The Protégé o como se tradujo en Latinoamérica "La Protegida" es una película estadunidense dirigida por Martin Campbell y protagonizada por Maggie Q, Samuel L. Jackson y Michael Keaton. Se estreno en agosto de 2021.
Rescatada de pequeña por un asesino profesional, Anna pasa sus días siendo una asesina a sueldo junto con este, pero después reanimar un viejo caso del pasado, su amigo muere ahora ella buscara venganza contra las personas detrás del ataque. Esta es la premisa que nos ofrece la película.
Contexto
Vietnam. Vemos a un sujeto entrar a un almacén de unos mafiosos, alli solo encuentra los cavares de sus antiguos ocupantes, al adentrarse en el lugar descubre a una niña asustada, escondida con una pistola, ella fue la que causo la masacre, así que este hombre decide ayudarla.
Pasan 30 años y conocemos a Anna, la niña del inicio, ahora es una asesina entrenada quien fue criada por Moody, ambos se dedican a matar personas malas por dinero, son muy buenos en eso y tienen una vida cómoda. Sin embargo, a Moody ya no le queda mucho tiempo de vida, así que quiere dejar las cosas en paz y resarcir un poco del mal que ha hecho, buscando al hijo de Edward Hayes, un blanco que elimino en el pasado. Una noche, cuando Anna regresa del trabajo, encuentra el cuerpo sin vida de su mentor.

Sin embargo Moody la salva. Su mentor no murió, solo fingió su muerte para pasar desapercibido, ahora el y Anna irán con todo contra Edward Hayes y sus hombres.
Aprovechan la cena de caridad que organiza Hayes para infiltrarse en el lugar, cuando el evento esta en pleno apogeo Anna no duda en atacar a Edward pero Rembrandt interviene a tiempo, lo que lleva a una persecución por el recinto, ella esta herida y cada vez le cuesta mas escapar. Mientras eso sucede, Hayes fue llevado a un bunker secreto donde lo espera Moody, alli este revela cuales sus intenciones con él, Rembrandt esta a punto de dispararle a Anna cuando una explosión lo interrumpe. La realidad es que Moody iba a inmolarse para arrastra a Hayes a la muerte. La explosión permite que Anna huya, dejando a Rembrandt desconcertado hasta que le llega un mensaje de ella donde le manda una dirección de encuentro, es la fabrica abandonada donde Anna y Moody se conocieron hace 30 años, esta recuerda un poco de su pasado, llega Rembrandt y trata de convencerla de que hay una manera para que ambos vivan y dejar las cosas así, ella no esta segura de eso luego se escucha un disparo, no se sabe quien sobrevivió hasta que vemos a Anna salir por la puerta.
Análisis y Opinión
Esta es un película de acción con todas las letras, tiene todos los tópicos del genero, desde las peleas físicamente imposibles hasta los disparos sin control, y el romance con el enemigo, con una historia que ya hemos visto y que se adapta muy bien al tema, el pasado que toca la puerta del protagonista. Sin embargo, esta bien lograda y cumple con lo que promete, casi dos horas de entretenimiento puro. Tenemos un casting muy respetado y ya consagrado como Samuel L Jackson o Michael Keaton, actores ampliamente conocidos y amados.
La verdad la película me gusto, es acción clásica de esa que casi ya no sale, sin dar tantas vueltas al tema y que en teoría es sencilla pero entretenida, en este caso adaptada a la actualidad y estilizada. Ciertamente si hubiera salido décadas antes seguro hubiera sido un éxito de Arnold Schwarzenegger o de Sylvester Stallone exponentes claros del genero. Sin duda la recomiendo, en especial si eres amante de este tópico o si quieres pasar una tarde entretenida después del estrés de la vida diaria.

This is a full-fledged action movie, it has all the clichés of the genre, from the physically impossible fights to the out-of-control shootouts, and the romance with the enemy, with a story we've already seen that fits the theme very well, the past knocking on the protagonist's door. However, it is well accomplished and delivers what it promises, almost two hours of pure entertainment. We have a very respected and already consecrated casting such as Samuel L Jackson or Michael Keaton, widely known and loved actors.
The truth is that I liked the movie, it's classic action of the kind that almost never comes out anymore, without giving so many twists to the subject and that in theory is simple but entertaining, in this case adapted to the present and stylized. Certainly if it had been released decades earlier it would have been a hit for Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone, clear exponents of the genre. I certainly recommend it, especially if you are a lover of this topic or if you want to spend an entertaining evening after the stress of everyday life.
