Always what we see or hear is not hundred percent true. Maybe we could see some of it from a distance and think of a conclusion whereas the story could be something else. Also, the decisions based on this kinda blurry situation often lead us to incurable losses too. Today's movie is about this particular message, it was portrayed so beautifully that I must admit it was a perfect one that was worth my time and expectations.
Atonement is a romantic/drama genre film that was directed by Joe Wright and based on a novel by Ian McEwan.
The story begins with a 13 years old girl whose name was Briony, one of the key characters and the root of everything. She belongs to a very rich family and she has a sister named Cecilia and a brother Leon. And Robbie, their housekeeper's son, but soon it would look like he has feelings for Cecilia and the same for Robbie from Cecilia's end.
Two incidents from Robbie and Cecilia got noticed by Briony that she misunderstood, also it was clear that she had some feelings for Robbie too. Kinda complex triangle it seems. But trust me, I was perplexed on seeing Briony accuse Robbie without being sure of a crime and sending him to prison. She was a thirteen years old child, right? Was that a mistake? Spoiler? Ah no, wait a minute.
So an unfinished story, a romantic one, between Cecilia and Robbie. Robbie on war, world war II, will they get to be together again? Holy shit! These punch lines seem so weird, hehe. But yeah, I had to use them as these were the prime questions of the whole movie and the answers was gonna twist our minds too.
I loved the way scenes were organized, a few came first, a few were taken back, some scenes satisfied us and then a few broke us apart. Some scenes gave me relief and on the other hand, some took it away, felt like a consolation. A few lies were well digested and then the truths changed them in the opposite direction. As the name says Atonement is really about the Atonement of a mistake that made an effect on a few lives.
It was well organized with the different scene pieces, loved to see the view of Dunkirk as well as the war effect made me sad too. Trust me, those scenes with the wounded were beyond imaginable twice, that scenes of a deathbed soldier and Briony is also an emotional one that left us speechless.
If I recap the whole story in my mind then I must take the message seriously about how a little thing can bring such a huge change that can't be undone, by the time one does realize about the damage it becomes incurable. That's the whole movie about, anyone would love it for sure, also the ending scene, I wasn't really ready to take in that twist, I didn't expect anything like that coming. Would love to rate it 8 out of 10. Go for it, it's worth watching.
