In a world where anime abound in all genres, we can say that first impressions count. Every time we sift through the different portals in search of something new and eye-catching, the covers or thumbnails become essential to catch users. An interesting and catchy name together with a well-crafted image can be key to get you to click and at least watch the first chapter. Of course, that does not determine everything, since at the end of the day the plot, the story and other aspects that catch our attention is what will make us stay to watch that anime until the end.
Now, “Wind breaker”, a shonen animated by CloverWorks studio, is one of those that from the first moment gave me a good impression. A name that arouses curiosity and hints that we will see freneticism and great emotions. I don't know about you, but before I saw the first chapter I imagined a shonen in which the characters would have powers related to the wind or the different elements, so I expected to see very well animated powers, with lightning, fire and other things in that style. Let's be honest, that's what the image below conveys.
In fact, the anime is about delinquent students who attend the Furin school in which only the strongest have a place, however, for some time now these students have been dedicated to protect the area in which they live, giving a big turnaround compared to what they used to represent. Thus, Haruka, a new boy in town who has always been despised for being different and as a result has a kind of resentment towards the majority, decides to enter the school with the intention of reaching the top.

As I said earlier, only the toughest fights take place in these schools which are normally attended by juvenile delinquents, but to Haruka's surprise this no longer happens at Furin School, so she has no choice but to quickly adapt to the new dynamic. However, the action comes quickly for Haruka who instantly becomes famous after defending a girl and a group of shopkeepers from some bullying hoodlums. Up to this point I will tell you spoilers, in fact, what I mention so far is only related to the first chapter.
Wind breaker is how the now protectors of the city are called and this name alludes to those elements of fabric or other materials that are found in the entrances or other spaces of the restaurants that are intended to cut the flow of wind that enters from the outside, so I guess they used this name as an analogy of a group that is responsible for nipping in the bud the external threats of the city, but through force.
Watching this anime I felt a kind of refreshment because, although it is true that there are many anime with stories of delinquent students and gangs, this one quickly scales in the personality of the protagonists and does not hesitate to develop without many twists the development of each one that, although it is true that they have a past like everyone, they do not get involved in lengthening those memories that at some point can be boring. The animation is quite fluid and the comedy is always present, but without overdoing it. The serious topics are dealt with in a correct way and in that sense they have left a very good impression on me.
WIND BREAKER | OFFICIAL TEASER
So far only 8 chapters have been aired, but they are enough for me to consider this one of the best anime of the year, in fact, I could say that I like it much more than Tokyo Revengers, an anime that has a similar theme, but with the difference that in the latter they are not students, but street gang members. And well, I feel that way since I detest protagonists who are weak and that's precisely what happens with Takemichi, while, on the other hand, Haruka is presented as a strong and determined character, although of course he's not quite perfect.
I say that Wind Breaker is a necessary anime because it rescues the best of the genre, it is not very deep, but it really does not have to be, I think the idea is that we can entertain us with a good dynamic between the characters and this anime knows how to do it. The fun and interesting personality of the main characters are an indispensable element for the development of the plot and I guess you will have good moments.
