In this post we will analyze the main character of the French film "Titane" by director Julia Ducournau and starring actress Agathe Rouselle, the first method of analysis will be the narrative, for this we have to put ourselves in context and know that this film is of body horror genre. If we explain the film, we can say that Alexia, is a serial killer who escapes from the police and through the modification of her physical appearance she pretends to be the son of a fireman who had been missing for ten years.
En este post se va a analizar al personaje protagónico de la película francesa “Titane” de la directora Julia Ducournau y protagonizado por la actriz Agathe Rouselle, el primer método de análisis será el narrativo, para esto tenemos que ponernos en contexto y saber que esta película es de género horror corporal. Si explicamos la película, se puede decir que Alexia, es una Asesina en series que escapa de la policía y a través de la modificación de su aspecto físico se hace pasar por el hijo de un bombero que tenía diez años desaparecidos.
Alexia as the main character, is the one who drives the story through her action, this can be seen from the first scene when she is in the car with her father, thanks to her is that the accident happens on the highway and because of that comes the placement of the titanium material in her skull. His actions are very determined, his pulse does not tremble at any time, until he adopts the position of Adrien (Son of the fireman). It is here when he begins to question every action he is going to perform.
Alexia como personaje protagónico, es la que impulsa el relato a través de su acción, esto se puede ver desde la primera escena cuando está dentro del auto con su papá, gracias a ella es que sucede el accidente en la autopista y motivo a eso viene la colocación del material de titanio en su cráneo. Sus acciones son muy decididas, no le tiembla el pulso en ningún momento, hasta que adopta la postura de Adrien (Hijo del bombero). Es aquí cuando empieza a poner en duda cada acción que va a realizar.
It can be said that Alexia is a rounded character, this makes her a complex and varied character, she has her own psychology. This causes a constant surprise with the people who watch the film, since they will never know how the character will react. An important detail of this rounded character is that the director shares a lot of information about her past with the viewer, but not with the other characters. From the beginning the protagonist is difficult to understand, she would not know how to justify each murder.
Se puede decir que Alexia es un personaje redondo, esto la hace un personaje complejo y variado, tiene una psicología propia. Lo que ocasiona una constante sorpresa con las personas que ven la película, ya que nunca sabrán como podrá reaccionar el personaje. Un detalle importante de este personaje redondo, es que la directora comparte bastante información de su pasado con el espectador, más no con los otros personajes. Desde un principio la protagonista es difícil de comprender, no sabría cómo justificar cada asesinato.
In the midst of the character's actions we can also see the psychological processes that have affected her life, such as the lack of bond she has with her father and how this leads her to make the decisions she chooses when she adopts Adrien's personality. If we take all this into account, this character can be defined as a psychological action character. If we analyze her past life, the film shows the strong relationship she had with her father and the complex and strange relationship that the whole family generated, despite this the family managed to stay together until she decides to leave.
En medio del accionar del personaje también se puede ver los procesos psicológicos que han afectado su vida, como lo es la falta de vínculo que tiene con su padre y como esto la lleva a tomar las decisiones que elige cuando adopta la personalidad de Adrien. Si tomamos en cuenta todo esto, este personaje se puede definir como de acción psicológica. Si analizamos su vida pasada, en la película se muestra la fuerte relación que tenía con su padre y la compleja y extraña relación que se generaba toda la familia, a pesar de esto la familia logro mantenerse unida hasta que ella decide irse.
Alexia is usually linked to other characters through seduction, in her position as Adrien she relates to others through the link she has with her father, demonstrating another ambiguity of the character. At the fiscal level Alexia is presented with a very exotic wardrobe, yellow and with little to cover, another detail to highlight is the scar that is always showing on her right ear. When she takes Adrien's pose, she is shown totally dark, she always tries to hide her body with costumes that cover all of her.
Alexia suele vincularse con otros personajes a través de la seducción, en su postura como Adrien se relaciona con los demás a través del vínculo que tiene con su padre, demostrando otra ambigüedad del personaje. A nivel fisco Alexia se presenta con un vestuario muy exótico, de color amarillo y de poco cubrir, otro detalle a resaltar es la cicatriz que siempre se está mostrando en su oreja derecha. Cuando toma la postura de Adrien, se muestra totalmente oscura, trata siempre de esconder su cuerpo con vestuarios que la cubren toda.
The ambiguity of this character makes her character and psychology is changing, as an example we can see the bodily affection that she allows herself with her father Fireman, unlike the beginning of the film where Alexie is very abrupt with physical contact. On the other hand; the physique and age are very important details for the analysis of a character, the wonderful thing about this film is that the protagonist manages to change her physique completely, but it must be made clear that these changes reach the character managing to adapt to different contexts.
La ambigüedad de este personaje hace que su carácter y psicología sea cambiante, como ejemplo podemos ver el afecto corporal que ella se permite con su padre Bombero, a diferencia del principio del filme donde Alexie es muy brusca con el contacto Físico. Por otro lado; el físico y la edad son detalles muy importantes para el análisis de un personaje, lo maravilloso de esta película es que la protagonista logra cambiar su físico por completo, pero hay que dejar claro, que estos cambios llegan al personaje logrando adaptarse a diferentes contextos.
