Es la secuela directa de Matrix: Revolutions, siendo la cuarta entrega de la franquicia, fue coescrita, producida y dirigida por Lana Wachowski, es una película de ciencia ficción y acción. Tiene a Keanu Reeves y Carrie-Anne Moss repitiendo sus papeles nuevamente, con la participación de nuevas caras en la saga como Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris Jessica Henwick y Jonathan Groff. Su estreno oficial fue en Toronto, Canadá en diciembre de 2021.
Contexto
Han pasado 60 años desde los eventos de Matrix: Revolutions. Thomas A. Anderson es un exitoso desarrollador de videojuegos, creador de Matrix, una saga de juegos basados en lo él piensa que son alucinaciones y sueños pero realmente son recuerdos de su vida como Neo. Un día conoce a Tiffany una madre casada y feliz, quien es Trinity sin sus recuerdos, desde alli todo comienza a desmoronarse para Thomas hasta que aparece una nueva versión de Morfeo, quien lo trae nuevamente a la realidad, con la mítica pastilla roja. Ahora Neo tendrá enfrentar los cambios del mundo humano y la nueva amenaza contra los sobrevivientes.
Análisis y Opinión
Ciertamente tenia un debate interno entre verme o no esta película, no soy la fan mas aferrada a la trilogía. Sin embargo, me gusto las originales y el final que le dieron fue satisfactorio, así que no entendía que podría aportarle este filme a la historia general. Después de todo, es una trama ya concluida desde hace 19 años. Aunque no me molesto, en una escala del uno al diez le daría un seis y medio, pero entiendo la desilusión de los fans y el mal recibimiento que tuvo.
Esta película peca en algo fundamental y que para muchos es de mal gusto, y es que plantea una negativa a los sucesos anteriores, de que todo lo que paso es una alucinación, claro al avanzar la historia te muestran que es solo una manipulación de las maquinas para mantenerlo alli. Si embargo, el mal ya esta hecho, la idea esta plantada y ahora perfectamente podemos asumir que todo es una mentira, producto a sus males mentales. Esto es muy curioso si lo pienso, ya que muchos bromeaban o incluso teorizaban locamente que Matrix era una historia de abuso de sustancia ilegales y todo lo sucedido era por ello, con este filme le dan mas fuerzas a estas hipótesis, se vuelven mas convincentes y eso es gracioso.
Creo que la historia hubiera funcionado mejor para una película independiente a Matrix, la premisa es interesante: Un desarrollador de videojuegos sufre desequilibrios mentales y comienza a pensar que su juego es real. Seguiríamos una trama compleja donde siempre queda la pregunta ¿Todo es real o una ilusión? Además los efectos y el presupuesto se prestan para eso.
En el filme podemos notar un cambio de papeles, en casi muchas situaciones, aunque el que mayor destaca es en Neo y Trinity, se ve una correspondencia en el hecho de morir por el otro, obvio el Neo de la trilogía original también sacrificaría todo por su amada, pero en este caso es casi una dependencia, como lo era Trinity en el pasado. Bueno la mayoría de la película se basa en eso, la importancia de su amor para ambos mundos, no solo para ellos. Algo que me crea conflicto es el uso constante de fragmentos de las entregas anteriores, en forma de recuerdos, eso pasa muy seguido cuando las continuaciones se llevan tanto tiempo de diferencia, hay que refrescar la memoria de los espectadores, ya que muchos no se verán nuevamente las pasadas, para el estreno de esta, en mi opinión esto quita tiempo a la trama y puede ser rebuscado en cierta manera.
Una cosa que siempre, en mi opinión, distingue a Matrix es su estilo y vestuario, eso es muy icónico en la franquicia, en esta ocasión no esta mal. Sin embargo, no innovan o son muy sutiles, ya que mucha de la ropa es muy común en esta época, gente normal la usa a diario ( y se ven geniales) esto puede ser por el paso del tiempo, pero al ver las primeras entregas y analizar el estilo, aun así hoy en día sigue siendo poco común y llamativo, parece que no lo tuvieron en cuenta. Los efectos y recursos buenos, creo que nadie se quejaría de eso, aunque me hubiera encantado ver algo mas creativo con eso, aprovechar el adelanto tecnológico para crear algo nuevo que no pudieron hacer hace 20 años.
La casi auto inserción que hicieron fue interesante, las escenas iniciales donde trataban de hacer un Reboot para Matrix, el juego, me parece muy creíble, hasta me imagino a Lana y su equipo debatiendo como hacer eso sin dañar la historia, darle al publico lo que quiere, sin comprometer nada. También se vemos las posibles quejas de un fan de la saga, en una situación.
En un sentido general creo que la película apela mucho a la nostalgia del pasado, y en ocasiones no es muy sutil, algo que cada vez mas se ve en el cine, lo que hace que pierda sentido su existencia. Para mi este filme fue solo para darle un final feliz a Neo y Trinity, y tal vez dinero a la compañía. Dejando todo lo anterior de lado, si la recomiendo, es entretenida y te puedes distraerte con ella, pero no se la colocaría al fan mas aguerrido de la saga.

I certainly had an internal debate whether or not to see this movie, I'm not the biggest fan of the trilogy. However, I liked the originals and the ending they gave it was satisfying, so I didn't understand what this film could possibly add to the overall story. After all, it's a plot that's been concluded for 19 years. While I don't mind, on a scale of one to ten I would give it a six and a half, but I understand the disappointment of the fans and the poor reception it got.
This film fails in something fundamental and that for many is in bad taste, and that is that it poses a denial to the previous events, that everything that happened is a hallucination, of course as the story progresses they show you that it is only a manipulation of the machines to keep him there. However, the evil is already done, the idea is planted and now we can perfectly assume that everything is a lie, product of his mental illnesses. This is very curious if I think about it, since many joked or even theorized madly that the Matrix was a story of illegal substance abuse and everything that happened was because of it, with this film they give more strength to these hypotheses, they become more convincing and that's funny.
I think the story would have worked better for a standalone Matrix movie, the premise is interesting: A video game developer suffers mental imbalances and begins to think that his game is real. We would follow a complex plot where the question always remains: Is it all real or an illusion? Besides, the effects and the budget lend themselves to that.
In the film we can notice a change of roles, in almost many situations, although the one that stands out the most is in Neo and Trinity, we see a correspondence in the fact of dying for the other, obviously the Neo of the original trilogy would also sacrifice everything for his beloved, but in this case it is almost a dependency, as Trinity was in the past. Well most of the movie is based on that, the importance of their love for both worlds, not just for them. Something that creates conflict for me is the constant use of fragments of the previous installments, in the form of flashbacks, that happens very often when the continuations take so much time apart, you have to refresh the memory of the viewers, since many will not be seen again the past ones, for the release of this one, in my opinion this takes time away from the plot and can be stilted in a way.
One thing that always, in my opinion, distinguishes the Matrix is its style and wardrobe, that is very iconic in the franchise, this time it is not bad. However, they don't innovate or are very subtle, since a lot of the clothes are very common in this era, normal people wear them everyday (and they look great) this may be because of the passage of time, but seeing the first installments and analyzing the style, even so today it is still uncommon and striking, it seems they didn't take it into account. The effects and resources good, I think no one would complain about that, although I would have loved to see something more creative with that, take advantage of the technological advancement to create something new that they couldn't do 20 years ago.
The almost self insertion they did was interesting, the initial scenes where they were trying to make a Reboot for Matrix, the game, seems very believable to me, I even imagine Lana and her team debating how to do that without damaging the story, give the audience what they want, without compromising anything.
