Hey movie marauders! Hugh Jackman reprised his role as Wolverine one last time in Logan. Logan marked Hugh Jackman's 8th time in an X-Men film. Logan got great reviews and was an emotional movie to watch. It got a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and made $618 million at the box office, proving that R-rated superhero movies do just as good or even better than PG-13 superhero films. It marked the end of an era in the right way. Let's take a look at some more reasons why Logan was such a good movie:

~Logan~

As we all know, Hugh Jackman was born to play Wolverine. In this Wolverine film, Logan was very beaten down emotionally and physically. Jackman played that side of Wolverine phenomenally. His performance was so raw and authentic, and it made me get into the movie even more. The scene where Logan gets re-energized from the serum was my favorite part of the movie. It showed how Logan is still a force to be reckoned with, and it was satisfying to watch an R-rated Wolverine fight scene. That scene was extremely emotional, and represented the internal conflicts that Logan goes through.

If you don't already know, Logan dies at the end of the film from his clone X-24. I didn't want to believe that Logan was really dead. He has been a vital part of the X-Men franchise, so it was extremely heartbreaking to see him go (and when X-23 turned his cross into an "X"). I thought Logan was written into this movie very well, and tied in with all of the other Wolverine films. I thought Logan was the best story and most emotional Wolverine film out of them all. It had a real end goal to finish in a way that would make fans satisfied, and show the effects of what Logan has been through.

~Professor X~

It was even sadder to see the deterioration of the beloved Professor X. He has been a mentor and leader to all the mutants, so his going crazy was terrible to watch. Patrick Stewart's performance was amazing, and truly showed the toll of what he has gone through in these X-Men movies. His death scene was truly horrible, especially because Logan's clone (X-24) is the one who killed him. When Logan showed up and saw what happened to Professor X, it was grueling to watch him say that it wasn't actually him that killed the Professor.

It was kind of obvious that something bad was going to happen at the family's farm, but I didn't expect Professor X and the entire family to get murdered. I loved the scene where Professor X's powers make everyone incapable of functioning, and Logan has to save him and X-23 from the bad guys. That scene was very cool to watch because it showed that Professor X is still very powerful, but also kind of rogue.

~X-23~

I thought Dafne Keen did a very good job playing X-23. She may not have had a lot of lines, but her actions spoke louder than her words. X-23's past is so sad, especially because she had to watch her father die and she was created by a crazy doctor (Dr. Rice). Her character just proves the ongoing battle between mutants and humans is still very much alive in 2029. X-23 provided both comedy and badass action.

I loved the scene where all the bad guys infiltrated where Logan was staying, and she defeated all of them. She is very underestimated even though her small stature is actually actually helps her in battle. It was funny to see her be the parent to Logan (especially when she drove the car when Logan was falling asleep at the wheel) and help him have a purpose in his life again. I think that X-23 was a great character addition to the roster of Wolverine films.

Plot

I liked how the plot was not too fast or too slow. I thought that it had just enough action sequences, and really took Logan to a whole new level. Watching the interactions between Logan and X-23 was amusing, and the relationship between Logan and Professor X is adorable. The movie ended the storyline of Wolverine in the right way. By the end of the movie, his character had a change of heart. This was satisfying to see because throughout the film he has a very negative attitude.

Seeing Logan being bested by his clone, X-24, also represented his inner demons. He was fighting against the version of himself that was morphed from all the events in the X-Men films. Logan was definitely an emotional rollercoaster to watch, and it didn't necessarily feel like a superhero film. It was nice to see a film that wasn't just about creating more superhero movies, but concluding a beloved character who has many inner demons/struggles. There was just one thing that had me raising my eyebrows. How did Gabriela (X-23's fake mother) edit a documentary about what was really happening at the hospital? Did no one question why she was filming everything? The little film she made also had voice overs and great audio!!! That was really the only thing that didn't make sense in the movie, but it is a very minor detail.

Conclusion

Logan was an excellent film, and I really enjoyed it. I loved the emotional aspect to it, the action, and the acting. It was a great conclusion to Wolverine's journey through the X-Men universe.
