Dark Phoenix is a superhero fantasy, science fiction movie based on Marvel Comics X-Men with a 1 hour 54 minutes run time from the . It was released in Nigeria on the 5th of June 2019. As usual, I saw it at Filmhouse Cinema on Monday and although it wasn't exactly what I expected, it was still a pretty good movie. It had some rather incredible cinematographic moments especially whenever the Phoenix lost the ability to control the strange power within her.

  • James McAvoy is Charles Xavier / Professor X, the founder of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. He is a mutant who has the ability to get into people's heads and read or control their thoughts.
  • Michael Fassbender is Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto. He is a mutant who can control metal and magnetic fields. He was once Professor X's best friend.
  • Jennifer Lawrence is Raven Darkhölme / Mystique. She is a shape shifter and Professor X's adopted sister.
  • Nicholas Hoult is Hank McCoy / Beast. He is a mutant with the face of a beast who possesses superhuman physical abilities.
  • Sophie Turner is Jean Grey / Phoenix. She is a powerful mutant with the ability to read minds and has telekinetic powers.
  • Tye Sheridan is Scott Summers / Cyclops. He is a mutant whose eyes fire incredible laser beams.
  • Alexandra Shipp is Storm, a mutant who can control the weather
  • Jessica Chastain is Vuk, leader of D'Bari, alien shape-shifters.
All hell breaks loose after the X-men set out on a mission to space to save some humans trapped by a cosmic force. They succeeded in rescuing all the humans but Jean/Phoenix is caught in the middle of the cosmic explosion and her body takes in the entirety of the cosmic force. She becomes unstable and unable to control her sudden bursts of power, fire and energy and becomes a deadly threat to the Xavier's school and anyone who gets close to her, hence the name Dark Phoenix.

This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet -- one of their own.

Thanks for the alert. I have seen the preview of the movie, but I am not too excited about it. Don't know why, even though I have all previous X-Men movies. Cheers
