absurd to me that he would have thrown himself into the jaws of the wolf without even protesting or looking for a plan b, in addition to that, the part of the hired killer never made sense to me.
En conclusión, es una buena película pero tiene algunos problemas para engancharte desde el inicio, pero una vez las piezas empiecen a ponerse en su lugar, nuestra atención se centrará entre el relato de los personajes interpretados por Pine y Newton, que aunque no lo dije antes, lograron una actuación muy correcta, dejándome un poco más de dudas la segunda. El mayor problema que le veo a este filme es su cierre, pero aún así es altamente recomendada por las demás cosas positivas e interesantes que tiene.