In every place where the character is, he always keeps a job, in the representation of Alexia he is an exotic dancer, and as Adrien he has to work in a fire station. In his relationship with other people he is usually very serious, when he likes a colleague he seduces her, after a certain time he usually kills them. In the fire station he does not talk to any of his colleagues, the only communication link is with his firefighter father. At the family level, Alexia always seeks attention from her father and he always ignores her, like Adrien, at first she rejects the paternal love that he offers her, then she accepts the love that the firefighter offers her.
En cada lugar que se encuentra el personaje siempre se mantiene en una ocupación laboral, en la representación de Alexia es una bailarina exótica, y como Adrien le toca trabajar en una estación de bomberos. En su relación con las demás personas suele ser muy seria, cuando le gusta alguna compañera la seduce, después de un cierto tiempo suele asesinarlas. En la estación de bombero no habla con ninguno de sus compañeros, el único vínculo de comunicación es con su padre bombero. A nivel familiar, Alexia siempre busca la atención de su padre y este siempre la ignora, como Adrien, al principio rechaza el amor paterno que este le ofrece, luego ella acepta ese amor que el bombero le ofrece.
Seeking to detail the action she performs in her intimate life, Alexia seeks erotic and sexual interaction with cars, unlike when she is in Adrien's position. In her intimate spaces, she seeks to free her body in order to bring out the femininity that exists in her. Now, if we talk about her character, we can see that she is very strong when she does not approve of a person, but when she gains confidence she is usually very loving, but not for long.
Buscando de detallar la acción que realiza en su vida íntima, Alexia busca la interacción erótica y sexual con los automóviles, a diferencia cuando está bajo la postura de Adrien. En sus espacios íntimos, esta busca de liberar su cuerpo para así aflorar la feminidad que existe en ella. Ahora, si hablamos de su carácter, podemos ver qué es muy fuerte cuando ella no aprueba a una persona, pero cuando agarra confianza suele ser muy amorosa, pero no por mucho tiempo.
To demonstrate everything described above, the cinematographic narration that the director applied in the case of Alexia as a child is a blue set that speaks of a cold emotionality, but also presents us with a lower middle class family. When she is an adult, her makeup is very striking, combining her colors with the background lighting, working with yellow, green, violet and black. In the aspect of the framing, the shots to work are open, this is because the director is contextually placing the viewer with the character.
Para demostrar todo lo descrito anterior, la narración cinematográfica que aplico el director en el caso de Alexia cuando era niña es un decorado azul que habla de una emocionalidad fría, pero que también nos plantea una familia de clase media baja. Cuando es adulta el maquillaje que le colocan es muy llamativo, combina sus colores con la iluminación de fondo, se trabajan los colores amarillo, verde, violeta, negro. En el aspecto del encuadre, los planos a trabajar son abiertos, esto se debe a que el director está ubicando de forma contextual al espectador con el personaje.
In Adrien's pose, Alexia comes across as working class, taking into account that her dad is a fireman. Her make-up works with a very pale look, in contrast to her wardrobe, which is very opaque. The lighting is also very cold, with a bluish tone. The framing to work with was closed, a space where all her psychological process was detailed.
En la postura de Adrien, Alexia pasa a ser de clase obrera, tomando en cuenta que su papá es bombero. Su maquillaje lo trabajando con un aspecto muy pálido, en contraste con su vestuario que es muy opaco. La iluminación también es muy fría, de un tono azulado. Los encuadres a trabajar fueron cerrados, espacio donde se detalló todo su proceso psicológico.
The motivation and goal that we find in the character are not very clear, we discover them as the story progresses, it is at the end that we can understand the insatiable search for paternal love. On the other hand, the presentation of the character was very classic, it was shown in a fragmented way, let's say that the director was very careful in his presentation. Once the film begins to unfold, the role of the main character is shown is very active, through his action I know the story progresses.
La motivación y meta que encontramos en el personaje no son muy claras, las vamos descubriendo a medida que el relato avanza, es al final que podemos entender la insaciable búsqueda de amor paternal. Por otro lado, la presentación del personaje fue muy clásica, se mostró de forma fragmentada, digamos que el director cuido mucho su presentación. Una vez que la película empieza a desenvolverse, el rol del personaje protagónico se muestra es muy activo, a través de su acción sé el relato avanza.

El sujeto Actante es Alexia, quien desde pequeña logro llamar la atención de su padre con acciones drásticas, como un accidente de tránsito. Una vez que es adulta practica la misma forma de llamar la atención, solo que esta vez asesina personas y busca de llamar la atención de las autoridades.
When the authorities begin to look for her, her goal is to hide, for this she transforms her physical appearance and adopts the posture of a missing character who returns to her family. When she is left under the guardianship of the fireman, in this space Alexia always tries to hide her feminine identity despite the fact that she was pregnant, this manages to hurt her body to the point of dying in childbirth.
Cuando las autoridades comienzan a buscarla, su objetivo es esconderse, para esto transforma su apariencia física y adopta la postura de un personaje desaparecido que vuelve a su familia. Al quedar bajo la tutela del bombero, en este espacio Alexia trata de ocultar siempre su identidad femenina a pesar de que estaba embarazada, esto logra lastimar su cuerpo hasta el punto de morir en el parto.
