Me Before You (2016) Movie Review

Review by @mmam 🏆#112 🎵53 🎬40 📺12 · 1h · of Me Before You

"Me Before You" tarring Louisa “Lou” Clark (Emilia Clarke) and Will Traynor (sam Claflin) told the story of two people who seemed completely different but unexpectedly became very important to each other.

Louisa Clark lived a simple life in a small English town. She was cheerful, talkative and full of strange fashion choices, but her family depended heavily on her income. When she lost her job at a café, she desperately needed another one.
That was how she ended up working as a caregiver for Will Traynor.

Will, had once lived a very active and adventurous life. He had travelled, worked successfully and enjoyed doing things that gave him excitement. But everything changed after a tragic accident left him paralysed from the neck down.

By the time Lou met him, Will had become bitter and withdrawn. He was no longer the confident man he had once been. He treated Lou coldly and made it clear that he did not want her sympathy.

Lou, however, refused to give up.
At first, their relationship was difficult. Lou struggled to understand Will's attitude, while Will constantly pushed her away. But as they spent more time together, the walls between them slowly began to disappear.

Lou discovered the man behind Will's anger and sadness. Will, in turn, began bringing out a side of Lou that she had never really explored.
Their relationship gradually became something deeper than friendship.

Lou started taking Will out of the house and introducing him to experiences he had almost forgotten how to enjoy. They went to concerts, travelled together and shared moments that made Will laugh again.

For Lou, Will became more than just the man she cared for.
She fell in love with him.
And that was where the movie became painful.
Lou eventually discovered that Will had already made a decision about his future. Despite the love and happiness he had found with her, he did not want to continue living with his condition.

Lou desperately tried to change his mind.
She believed that if she could show him enough beautiful moments, he would choose to stay. She wanted him to understand that his life could still have meaning.
But Will's decision was not something love alone could change.

The final part of the movie was heartbreaking because Lou finally understood that loving someone did not always mean being able to save them from a decision they had already made.

Their goodbye was devastating.
Will left Lou with memories, encouragement and enough courage to start living a bigger life than the one she had known before meeting him. His final letter pushed her to stop being afraid of the world and to become the woman he believed she could be.

Emilia Clarke gave Lou a warm and emotional performance, while Sam Claflin made Will's character feel both difficult and deeply vulnerable. Their chemistry was one of the strongest parts of the movie.

Me Before You was not simply a love story. It was about two people who entered each other's lives at completely different points and changed each other in ways neither expected.
And honestly, the ending hurt.

I wanted Lou and Will to get their happy ending. I wanted love to be enough. But the movie chose a much more painful reality.

Overall, Me Before You was emotional, romantic and heartbreaking. It was the kind of movie that could make you smile in one scene and leave you reaching for a tissue in the next.

If you enjoy romance movies that are not afraid to break your heart, this one is worth watching.
